Odin Run-On Fiction
Chapter 1
CPT Saar
Captain Drayson 'Silence' Saar eased back on the throttle as he slipped into position on the right of 'Loki', also known as Major Raxis Krieger, and their pair was on the wing of the 'Doom Falcon' and 'Dark Curse', otherwise known as LtCmdr Brain and LtCol DS. Way behind the lot of them came the six others. The group was intended to be able to tackle whatever the Rebs threw at them.

Silence used the trim control to lock his Loki's velocity to its current vector and performed a vertical and horizontal visual check of his surroundings. Engaging the NavLock he kicked hard with his left foot rapidly rolling the craft around its own axis, and a quick stab with his right foot stopped the roll exactly in the level position.

"Everything's clear," Silence declared, with about as much conviction as he had in the 'Good will always prevails over evil' theory.

"Silence, these Reb ships are painted black, right?" That was the voice of Doom Falcon

"Looks that way. Very dark, anyhow." Saar pulled up his breifing, he checked over the mission breif that was giving by Admiral Khadgar. Odin squadron was to go ahead of the Grey Wolf and clear the system of scout forces of the Reb Task Force in the system. Nothing too serious. A turkey shoot was the exact words Admiral Khadgar had used. Yah, sure. A Turkey shoot. What puzzled Saar was why the Rebs had painted all their craft black...

"Well, it's just that if the scanner's being jammed, which it will be. Because we are going in stealth we can only use passive and since the Rebs black... its just, you know, the thing about space is, well, your basic space colour is, well, black. You see what I'm getting at, Silence?"

The worst of it was, the Silence could see exactly what he was getting at. The Rebels were using a new kind of Scanner jammer. One that jammed the targeting computer. "Alright, fine, when we get back, you can get out the paint and paint all the squadron's TIE's black and gold, OK? Of course, you can try and ask the Rebs to paint themselves bright red as well, but you know, I'm not quite sure how they'd take that. Perhaps you'd like to invite them over for a beer and we can discuss it, along with why they want to kill all of us..?"

"Geez, I'm sorry I pointed it out! I mean, we're only all gonna die, hell, it's not like it's anything bloody important!" Doom Falcon sounded agitated.

"Yes, alright, Brain. I'm not very f*cking happy about it either, but b*tching about it doesn't help, so shut the hell up!" Silence was laughing as he tried to sound serious.

Suddenly red lasers sliced through the Odin finger-four. Silence though the blasts looked like some space giant had just sneezed as he executed a high 'G' barrel roll to the right through sheer instinct. Another blast hurtled up through the area of space he'd just vacated. Looking up through the canopy of his inverted TIE Advance he could see several flights of Z-95 Headhunter fighters sweeping up from their blind belly position.

"Bandits 5 O'clock low! Break Right!" Silence hollered the warning as another barrage of the strange fire tore through the flight. Loki's TIE was hit and visibly shuddered, but seemed to be intact.

"They're Alphabat soup! There must be a Reb cap-ship around nearby!" That was Dark Curse. He was indeed right, Saar spotted. Four Y-Wings, Four X-Wings, Three Z-95 Headhunters and Two A-Wings.

"Who cares what they are? Blow 'em away!" Loki shook his attacker.

"Yes, Loki!" Silence replied emphatically. Glancing over his shoulder to see that Curse had pulled onto his wing to cover him, he selected missiles and locked up the first Headhunter, but didn't launch, instead greeting his target with a moutfull of his full energy-well's worth of full lasers. It refused to pull out of the collision course, also blasting away with its own guns. Luckily the red laser bolts seemed to miss, and he was left playing chicken with Reb ship with a closure rate 120. Silence came out of course and yanked back on the stick. Unfortunately the Reb pilot had had the same idea and the two ships smashed heavily into one-another.

Having gritted his teeth and closed his eyes Silence was surprised to survive the impact, but it seemed only to have taken off a couple of layers of shields. Chopping the throttle to idle, Silence dropped behind the HeadHunter and gave it a few blasts of Quad laser blasts.

It suddenly shot away from him and as he firewalled the throttle Silence thumbed off the missile which streaked out to crash into the Z-95's aft section, removing its rear shields and some of its armour. However, from the almost dead-stop he'd been at, it had left him well behind, and out of guns range to finish it off. Suddenly he was aware that it had reversed and was now heading straight for him.

