News
ASF SC 3 has arrived! Hurrah! More details in the competitions section.
Significant content has been added to our website this week. Really major changes are in the pipeline though! We'll keep you posted.
Valkyrie CMDR Hev Randrowan has retired. Sad to see him go. This does mean the position of Valkyrie CMDR is open, and applications are invited.
The pending BSFs have finally been done! Wahoo!

Poetry

I'm almost tempted to create my own poetry... but that could be disastrous. So here is something someone else wrote. I have purposely omitted the title... it makes it more interesting. :)

Angels are bright still, though the brightest fell.
But tell me, tell me, how do you know
he lost any of his brightness in the falling?
In the dark-blue depths, under layers and layers of darkness,
I see him move like the ruby, a gleam from within
of his own magnificence,
coming like the ruby in the invisible dark, glowing
with his own annunciation, towards us.

Record of the Week

This week I have gone with an album from an Austalian band. These guys have done well overseas aparrently, so maybe you've even heard of them.

The band is gerling and the album is children of telepathic experinces. It has been out for a couple of years now, but is still on my frequent play list. It's guitars, it's keyboards, it's electronic and it is awesome. Sometimes hyperactive, always rocking. Their fantastic singles 'death to the apple gerls' and 'enter, space capsule' rock my socks off, and other tracks like 'destructor 4000', 'ghost patrol' and 'craft werked' just make me want to leap around the room like an idiot.

If you like music that goes off, you'll love ths. So go get yourself a copy.

Competitions
Tartarus weekly (august) competition (APROVED!!!!)
It will be a weekly competition starting every friday of the month.
The battles that are counted for this one will be TC-TIE #25 - 50 and TC-XvT #11-15
Also fiction or graphics submissions as well as battle creation will be taken into consideration as following:
- each battle flown (no matter the number of missions) - 5 points
- fiction or graphics - 3 points
- battle creation - 5 points
The pilot who will get 25 points or more every week will get an IS-BW.

Here is the total points accrued in this compettion since it began:

Squadron Activity

We still have a number of people away, so things are still a little slow. This is probably the slowest week I have seen in recent history really. I am concerned that the two newest members of the Tartarus family have not bothered to contact me at all for the past two weeks. However, I know you will all be absolutely bursting with energy come ASF SC 3 though! It looks like all of us will be back from leave in early September, so we should shine very well then.

Final Thoughts

I can not say that I am totally satisfied with the level activity in this squadron at the moment. I do acknowledge that for the most part it is a temporary thing, and September will be a strong month for us.

To do well in the ASF:SC 3 we will have to be very strong. We will be going up against larger squadrons, and Multi-Player is worth a lot in this competition. It is not a traditional strong point for our squadron... so we shall have to make it one. To this end I think we need to set a benchmark for WoW participation. It needs to be something we can all agree to. It will be an issue for the commander next month to contend with. I see no reason why every songle pilot in the squadron cannot fly WoW matches in September.

In addition, the groundwork we have laid for citations will beed to be capitalised upon most enthusiastically, for these are easy points as well. This is something we are pretty good at. ;)
