AHOY
Yar! Lieutenant Colonel Jer Stryker reporting for Hornet Squadron on 11.26.2004, 2245Z, from Plunder IslandTM in the Caribbean. Every year at Thanksgiving (since last year) I make sure to go back and play a classic game or game series. This year it's the Monkey Island games. If you've never played them, they are probably the funniest games ever made.
GUYBRUSH'S STORY
We find our hero, Guybrush Threepwood, learning the art of swordplay from an instructor on Melee IslandTM. As everyone knows, any fool pirate can swing a pointy steel object around and hope to hit something. In the Caribbean, it's really all about how well you can outwit your opponent through insults and comebacks. Let's see if Guybrush is catching on....

Instructor: Ok, let's try one. You fight like a dairy farmer!
Guybrush: Oh yeah?
[instructor stops]
Instructor: *sigh* I can see this is going to take a while. An appropriate comeback to "you fight like a dairy farmer" would be something like "how appropriate, you fight like a cow." Now let's try another.
[swordfighting resumes]
Instructor: "Soon you'll be wearing my sword like a shish kebab!"
Guybrush: "How appropriate. You fight like a cow."
COMMANDER'S BRIEFING
- A lot of stuff happened this week, most of it good. I heard from all but 2 of our pilots, which is unprecedented. Granted, a couple of those contacts were just to request transfer to the Reserves, but I half-expected that. General Sickman, Lieutenant Commander Weeks, and Lieutenant Scorpio have transferred over to the Phoenix. At their peak they were each invaluable pilots. Here's hoping they'll be able to return to us soon.
- All of the current competitions listed below end early next
week. Most have very few entries, and all are pretty easy, so I'd
encourage each of you to do at least one of them, if you haven't
already. There's a good chance you'll get a medal.
- A little housekeeping matter: Most of you have very out of date uniforms on your profile. Please take a minute and fire up TTT (don't forget to update your patches) and update your uniform.
- I finally got one of you to try Free Worlds! I showed Draiff around the galaxy a bit in my YT-2000 (I also have a Tie Advanced) this week, and he was instantly hooked. He's submitted his IWATS and is currently waiting for authorization to play as an EH member. I've talked to a couple of you about this and you've mentioned your interest. You won't regret it. Welcome to the party, Draiff!
