STRYKER'S STORY
    Lieutenant Colonel Jer Stryker closed his eyes as the incoming flight of A-Wings opened fire.  It was all he could do, given the anti-nimbleness of the Toscan Fighter.  When he opened them, he found that he was still alive, and he even had 3% of his shields left.  He targeted a nearby A-Wing and turned to get a position.  With his shields and lasers on full recharge, it took him an entire 15 seconds to bring his fighter to bear on the enemy.  He then watched the A-Wing quickly become a spec as it zoomed away from him, looking for more exciting targets.  Jer looked at his speed readout and sighed...68 MGLT.  Whee.
    The good news was that he was flying too slow to be of any interest to the enemy fighters.  With great patience, Jer began to dispatch his enemies with well-aimed long-range deflection shots.  Eventually he and his allies defeated all of them, and the mission was won.
    When the combat simulator chamber opened, Jer found Commander noWedge standing outside with his trademark smirk on his face.
    "That was entertaining, sir," said noWedge.  "I can't believe you guys ever survived when you used to fly those crates.  Of course, I could fly circles around your T/A with an escape pod."
    "Well why don't you see if you can beat my score then, hot shot?" retorted Jer.
    "Meh, I can't be bothered."
    Jer sighed again.

COMMANDER'S BRIEFING

• That lovely story you just read was an adaptation of my experience with XWA-Free #57, which many of you told me you would fly for Justin's competition this week, but none have done so as of yet.  Remember, get it done by this weekend if you can.  If we get the most participation, we get Wing Commander's Own this month.  Send your .plt files to me and the Wing Commander.

• With LCM Weeks' imminent departure we will be in need of a new Flight Leader.  Let me know if you are interested in the position.  I require that all my FLs do some actual flying once in a while, not just report in on occasion and keep to the message boards.

• I have been given command of an Obelisk brigade in the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.  Basically it consists of playing the Jedi Knight series of games online.  Contact me if you are interested in joining.

• Congratulations to Weeks, noWedge, and Grimlock who received awards for their achievements in Top Dog.
