CMDR/MAJ Krax Tarnisar reporting in for Spear Squadron on September 23, 2001

It's been a very busy week-plus for me, and I apologize for the lateness of this report. I'll try to make up for it by keeping this short and sweet.

Wing News
Wing IX is deeply engaged in the latest Battlegroup Flagship competition. Phase I ended on the 20th, and all squadrons are awaiting the start of Phase II. Hammer Squadron is in need of a new commander, and overall our numbers are down again. Nothing new for Wing IX, where quality is valued over quantity.

Squadron News
Priority Alpha-One: The Battlegroup Flagship competition has begun. Phase I ended on the 20th, and I was very disappointed in the squadron's performance. People - if I can come up with a submission in the middle of my National Guard unit being activated, I expect each of you to do the same. Kudos go out to Commander Ironfist and Lieutenant Owen, who did their duty for the squadron and the wing. For those of you who aren't planning on participating in the rest of the competition, do yourselves a favor and request a posting to the Reserves now. We need 100% participation, and if you can't do it you're hurting us all. I expect my Flight Leaders to set an example here.

This competition is about something more than just winning. It's about Wing IX and the Relentless showing pride. The Fighting Ninth is a proud wing, honed to a sharp edge by a succession of skilled commanders and, more importantly, dedicated pilots. We have a tradition to uphold. Now, if you find that you don't have the time to do that (because of school, real life issues, or anything else), just ask to be posted to the Reserves. There's no shame in that. You can always come back to Spear once your schedule has cleared. I'd rather shift pilots to the Reserves and welcome them back later than have someone who isn't going to be active riding the roster and dragging the squadron's performance down. Now's the time to step forward and be counted or step back and make room for others.

Our numbers are down again, with LCM Dobush requesting a posting to the Reserves due to RL commitments. I don't like to see the squadron shrinking again, but it's understandable with the start of school for many of you.

Remember - don't cheat!

I didn't get self-evaluations from all of you. That's not good. I need to know how you think you've been doing in the squadron. And I don't want to hear any more complaining about weekly check-ins. In the time it takes you to send a whining e-mail, you could have done your check-in. If you think one e-mail a week is excessive work, maybe you should look long and hard at your motives for being here.

Is your contact information correct? Look over the roster and make sure that your e-mail address is the same as the one listed. If not, let me know ASAP.
