Praetorian Squadron Report #11, 02-27-2003

INTRODUCTION

“So, how are the tests proceeding, ObiVader?” Hunter asked. They were in his office at the lower rear of the Lichtor V, evaluating the tests that potential Prae pilots had been undergoing. So far the results were very promising, but the tests would only get harder.

“Very well,” replied ObiVader. “Each of the pilots seems to be doing quite well. We’d better not make any definite statements yet, since anything could happen at this point.”

“Right.” Hunter and ObiVader left his office and started walking towards the cantina for a drink. Along the way they ran into Phen.

“Those new recruits are some tough flyers,” he sighed. “It took me a full two minutes to blast them out of the sky instead of the usual 30 seconds.”

“As I recall, you never managed to destroy me when I went through the trials,” quipped ObiVader.

“You got lucky. I had just left sick bay barely 10 minutes before the simlulation,” countered Phen.

“Phen, you can take pride in the fact that after 5 minutes of solid dogfighting, you finally managed to blow up my TIE Interceptor with your A-wing, back when I was going through the trials” grinned Hunter. “Twas a long and hard fight, but in the end you prevailed and did your duty.”

“And the next match I blew you up in less than 30 seconds, Hunter,” replied Phennir. “That was a good day…”

“Yeah,” sighed Hunter. “Back when I joined Praetorian as a Lieutenant Commander…I never expected to get this far and end up commanding such a wonderful squadron. It’s too bad that it caused my social life to drop down to just 11 other people.”

“Yeah, being the Intel Division’s elite squadron certainly does have its benefits, but we really are isolated loners on this ship,” said ObiVader.

“It’s all for the best,” said Hunter. “They wanted the best and they got the best. And remember: We’re doing this for the whole Emperor’s Hammer. The Intelligence Division needs the best pilots and will accept nothing less. However, being in this particular elite squadron means that you do have to make some sacrifices. But the rewards, and the feeling you get, knowing that you can be relied upon to handle any assignment given to you…it’s just incredible.”

SQUADRON NEWS

· I decided to experiment with a new layout for the Praetorian Weekly Squadron Report…coments? Do you like it? Are there things that could be improved? Also, the current banner will be changed once our graphics creator gives it a few changes.

· I’m still setting up and organizing the warm-up exercises that the squadron will be going through. I’ve been really busy and haven’t had the time to get a solid game plan, but later this weekend I should release the details of the warm-ups.

· On a suggestion from MAJ Phennir, I entered the squadron into the Sovereign League Competition. Let’s show them pilots what it means to be elite! Oh yeah…and we have to face Omega in the competition, too. We can give ‘em a run for their money, no problem…right? ;)

· At the moment, there are 3 pilots who are going through the Praetorian Trials. We’ve still got 3 empty spaces left, so if you know anyone who’d like to join the squadron, let me know and I and the Recruitment Officer will see if they would be good for Praetorian.

2. Look around to see if there is anyone else who would like to join Praetorian. I’d like the squadron to have as close to full a roster as possible.
