Aleth Report # 10 (2001-06-05)

This report was submitted by MAJ Jahan Kalar

Greetings and welcome to another edition of the Aleth Squadron report. As I said earlier this week, it's been a big last couple of weeks for me, in real life at least. Today is in fact my real life birthday, and I am now 18 (as some of you may already know). That means, among other things, that I can test for my pilot's license (but not in a TIE Defender, unfortunitly), and skydive, something I've been wanting to do for a while now. Tomorrow is also the day that I graduate from high school and take a big step into the "real" world. But, back to the more immediate things for a moment, the squadron report.

Orders
Fly Aleth Competition Round #4. The battle is TC-XWA #3 and it is due by June 9th. I've only received a couple of submission so far, so I'm hoping that submission will pick up in these last few days.
Get ready for the Aleth Squadron Role Playing Game, I'll be sending out the first section soon (read more below).
Attend Wing III meetings if you can on Sundays at 1pm EST, 6pm GMT and 12pm CST.
Fly battles to improve our citations.
Recruit! Pilots are becoming scarce, and it's been a long time since we've had a SL to pick on.
Aleth Squadron Role Playing Game
I've received seperate suggestions from several pilots regarding a role playing type idea, but Lieutenant Stirner was the first one who came to me with a firm idea, and I took his idea and added in a few other elements, and here is the product. LT Stirner origionally came to me with this idea because he felt (and I agreed) that the personas of the various pilots in Aleth Squadron were flat and lifeless, and he had an idea to fix that. He suggested a "play by mail" story where the narrator would write part of a story and then the pilots would e-mail the writer with their characters actions so the narrator could write the next part of the story, and so on. I liked the idea, and after he made a few changes to it, I'm now ready to present it to you all. So, here's the basic idea, to be changes as needed as we go.
The Aleth Squadron Role Playing Game will be an ongoing story, written (narrated) by me (although that may later change), but with your input. I'll write a section of the story, then send it to each of you asking what you would do next. I will then take all of your input and write the next section of the story, but with the actions you specified in your e-mails. This will help to flesh out your TC characters.
News
Major Kalar won the website competition and was awarded an IS-SR for his effort. Expect to see more web updates when the page becomes official.
LT Stirner won the 1st round of the Sov Top Gun, and was the high scorer in Wing III as well. He will be going on to compete in round #2 representing Aleth Squadron at the Wing level. Beth Squadron's pilot will be CPT Cal Sinis, Daleth Squadron has LCM Dark Angel and Hey Squadron is represented by MAJ Osan'gar. Wing III also had the distinction of having the highest number of entries even though we are the smallest Wing on the Sov.
LC Daniel Kamprath has decided to retire as Commander of Daleth Squadron after a long service to Wing III and Daleth. He'll be missed.

Movie Quote Trivia
Last week's trivia was guessed correctly by Commander Loor as from the movie Armageddon. This week I'm changing the policy, I only want the answers sent to me, so everyone else can puzzle over it all week, at least you'll be thinking :) Here's this weeks quote, if you know the answer, let me know!
"If you're trying to sound like it just comes off like a swindle. I mean, it's not your fault. They say talent skips a generation, so I'm sure your kids will be sharp as tacks."
Words of Wisdom
"And fool can just complain about a problem, and most fools do."
That's all for now...until next time, shoot straight and faster than they do!
