Hey Squadron Report #9 for December 30th 2001 through January 7th, 2002

Hey everyone, it's time for another Hey Squadron report. My first report of the new year, and I managed to get it out in an almost timely manner, too. Cool! As always we've got a bit to cover, so let's do it!

SQUADRON NEWS
---------------

Nothing too new to report. No new members or anything. I'm attempting to do a little mentoring and so is LT Maw'la, so hopefully between the two of us, we'll help out some cadets. If anyone else in Hey is attempting to mentor cadets, let me know. It's kinda nice to hear that sorta thing.

We have a battle to fly for the Mascot Power Battles competition. Fly TIE-TC #125 by midnight GMT of January 17th and send your pilot files to COL Reaper paul@reeves110.freeserve.co.uk and myself, so I know that you flew it. I know I'm beating a dead horse on this one, but it helps me to remember to fly for this.

I've been talking to Jahan about ways to get more activity in Hey Squadron, and he mentioned a CIT program. A Citation Officer (someone from Hey Squadron, Wing III or anyone) checks over the battle listings and sees which pilots need to fly that battle to earn the squadron a citation in that battle. We don't currently have enough pilots to have citations, I know, but once we get a couple more pilots, we'll have a bunch of citations again. Anyone interested in the position of Hey Squadron Citation Officer, please let me know.

WING NEWS

We're down by four pilots now, so we need to start recruiting new people for the TC and mentoring cadets on Daedalus. There's some good stuff in it for you as stated in Jahan's wing report.

Today the Prelude to Andevia competition starts. It is open to ALL members of the Emperor's Hammer, regardless of subgroup, rank or position. It features flying, design, fiction and other events. The competition website is available at http://www.imperialacademy.org/comps/prelude/.

Reminder about mission skipping

Skipping a mission is only tolerated in case of a fatal bug, which is extremely rare these days. If the procedure stated in the cheating policy is not followed, the BSF is simply cancelled without any notification (because the database doesn't support it yet). Actually, skipping a mission for any reason may be forbidden in a near future, if people keep ignoring the procedures.

Unknown Commands on IRC

We have been seeing a lot of people using unknown commands and scripts on IRC channels recently, some of which can be malicious to your IRC Client. These scripts work primarily on human operators running the scripts out of curiosity and infect the victims IRC Client. I would like to advise all members of the Emperor's Hammer that it is usually a very bad idea to run any script you do not know exactly what it does from the code as it can do damage to your client and also if malicious may well earn you a ban and HCI trial.
