<salute>

Greetings, you have made me very proud everyone! Lots of activity this month. Lots of us have shown up at MP events and we even got back a squadron citation. We're on our way back to our greatness under Echo's old commander. Iwats courses were completed as well and a few promotions as well. Great work everyone and I hope the next week is even better.

Star Wars Quake SDK released
06:31 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
In a 40 mb chunk, you can download the code, maps, and documentation for Star Wars Quake from their website's files section at: http://swtc.telefragged.com/files.html

This is pretty much for anyone who wants to attempt to continue where the previous team left off.

Battle for Naboo review
02:20 - HA Astatine [jpboyce@indigo.net.au]
Well, the Australian games magazine PC Powerplay has a review for Battle for Naboo (BFN) in this month's issue. For those who don't know, BFN was written by Factor 5, a company who have inflicted upon us such great titles as Rogue Squadron. BFN follows the same basic premise (ie. it sucks on the PC) and indeed, it even appears to use the same engine as Rogue Squadron, looking decidedly dated against high-texture fun provide by..well..just about every other game on the market. The review opens with "This is an awful piece of rubbish" and goes on a similar strain, including classic commentary such as "It's a derivative, awkward, dull, ugly action title that should never have seen the light of day" and "I haven't seen anything as dog-ugly as BFN for many years". In the ending paragraph, the reviewer tells us "We know LucasArts is having a rough go of it, reforming after major staff changes but this standard of game is unacceptable. So LucasArts, when you remember how to make games again, let us know." Overall, the game was summarised with "Abysmal, boring, soulless charade of a game" and a outstanding rating of 25%. You have been warned. :P

Star Wars: Galatic Battleground
01:58 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
Admiral Theodore writes:

LA has posted some news on their upcoming Winter 2001 release of Galactic Battleground. The game is based upon the RTS engine adapted from Age of Empires. There will be a scenario editor to create custom single- or multiplayer battlegrounds with virtually any Star Wars units and settings. The webpage is at http://www.lucasarts.com/e3/one/ and includes screen shots.

PC Gamer magazine's June 2001 issue has a detailed cover story (six pages) on the new game with shots. They report the game is about 40% complete.

Wing XIII Commander found
01:52 - VA Cyric [jroscoe@bellatlantic.net]
RA Woobee of the ISD Greywolf has found a new Wing Commander for Wing XIII. Please congratulate MAJ Azazel formerly Phoenix CM of Wing XIII. I know he has big shoes to fill since LC Bruckmack left, but he is more than capable of the job. And what of LC Bruckmack you ask? He has accepted a position with the ASF elite squadron Avenger! Good luck to both of them. RA Woobee and MAJ Azazel is now accepting apps for Phoenix Squadron.

Subgroup homepages
23:23 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
Something that I noticed was that NL #71's subgroup links weren't working anymore. That has been fixed. If you want to see a subgroup's page, just go to the subgroup's abbreviation and add .subgroup.tiecorps.org and you'll see their homepage.

For example, the Dark Brotherhood (DB) site is at: http://db.subgroup.tiecorps.org

New game platform
20:07 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
On your personal profiles, you can now have "Counter-Strike" as one of your game platforms. To edit your profile, you must be a Sub-Lieutenant (or higher) and use the administration section.

Episode II: The College Years
15:04 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
Here's a little bit of screwed up Star Wars humor for everyone presented by the good people at Newgrounds. It's an excellent Flash animation that's worth the download time.

Warning: For mature audiences only.

04:37 - HA Astatine [jpboyce@indigo.net.au]
The XvT Tactics course is now online. You can check it out at http://www.imperialacademy.org/xvttactics/. The course professor is MAJ Tarkin.

Executive Order #0003
22:02 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
From kawolski.com:

Until the TIE Corps section of the EH Database is complete, name changes for any pilot that isn't a Cadet must be approved by the Executive Officer. Send name change requests to the Executive Officer (absurefire@aol.com) and CC the Flight Officer (spellfire@btinternet.com) along with a detailed explanation as to why you want to change your name.

