Tempest Squadron Weekly Report

(2.24.2002)
Activity will be picking up again this next week with the wargame starting up. We'll also be flying some comps against other squadrons concurrently with the wargame, so keep those trigger fingers hot. Remember: If it's too hot in the kitchen, invest in air conditioning. ;-D

 Tempest Squadron Orders
This is it, the vacation's over. We're all geared up for the wargame. I've heard back from most of you about your intentions and you can expect feedback on that as soon as I can consolidate your replies and continue to confer with my fellow omnipotent military deity, Boliv. Most of the work we're doing for this week on the war game is out of the way, though, so this would be a perfect time to play some TIE. With that said, here are your orders:
  • Read through the wargame rules if you have not already done so... it's not important that you know all of 'em, but with you guys playing a roll in it, it's important to know generally what's happening.
  • Fly a battle. I'll be e-mailing out a 'Battle of the Week' shortly to make sure we're nice and warm for the wargame and the up comming comps.
  • Recruit. Our squad, and indeed our wing, needs everyone to dig deep and bring in some new tallent.
  • Do an IWATS course (or two, or three... ;-D). Not only will it add to the wealth of knowledge that you already have, but it'll add some length onto that ID line of yours.

 News

Fleet News

  • Following the resignation of CA:IO Risua Darkfire, a new CA:IO is being sought. If you've got what it takes, you too could get a nice CA position... but who wants that? ;-D Anyway, for more info, check out the posting on the TIE Corps news page.
  • New Tactical Office personnel are sought. If you want to be a TACA or Tactical database technician, check out the announcements in this past TAC report.
  • For the rest of the fleet news, check out the TIE Corps news page and the EH Domain.

    Wing News

  • The Challenge re-vitalization movement is in full gear now. Recruitment officers from each squad are working together to formulate a strategy for filling the Challenge. It should be noted, however, that recruitment is not limited to these recruitment officers, and if you see an opportunity to add a new face to the Challenge, take it. :-D
  • The wargame between Tornado, Thunder, Tempest, and Typhoon squadrons has started. The first move report is due in on Wednesday. Look alive. ;-D
  • Squadron News

  • Not much on this front since the competition last week. We're all set for the wargame and I'm waiting on a couple responses to competition challenges that I've sent out. More action is expected this comming week.
  • For his outstanding performance in this recent competition, Rover has been awarded the IS-BW! 'Grats Rover. :-D

And now, your moment of Zen...

The Ep. II Blues: Point & Counterpoint

So we've all heard about how Episode II is supposed to suck because it's going to be another costume fair for Amidala with mediocre acting on the part of Anikin and a love story being the focus of the film. In spite of this, I feel that it could have been far worse... Disney could have bought LucasFilm and given JarJar several songs throughout the movie, for example. But even if they featured JarJar, or managed to cram the movie with product placement for Coke and Blockbuster (ala Godzilla), there is surely one thing that would cause more people to boycot Episode II more than anything else: N'Sync.

Imagine, if you will, that you're in the theater, against your better judgement, and enjoying a mostly Jarjar-less show when all of a sudden dozens of teenage girls start screeching for no apparent reason. Upon closer examination I'm sure you'd be able to find an N'Sync-er or two on screen for each time this happened.

If this shows us anything, it's that the general public does, in fact, control pop culture to some degree, and George does, in fact, have common sense. Who knows... maybe he'll ask an unknown Star Wars fan like me to do something. In any case, I am glad that George didn't try to follow the route that allowed Titanic to claim the "Best Movie of All Time" status, just because a bunch bunch of teens went to see it 20 or more times just to see DiCaprio.

And that's the news that's all the news that's fit to print... along with most of the news that isn't.
