STRYKER'S STORY
The Tiger's Den was abuzz with activity. The commander of Hornet Squadron, Jer Stryker, sat with his brother Draiff and Matthew Weeks. They were each enjoying the free beers given to them by the new Wing Commander, Justin, for not revealing to the rest of the ship how badly they had each beaten him in combat exercises.
"So, how was Summer Patrol this week?" asked Draiff.
"Piece of cake," answered Matt. "Too bad you missed it."
"Yeah, I know," replied Draiff. "I was so close, then I had all these problems with the Dark Flame."
"Yeah I heard," said Weeks. "Good thing your brother here's a good mechanic and got you all fixed up though."
"Yup," said Draiff, "would have been nice if he could have done it a little sooner, so I wouldn't have missed out on the patrol."
"Hey," retorted Jer, "there's no way I was going to miss out on the patrol too. Can't wait for next week."
"I've already done it," proclaimed Weeks.
"Geez!" said the younger Stryker. "I guess when you make a comeback you don't kid around."
Just then there was a loud crash from the other end of the bar, along with a lot of laughter.
"Looks like Sickman's taking his comeback seriously too," mused Jer.
Rear Admiral Remlinger strolled into the cantina. Those who were sober enough snapped to attention. "At ease," said the Commodore. "Gentlemen. I have exciting news. The new offensive that Justin and I have been planning, Top Dog, will be starting this Sunday! This is going to be our biggest offensive of the year. I hope you're all up to it."
In an answer to Drax's call, the entire Tiger's Den erupted in cheers.
COMMANDER'S BRIEFING
- Great week Hornet! I've probably seen more activity from you guys this week than every other week combined since I came back from the Reserves. Keep it up!
- One big thing this week. Top Dog starts Sunday! It goes till the end of August. For easy reference, I have posted the rules here. Bookmark it. Memorize it. This is the biggest Vanguard-only competition of the year and absolutely everything you do counts for points. The squadron with the most points gets to carry the banner of Vanguard Top Dog for an entire YEAR! We have an excellent shot at this, with so many talented and dedicated pilots in the squad. Now is the time I've been telling you about. Now is the time to look your best!
- If you haven't done so yet, please fly XWA-Free #61 (it's only one mission) for the "Beat the Wing Commander" competition. The deadline is Saturday. The squadron that participates the most gets named Wing Commander's Own for July. We already have 3 participants (and 3 winners of an IS:BW) so that's a great start.
- Don't forget we still have a run-on going on in the message boards. There's a really great story there that needs finishing!
