Spear Report # 33 (2001-10-21)

This report was submitted by MAJ Krax Tarnisar

CMDR/MAJ Krax Tarnisar reporting in for Spear Squadron on October 14, 2001.

Fleet News
I’m not going to repeat it all here for you. Check out http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp. We’ve had some new commanders appointed, some new reports, and so on. Two newsletters have been released. All sorts of good stuff. Take a look. You might learn something.

Wing News
It’s been a busy week in the Wing. For those of you who were asleep or otherwise incapacitated, we no longer have a wing commander. COL Malaktos has stepped down, his place taken by RA Lohr Zadash while a replacement commander is chosen. COL Quake appeared briefly, and then transferred to the Colossus. There have also been a number of retirements, with COLs Scoser and Ricaud going to the Reserves. It’s starting to feel very much like the end of an era in Wing IX. Many of our veterans are leaving, and there are few new pilots to take their places.

Squadron News
Priority Alpha-One: Phase III of the BGC is on-going. This is the graphics competition, and ends October 29. Submitted graphics (flash movies, etc.) must be tied to Imperial Storm II. You know the drill here, people. It doesn’t have to be a work of art, but it needs to be entered. Flight Leaders, I’d like an update on your flights’ progress by the middle of the week. Excuses submitted after Phase III ends will NOT BE ACCEPTED!

Don’t forget to submit your weekly reports. This doesn’t have to be much; even a single e-mail letting me know you’re still in contact will suffice. We’ve been getting a little lax on this stuff, and I’d like that changed.

I’m looking at setting up some inter-squadron competitions as soon as the BGC is over. Does anyone have any suggestions about missions we could use? I’m asking because I don’t fly free missions all that much; I tend to prefer the battles. And I’ve found that the ratings don’t necessarily count for much. Sound off on the mailing list and make your opinions count.

Finally, I posted a recruiting notice on the Recruiting Center (on the TC Message Boards). Take a look, and add some chatter if you’d like. We really need to get the word out about Spear Squadron in particular and Wing IX in general. Flight Leaders, chime in here if you’d like.

Miscellaneous
Remember – don’t cheat!

The squadron nickname has officially been changed. That means that the banner competition is in full swing. The nickname translates to “Honorable Striker.” I’d like to see something that combines the nickname with the existing flight nicknames (if possible). The winning design (judged by myself and the flight leaders, with some outside help if things get close) will earn the artist a nice, shiny ISM as well as some good brownie points on the ATR (always good for promotion…).
