SALUTE
Colonel Jer Stryker reporting for Hornet Squadron on 05.06.2005, 0100Z

STRYKER'S STORY
Colonel Jer Stryker sat at his desk, half staring at his datapad, half gazing at the stars outside his window.  He had been doing so for some time.  On the datapad was his "Official Emperor's Hammer Squadron Commander Tour Renewal Form," that he'd signed and turned in without a second thought so many times before.  He loved commanding his pilots.  He was proud to have the best ones on the Vanguard, and proud that he'd played at least some part in making them that way.  Today felt different, however.  He couldn't quite explain it, but somehow now he just felt that this was his time. . . to step down.  He'd done what he'd set out to do, and had reached a plateau.  Perhaps now, he thought, it was time for someone else to build on his legacy.
His feelings could not have been more mixed.  One the one hand, commanding Hornet had become second nature to Jer, and he could not imagine doing anything else.  On the other hand, the "good old days" of when his only responsibilites consisted of flying his fighter and killing rebels had been calling to him lately.  Reaching deep into his thoughts, Jer recalled something his father, a Corellian gambler, would always tell him, "quit while you're ahead."
Jer sighed, making his decision.  He punched the "delete" key on his datapad, and then the "new" key, as he began drafting a reassignment request to the Wing Commander.

THE "RL" VERSION
Some of you already knew this was coming.  To the others, yes, it's true.  This is my last day as Hornet's commanding officer.  In a fortunate turn of events in my life, my flight instructing job has started to pick up, a lot.  The past couple months I had to make quite an effort to get the bare minimum done that my EH position requires (reports, and some amount of activity).  Now, my workload has increased further, and I'm working up to 11 hours a day, six days a week.  So the pure and simple fact is, as has happened to everyone in the EH at one time or another, there is no more time.
Commanding this squadron has been my life and my joy for the past year.  To give an example of how into it I am, I've had a Hornet wallpaper on my cell phone, some of my RL friends call me Stryker, and my wife even got me a "Jer Stryker" coffee mug this past Christmas.  I've had so much fun in the EH leading you guys, and it would not have been this way without you.  Thank you all.
Oh, and I'm not really leaving, just stepping down as commander.  I'll continue to serve as a Flight Member in the squadron, and you'll still see me online and in Free Worlds.  I'm going to help whoever the next commander is, should they request it, and I'm going to continue to maintain the squadron website as well.  I'll see you all around.  Stay active and keep having fun.

SQUADRON COMMANDER'S BRIEFING
  • Until (and after) we get a new commander, everyone please make sure you stay active.  While it would be a flattering testament to my command abilities, I would hate it if the squadron faded out after I left.
  • Speaking of activity, LT Winter has been very busy, flying 5 battles this week!  He wins the coveted Pilot of the Week award on his second week here.  Congratulations!
  • Grimlock and I have put together a page dedicated to the history of Hornet Squadron.  Hopefully we can add to it as time goes on.  Go to the squadron website and check out the new history section!
  • No real big news from Free Worlds, which in my mind is good.  The server is your sandbox.  Go play.
  • In between, post to the run-on.
  • That's all folks!  Once again, to your fighters, Hornet Squadron!
EXECUTIVE OFFICER'S BRIEFING
Pilots,

Today is a sad day for Hornet, as Jer's XO it will be my last report, as well as his, but onto the news, the good news is that the Hornet History page is up. If you want to add to it let Jer know, the bad news is obvious. Also anyone who wants to be in the Squadron photo please send me a .jpg picture by the 20th of May or you will be substituted by an IMP pilot (Jer's note:  The only people who still need to submit their pictures are Draiff, Optimus, noWedge, and Winter). That's about it...so go fly.
