Kappa Squadron Report - September 4th, 2001 - LC Astarosta

Squadron News

-Stalker vs Kappa has started!!! Pending TO approval, but on the run already, this comp will need a great highscore effort, and we have the appropiate time for it, so please submit the highest you get and try flying always on hard. More details on the Orders section

-Following last week's wild CoL party, we have a new party to make!! Yaah! CoB party!!!!!
Due to some "slightly" overlooked recommendations (:p) we had three awardees this week, so congrats to LCM Tim, LCM Tempest and LCM Dash Riprock!!

-The Wing II Pilot Arena has ended!!! As being announced on the TC meeting by our WC WonkyFord, ladies and gentlemen, the winner is...
LCM TEMPEST!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!
Praise the Tempest, Kappans!!! WOOOOO!!!!!!
By his amazing feats and efforts, Tempest earned a sweet shiny IS-SW, and our squadron will hold the title of Champions of the Ring until the next edition of the Arena.
Love the Tempest!!!!!! GOOOO KAPPA!!!!!!!
so, are we elite or what ;)

-Start being very very active, as a new monthly feature will be introduced to the squad as soon as I talk to the Frodman.

-CPT Algaron's Wing II Pilot League season 2 has started!! YAY!! With the qualifying round showing an impressive participation from Kappa, our own LCM Hermann has earned a very hardly fought place in Division 2, and the infamous match of Roasty vs Frod has ended with a lot food on the floor, a wounded butt cheek of an unnamed ASF pilot, a lawsuit over the custody of a wookie, and many many cases of over annoyement on the Wing II sickbay. Ah, and I'm fired as Kappa CMDR cause I SWEPT the floor with Frod's booty!!! YAY!!!! :p I will be taking the Division 1 spot.
Check out the Orders section for details on the first round, and remember that everyone may participate even if you didn't play the qualifying round. Go to the official comp site at: http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL/

-LC Stele Pelleaon is hosting Wing II's first multiplayer comp on #Airlock54. Wee!!!!. All XWA/XvT peeps go there and get some kills. More details on the Orders section.

-CM Hawkins seems to be in a highly creative streak as he comes up with new missions and battles all the time!! I haven't playtested it yet, but check out his latest free mission, which has an innovative racing format. Play it and give feedback to H!

-For you newbies, check this historical piece from our own CM H: http://freespace.virgin.net/dave.stainthorpe29/kappa/news.htm

-And finally, the biggest news of the week. As you may have heard, our long-serving FA Kramer stepped down from the Sovereign COM position. Being the man responsible for all the greatness of this ship and its wings, he will be really missed and he already got himself a place in history and our hearts. Kappa squadron, !!
As being announced on the TC meeting by the Flight Officer, the SSSD Sovereign has a new Commodore!! Congratulations go to former Wing V WC, RA Proton!!
Kappa is ready to follow your command, sir!!
Kappa Squadron, !!!

-This week's Ol' Roasty's word o' advice: "Introduce sisters, cousins, friends and any female you may find to your CMDR. A great future is ahead of you if you do. :p"

Squadron Orders

-Kappa vs Stalker is ON!!!!! Fly TC-TIE 34 (attached) and get some highscores!! Top 6 scores from each squad will be averaged and the top average wins. An IS-BW is at stake for the top scorer. Deadline is September 30th. The more inputs we have, the better chances we have. I expect 100% participation even if the score doesn't make it to the top 6. GOOOOO KAPPA!!!!!!!

-The Wing II Pilot League season 2 is ON!!!! First round uses FREE-TIE 56, fly it before Sunday Sept 9th 6 PM GMT, submit it to Algaron and CC me for the BSF.

-LC Stele Pelleaon's Wing II MP Night has been issued!! On Sept 6th from 5 PM to 7 PM GMT, head to #Airlock54 on the Undernet. Each win gives you a point, and if there are enough people playing, win the comp and get a shiny IS-SW!!

Miscellaneous

-Flight Office Report

This week's FO report has been released and can be found on http://www.tiecorps.org/reports/report.asp?reportid=3256&commandstaffid=4. It contains all the latest news from around Fleet, plus all the details on the recent spate of promotions and retirements.

-New battles' abbreviations...

I guess some will yell at me for changing the things they were used to, but battles, now sorted by platforms rather than subgroups, have new abbreviations, subgroups and platforms are swapped. For example Xwing Alliance TIE Corps Battles change from TC-XWA to XWA-TC. ID, BHG and CAB battles gain a "TIE-" addition to their abbreviation.
These measures are aimed to develop subgroup battles; the Tactical Office is not only the Tactical Office for the TIE Coprs, but for the entire Emperor's Hammer even if some subgroups have some active Subgroup's TAC-like office (well, only IW and maybe DB..).
These measures may seem useless and only bringing more confusion, but it makes more sense to classify battles per platform than subgroup, as a pilot would not choose the battles or missions he will play because it's a TC or a DB battle, but first because it is a TIE or an XWA battle. Remember that all pilots can play any battle, TC, IW, DB etc even if they are not members of these subgroups.

A thread on the Mission Creation Message Board has been posted for your comments.