XWA WoWs
13:06 - AD Havoc [Pellaeon2000@cs.com]
A notice to all XWA M-players out there. XWA WoWs started today, so start flying!

Wing IX WC open to applications
10:23 - FA Priyum Patel [spellfire@btinternet.com]
This from Rear Admiral Ricaud, recently promoted to RelCOM:

With the appointment of a new Commodore of the ISD Relentless, it is now necessary for an equally-new Commanding Officer of Wing IX to be found. Effective immediately, the post is open to any and all interest individuals in the TIE Corps at the rank of Commander or higher, and with previous experience as a squadron leader. However, this will be no normal application procedure. Because the "Fighting Ninth" is an exceptional wing, recently winning the titles of TIE Corps Commander's Own and TIE Corps Battlegroups Flagship within the space of a month, it deserves an exceptional commander.

Thus, this appointment will not be decided purely or even largely on past experience, but ability. All candidates for the position of Wing IX Commander should write a short essay, with a minimum of 750 words, on the topic of "the nature of power within the TIE Corps" with particular reference to the post of Wing Commander. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of where an officer's authority derives from, the limit to this, interrelational requirements with other positions with regards to WC, and how the efficient legitimacy of a command is established and maintained.

If it sounds confusing, you probably shouldn't think about applying. There is no right or wrong answer, all that I want to hear are your own theories of basically where a Wing Commander's power lies, how they maintain it, and how they should exercise and use it. The more intelligently and eloquently a discussion on the subject you can write, the better your chances.

All applications should be e-mailed to val.ricaud@btinternet.com and CC:ed to jarak@stny.rr.com. You may also send any questions concerning the application procedure and what is expected to the former of these addresses, or catch up with me on IRC as Ricaud in channels #Emperor's_Hammer, #TIECorps, or #ISD_Relentless. However, do please send formal applications in soon!

TIE Tactics info
10:05 - LC Ford Prefect [Karrde23@aol.com]
In correlation to VA Fondor's recent news post, Ford is indeed the current TIE Tactics professor. However, he's been receiving a trickle of old tests via e-mail. Old tests and pilot files are NOT being accepted! For over a month, a new test has been re-instated in place of the old exam and requisite battle; if you wish to pass the TIE Tactics course, please read over the new course notes and take the new on-l
ine exam, all located at http://www.imperialacademy.org/tietactics.

SCO resigns
08:22 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
Our Science Officer, Fleet Admiral Kermee, is stepping down from his position, but he says he will be staying behind long enough at least to assist the new Science Officer in getting started. Requirements for applying to this position will be posted shortly.

Wing News:

Since I have most of the info in my report, I have pasted a link to our beloved WC's report :)

http://www.tiecorps.org/reports/report.asp?wingid=15&reportid=2014

I have also started a training program in IRC in the Undernet on #Vanguard every Thursday from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm EST

Squadron News:

Yes, our numbers have stayed the same, despite the addition of LT Kessap to the squad. We had to let go LT Gabriel for lack of activity and communication. Hopefully we have finished the weeding process...

Welcome to Echo LT Kessap. If you have any problems down-loading missions, finding winzip and mirc and how to connect to them. Don't hesitate to ask anyone in the squadron for help.

This week we have seen the promotion of LT Blair Vallyn and the completion of Iwats course GFX as well. Great work! Also 2 battles were completed as well (from LT Da'Ger and Blair) which brought the return of our first squadron citation.

You are all making me proud! On a side note, I also got an IS-BW for my placement in the EH_Ladder and CM Schitzo was promoted from LCM and LT Blair Vallyn was promoted from SL. Great work!

As form submitting battles, it would make it easier if you told me the battle name in the subject part of the E-mail...like TC-XWA #1 for example woud be the subject if you completed the Avenger Encounter in TC-XWA #1

I have also reset the points for the month of May...lets see who gets the most activity this month!