As the targeting reticle appeared over the fighter speeding toward him he fired a burst of lasers and then bunted the stick. The Reb flew over the top of him and he hauled the TIE around, viciously retarding the throttle so as not to overshoot: He'd been surprised at how fast the Reb decelerated the fist time, and had chopped the throttle to nothing too late, only to then be left trailing in its wake. This time as he came out of the turn where he expected it to be, he pushed the throttle to full military power . There it was, a perfect, slight deflection shot as the Reb clumsily tried to reverse into him. Silence raked it from stem to stern, showers of smoke, sparks and what looked almost like blood flew, but it stubbornly refused to explode.

"Silence, break left now!" As this warning was shouted, his missile warning klaxon also assaulted his senses. Punching out a couple of flares and breaking as hard to the left as he could he saw his attacker as it flashed by his right shoulder..Silence reversed hard into it, changed target and let fly a missile that he quickly followed up with a short burst of laser fire as he just about rammed it. The A-Wing vaporised with a surprisingly large explosion for its size. The TIE was jolted by the blast, but completely undamaged. "Splash one Reb! They ain't so tough!"

Next up was a Y-Wing that had got in behind him. He turned hard into it, narrowly missing a X-Wing that blasted past with a TIE Interceptor hard on its heels, and soon got in behind the Y-Wing. Although it couldn't get out from behind his gunsight its squirming was managing to put off his aim enough so that the high rate of fire of his lasers coupled with the Y-Wing's tough shields and armour meant that he was having little effect.

"Odin 2-1! Fox three!" Silence let loose another missile. The space between him and the Y-Wing suddenly turned almost pure blue as it spewed decoys while barrel-rolling first left and then right. He didn't know where his missile went; it certainly didn't track the Y-Wing. He was about to launch another when his TIE was hit heavily from behind. Breaking up and right while simultaneously rolling the craft hard to the right did as he'd hoped- hardly surprisingly his attacker couldn't follow the manuevre. It was another Y-Wing. As Silence rolled out of his dizzying spiral the Y-Wing behind started to line up on him again while the other that he'd originally been following turned back toward him, trapping him in the middle in a terrifying crossfire. Realising that they were probably flying as a pair with one dragging him for the other, he suddenly remembered his own wingmen.

"Get these bastards off me!" Silence pleaded while turning hard left. A X-Wing was now coming in from about his seven-thrity position, firing madly. How is it, he thought, that one minute there just seems to be you and your wingman, and then the next second the entire galaxy seems to be filled with bad-guys

He was in some deep sh*t...

Squadron News:
The biggest shock of all has come this week. Odin Squadron placed 1st in The Aggressor Strike Force Supremacy Competition. I am very proud of each and every one of you, we have all worked together hard to accomplish this goal. You're now allowed to display "ASF Escort Squadron - ASF:SCIII Champions" in your ID Lines. Great work guys! In addition witht his news, I would like to bring something to the squadrons attention. I dont think it will be a problem with you guys (you're a good bunch afterall :-)), I want to remind you, excessive bragging and gloating brings down the squadron. Be proud of what you have, dont rub it into anyones faces. On top of all this, I want to give a big congratulations to every pilot, wing commander and commodore in the ASF for there hard work durring this competition, you have all done a fine job. Special thanks to BGCOM Cyric for making it all possible.
Also, our Run-On fiction kicked off this report! I'll be writing the next chapter, then DS will follow! Keep watching for it guys!
EH NL #78 is out guys (even if it is a little late) #79 will follow very shortly!
I'm looking for a new Odin Banner. One that incorpates the new squadron colors, Black and Gold. Keep in mind, the size must be under 64kb and i prefer it to be in JPG or GIF Format. Give it a whirl guys!
Theres gonna be 3 AWOLs tonight guys...This takes the squadron down to 7 pilots. Start recruiting! Let's fill up the spots back to 12 very soon!
Squadron Status:
Regular Weekly Competition for XvT and XWA are held. Check the combat calendar for more information on these competitions. Flying in these competitions can bring in the medals. LoCs and DFCs are plentiful!
Still many many spots to fill in the squadron, if you know some people on Daedalus who will be an asset the squadron, don't hesitate to reccomend odin squadron to them.
Lets see if we can knock down the rest of the XvT Citations and start working on gaining the TIE's in order as best possible from 1 on :-)
Squadron Activity:

Final Thought this week...

Ok guys. our break is over :-) Time to get back to work. I can't scold you guys any, because I got lazy this week too :-P But I assure you, I'll be back pumping next week! I am still shocked by the ammount of activity we all pulled off in ASF:SCIII. Its great to see we have such great teamwork between us. Lets see how much of that team work can carry on through a normal month, without competion, and see how it all compares :-)
