The Platform Daedalus roster has had a small addition to it. A cadet's activity date is now shown on the end of each name. The newest cadets' dates are highlighted in white and cadets whose dates reach older than 60 days are removed from the roster.

This is to encourage a better targetted recruitment to keep cadets who have just joined from being ignored while cadets who are at the 59-day mark from being swamped with recruitment notices. Be warned! Spamming the list daily will not be tolerated!

Finally, after 2 long months of waiting, the new EH Visual Arts Gallery (VAG) has gone live. The EH VAG will replace the site which was formerly run by VA Blazer, called the "Fan Image Archive" at http://thor.prohosting.com/~blazer21. The new EH VAG features a similar layout to the EH Picture Archive, but has a much better search system, 3 different categories of images, and has been more efficiently coded. You can view the new site at http://www.ehnet.org/vag.

As you can tell, I need more pictures, and banners to be submitted to be posted on the gallery. There is also a section for screenshots in the gallery, but i will be really selective about this section. Only the screenshots which are "special" in some way, will ever make it into the gallery section for screenshots. Please send your submissions for the EH VAG to absolute@squadron.org.

FO Declaration On Clones

As was said in the TIE Corps meeting last Sunday (August 20th), the Flight Officer, Admiral Sarriss, has declared that anyone in the TIE Corps mainstream (Sov, BG, and ASF) is permitted to have a persona in the Fleet Naval Corps (if they so desire and provided that they do the work of both). Similarly, anyone in the Fleet Naval Corps is permitted to have an alternate persona in the TIE Corps mainstream. Two personas in either the Fleet Naval Corps or TIE Corps mainstream are *NOT* permitted, however. If you DO have a clone in the TC and NC, e-mail me at seraphiel@uswest.net ASAP and tell me your two clones' names. I've been approving people with the same e-mails... if you can get a seperate e-mail, that's great. If you ARE cloning, please say so in the recruitment form under "comments" or whatever. Please include your clones NAME and PIN#.

19 August, 2000 10:45
8 ABY
Despite a staggering amount of revisions and restructurings, the Imperial Survey Corps (ISC) is well on the way to completion! The ISC's two divisions, the Delegation and the Prospectus, now have Division Commanders. They are LT Jasper Medeel and LC Mell respectively. A preliminary manual detailing the duties and activities of the ISC can be found at http://reconoffice.dhs.org/isc.asp.

Also, the ISC will soon be opened to general membership. Beginning Monday, August 21st, applications for membership will be taken by VA Draye C. Maaric and CPT Jahan Kalar. Kalar, the ROA, is slated to be the ISC's executive officer, so to speak. Here is what we would like you to include in your application:

- Your full ID Line, of any and all current Subgroups
- What division of the ISC you'd like to join (check the ISC Manual), if you have a preference.
- Your EH career history, as detailed as you can make it
- Why you'd like to join the Imperial Survey Corps
- Anything else you think CPT Kalar and myself should know.

Please keep in mind that the number of open positions within the ISC is extremely limited, as there will only be 10 members in each division when the ISC first opens. However, membership will not be based on a first come, first serve basis. Those people with the most desirable applications will be admitted. Thank you and please continue to support the Imperial Survey Corps!

8 ABY
Many people have asked me questions about my news post about nVidia video cards and X-Wing Alliance that instead of responding to the e-mails, I'll make another news post about it. It seems that with the GeForce series, the performance hit in XWA isn't as bad as it is with the TNT or TNT2. The cause of the problem is that the latest nVidia drivers are not completely compatible with XWA. LucasArts, in their infinite wisdom, has offered this solution: Don't upgrade your drivers. Apparently it's too much work for them to make another patch for their game (they must've been too busy making Force Commander *gag* :P). I find it disappointing that my 64mb GeForce2 video card puts out a lower frame rate than that of a Voodoo II card in that game.

In regards to the recently released fan-made Rebel Fighter Upgrade patch, it WILL run on a GeForce. I noticed no additional loss in frame rate from what is already a sluggish game.

Sir Alec Guinness dies at 86

LT Jorg Silsti

07 August, 2000 05:37
8 ABY
When many hear this name, they say, 'Oh.. the old guy that played Obi Wan Kenobi.' For that is what most people remember him as.

His first role dates back to Evensong in 1934, where he was an uncredited extra, playing a soldier in a concert audience. His next film would be in 1946 in the Charles Dickens' tale of Great Expectations. But perhaps his most famous starring role beyond the Star Wars Trilogy, was the 1957 classic 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' in which he played a British Colonel in a Japanese POW Camp. He won an Oscar for that role. In 1949, classic comedy, 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' where he gained recognition as the man of a thousand faces after playing Eight characters in the film.

Sir Alec Guinness (April 2, 1914 - August 6, 2000) will be deeply missed, but his legacy will forever remain on film.

The "Fleet Commander's Own" award will also be given to a ship on August 21st. Grand Admiral Ronin has asked High Admiral Kawolski to select the ship deserving of this award.

Do NOT send recommendations on behalf of your ship at this time (though it may be a good idea to prepare one for when they are being accepted). Details are coming soon, and in the meantime, Commodores had better start tidying things up for inspection (if they need to, of course)!

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance - You can make .WAV files of good quality with a regular microphone and Cool Edit 2000 or Cool Edit Pro. Record the sample at the Tactical Office standard of 11hz, 8-bit, mono. If the speech is too soft, re-record it with the mic input set at a higher level or use Transform->Amplitude->Amplify. Cut out the silent pauses before and after the speech to save space. Finally, to get that in-flight radio effect, go to Transform->Filters->FFT Filter. Click the "Get Off the Phone!" preset and click "OK." Your voice file will sound like something from the original game!

