Fleet News
We have a new commode…I mean commodore. Our very own Ricaud has been kicked upstairs to Rear Admiral and given the Relentless. About damned time! In any case, we also now have an opening for wing commander. The SO resigned. Some new battles came out. The new database lumbers towards completion. In other words, nothing exciting going on in the fleet. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
With Ricaud’s promotion, we are left without a wing commander. Ricaud posted some interesting requirements for the position on the TC News, as well as to the Wing IX group. His will be a hard act to follow. The other Wing IX squadrons continue their normal activities, with a competition here and there. The new commanders are settling into their jobs well.

Squadron News
After getting our collective butts kicked by the IW, we plunged right into a competition with Inferno Squadron. The battle is TC138, and the final date for .tfrs is the 30th. So far only LCM Ironfist has submitted one (flew it twice, no less). I do hope that our turnout is better than what we had against the IW. Inferno is one of the top squadrons in Wing X, and it would do our wing proud if we could defeat them.

LT Pirat has rejoined us from the Reserves. Hopefully his stay with Spear will be long and fruitful. His posting to Flight 2 leaves Flight 3 empty, which is how it will remain for the time being. A reminder to us all that we need to do some recruiting. Look for a posting either today or tomorrow in the Recruiting forum for Spear Squadron.

Just a reminder that the Spear Squadron Writers’ Group stands ready to provide feedback for your fiction. So far your loveable CO is the only one who’s had a story in the Dark Sentinel. I’d like to see each writer in Spear have a story ready for the next issue. Owen, I know you and Ironfist are both capable writers. Let’s see if we can put something together. There’s been talk on the message board about an EH novel. Maybe we can get a jump on them and come out with some good stuff relating to Spear and the Relentless.

Miscellaneous
We need some ideas for future squadron activities. One thing I’m considering is going in with one of our fellow squadrons (Shield, for example) and challenging two other squadrons in another wing. This gives us a little more variety as well as a shot at the silver-grade wings (and ribbons for those non-flying competitions).

It’s been suggested (by LCM Ironfist) that we need a Tactical Officer. I’m in full agreement with this, and am looking for volunteers. Basically this officer would put together ‘walk-through’ notes for competition missions. The Tac Officer position could also be used to test squadron battles and/or missions before submitting them to the fleet Tac Office. If you’re interested, let me know.

Our next competition is in the planning stages. No date has been set as yet, but we’re looking at a four-squadron affair. Two squadrons from Wing IX taking on two from another wing (most likely Wing X at the moment). So far there’s been nothing decided about activities. What would you like to see? For one, I get tired of flying the same mission over and over aiming for a high score. Let’s see if we can put something a bit different together.