-Training Office Assisant open

With the recent resignation of VA Mell, the position of Training Officer Assistant is now open. I've decided to merge the job requirements of TOA with those of TOA2. I've also slightly lowered the requirements in the hope of getting some decent applications. Full details are on http://www.imperialacademy.org/jobs.asp. And to hopefully save myself the grief of being harassed with silly questions, here's a short FAQ:

Q. Why not open CA:TO?
A. Because every time I do, I get a billion applications from the trash of the EH only interested in a quick rank promotion. I want people who will work because they want to.

Q. Why is it an assistant position? And can I keep my TC position?
A. Yes, you can keep your TC position. In fact, this is one of the reasons for it being an assistant position, so the TOA is someone active in the TC, who is closer to the members and what they think and want.

Q. I've heard about some apprenticeship system, where a TOA can eventually be offered CA:TO. Is this true?
A. Yes. The idea is that the person earns the rank and position that comes with being a CA through honest work, rather than knowing the right person.

Q. Can I camp online and harass you with more stupid questions on IRC/AIM/ICQ/email?
A. No. And if you do so, consider your application deleted.

-Battle listing: new sorting

Some changes in the battle center: battles and missions are now sorted by game platforms, rather than subroups. A little reminder, pilots are able to fly any battle, not only those from his subgroup; for example, a TIE Corps pilot can fly an Infiltrator Wing battle.

-Shameless Promotion Comp Results

The winners for the Shameless Promotion Competition have been selected. You can check out the winners and their entries at the competition site (http://www.imperialacademy.org/comps/shamelesspromotion/). Thanks to all who entered.

-TCCOM's Own

Well its that time of the month to announce TCCOM's Own. One wing has caught my eye as having very high activity and a great staff of officers. Congrats goes to Wing XX of the ISD Subjugator, TCCOM's Own for August!

-XWA Battles corrected

A little present for you XWA pilots... I have updated and cleaned the following XWA Battles:

TC-XWA Battle 1
TC-XWA Battle 2
TC-XWA Battle 3
TC-XWA Battle 4
TC-XWA Battle 5
TC-XWA Battle 6
TC-XWA Battle 7
TC-XWA Battle 9
IW-XWA Battle 23
Some little details have been added like enabling wingmen radio and so on... if any creator of these battles want something to be change, just tell me. IW23 has been fully updated to better standards...

-New released battles

All the battles and corrections announced in the last report of Fleet Admiral StarLion have been uploaded and added to the database...happy flying ! I would recommend you TC-XWA Battle 17 but you would say I have no shame, as I made it :P

-Daedalus Banner Competition

Following on from the Motto comp, we now have the Daedalus Banner Competition. This competition is about designing a new banner for the TIE Corp's training platform. Full details are available on http://www.imperialacademy.org/comps/daedalusbanner/default.htm.

-Reminder on mission skipping

Mission skipping is only allowed if a bug prevents you to complete a mission. It is strictly forbidden to skip a mission just in order to complete more easily the battle if no fatal bug is present in this mission. Even in XWA where skipping a mission is an ingame option, only use it in case of bugs. If you encounter a fatal bug and skip a mission, tell your CMDR when submitting the pilot file. CMDRs, please state then the mission has been skipped because of a bug; a bug report MUST also be filled by the pilot. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the BSF, the played battle being then removed from the pilot profile. The aim of this rule, part of the TC Cheating Policy since it exists, is to prevent people from gaining easy FCHG points in skipping missions without reason (FCHG points are awarded for the whole battle, even if you skipped a mission) whereas some pilots would take time to complete all missions. Fairness...:-)

-New battle submissions ban

The Tactical Office will not accept new free mission or battle submission until further notice. *Updated* versions from authors are accepted though. This decision is made for two reasons:

First, I need to make an audit of the Tactical Office to evaluate its current situation, following the resignations of both previous CAs, and to get a listing of the battles currently in the hands of the Tactical Staff
Secondly, new requirements are going to be set for submissions; you will need to pass the appropriate IWATS Course (TM,XTM,XAM) before being able to submit new missions, and you will have to send along with your battle/mission a pilot file to prove you did playtest it; little and painless requirements which should improve the efficiency of the Tactical Staff. The Tactical Manual is going to be updated as soon as possible.

-Sovereign Commodore resigns

After four years and an a month, Fleet Admiral Kramer has chosen to hang up his Sovereign Commodore uniform.

As FA Kramer writes:

I resign my position as Sovereign Commodore effective immediately.
That may have been the hardest thing I've ever had to write. I've been in charge of the Flagship for four years, and loved every minute of it. I've made some fantastic friends, seen some amazing things, and I thank all of you for the great times I've had. I still love the Sovereign and the Empire as much as I ever have, however my time constraints in "real life" are such that I can no longer devote the time to one of my favorite pastimes.

I would like to thank everyone who has meant something to me, but I'd forget somebody important and I just don't want to do that. Thank you all . . .

He'll be greatly missed. Kramer is a great friend to myself and was an excellent Commodore.

-New Tactical Officer

With the resignation of Fleet Admiral StarLion to be CA:TAC, Fleet Admiral Striker has returned to be the Tactical Officer once again!