Due to security hole in the Mailman software which I use, I have been forced to take down the IO mailing list services hosted on my server temporarily. The bug could be used to "sploit" my system, and i'm sure you people wouldn't want that... :-)

Please try to withold any mail destined for mailing lists hosted on my server for a few hours. Regular email accounts are unaffected by this.

As e-mailed by High Admiral Phoen|x Berkana of the Star Vipers:

This Saturday (the 5th of August) Division Stormwind will be hosting its anniversary bash. To commemorate the event we intend to hold a gaming session lasting from 11am EST to 10pm EST on our IRC server (details lower down.) It is our hope that you, and several other clubs will be able to attend the event, allowing us to hold a free for all.

The Details:

11am - Opening ceremony, initial chat, some games.
11:15 - 9:00pm - Multi player melee's : XvT, XWA, JK, TIE
10:00pm - Closing ceremony. Winners will be announced. Both in terms of organisation and player per game.

How it works:

Each game will be run in a separate channel - #XvT, #XWA, #JK, #TIE

Within each channel, there will be one moderator. The players returning from a match need to message the moderator stating who won, and the score. The moderator will be the final judge on conflicting reports of a mission. If your pilots feel they need to take a screen shot of the battle then these will be accepted as proof of a win.

For TIE Fighter, pilots can download missions from our archives and fly against each other. The scores should then be submitted as stated above.

Info: http://flashpoint.fasthost.net/stormwind/anni/index.php3

On the IRC server:

Server name : flashpoint.fasthost.net
Port : 6667
Main channels : #CSF and #Stormwind
Fleet Commanders will be given +o status.

Scores will be tracked by the SQL/PHP3 scoreboard custom developed by AD Starwolf. Exact details regarding the scoring system and it's usage will only be released 24 hours prior to the launch of the event. All moderators will be briefed then regarding its use. Each moderator will have access to the addscores section.

Please pass this on to your club, we would very much like to have both you, and your members turn out for what we hope will be a good day of gaming!

Clubs Invited:

Emperors Hammer (EH), Rebel Squadrons (RS), Intruder Wing (IW), Society of Shadows (SoH), Imperial Order(IO) and the Galatic Powers League (GP).

Naval Corps XWA Melee Night Results

VA Shawshank

03 August, 2000 02:50
8 ABY
As some of you know, the first capital ship-based melee night of the Naval Corps was run this past Sunday. Attendance was not incredibly high, but wasn't too bad considering the many conflicts with some NC officers. The winners were:

1st:  LCM Rand al'Thor (TF Monitor) - 5 Merit Points.
2nd:  LCM Roggran (TF Crusader) - 3 Merit Points.
3rd (tied):  SL Argos Staneth (TF Claw) - 1 Merit Point.
3rd (tied):  MAJ Marcus Porcius Cato (TF Crusader) - 1 Merit Point.

Thanks to all who came... We'd like to get it approved for LoCs in the future to try and entice some of you MP pilots to take us on! After all, we just pilot multi-lasered hulls of metal :)

ID-Line Changes/Position Changes

VA Shawshank

03 August, 2000 02:42
8 ABY
All Naval Corps officers- By order of the Flight Officer, the following changes are made: Acronym Changes
  • CTF is now known as TFC
  • CTU is now known as TUC
  • Position Changes
  • The position of CAPT-C is hereby removed as a distinct position. Anyone holding the captain's spot on a task force's Victory-class Star Destroyer is simply a TUC.
  • The position of CAPT-F is hereby removed as a distinct position. Anyone holding the captain's spot on a task force's Assault Frigate is simply a CAPT.
  • With these changes comes the removal of the Cruiser and Frigate Squadrons. If you are a TUC or CAPT please note this change in your ID Line.

For example, my new ID Line is as follows: TUC/MAJ Marcus Porcius Cato/VSD Crusader/TU Crusader/TF Crusader

Because of these changes, the other TUCs of a task force no longer are required to report to the TUC of a VSD, but should still treat that position with extra respect. TUCs will now send their pilot files to the TFC for BSFing. CAPTs will send theirs to their TUC, CDRs to their TUC, and OCs to their CDR.

    TC/NC Integration

    VA Shawshank

    01 August, 2000 16:08
    8 ABY
As many of you know, there is currently in the works a proposal that would integrate the Naval Corps and TIE Corps, allowing them to function more closely. This integration would affect COMs (and to a lesser extent WCs) directly but would also indirectly affect the periphery of TIE Corps pilots, including FMs, FLs, and CMDRs. This proposal would have several steps, some of which would include:
  • Placing each task force under the control of a COM, making the TFC (task force commander) the equivalent of a wing commander.
  • The NAVCOM would become the head of a small group of people, most likely selected from the TAC/FO offices to run Wargames for the Naval Corps.
  • Ranks would be adjusted and so would promotion requirements to better integrate with the current TIE Corps scheme.
  • Why would this be beneficial to anyone? In many cases it adds pilots to participate in competitions, including single-player, multi-player, and non-flying based. COMs would retain their abilities as administrators and would see to the task force as they would a wing. The possession or knowledge of the platform XWA would not be required nor wold the knowledge of how to run a wargame.

What do you all think about this? As I said, COMs would be the most affected, but you as pilots would as well. A thread is currently running on the TIE Corps Message Board http://www.tiecorps.org/mb/ about this topic. It is the thread begun by me and entitled "TIE Corps Merge". Let's try and get some more posts on there! We need to know your concerns!
