Description:

While traveling in the Unknown Sector the fleet has been out of communications range, but a brief moment in range has caused a major dump of mail traffic in the servers! Letters from our various home worlds have started to pour in. Write a brief letter you might get from someone at home while away fighting the rebels.

Word Count - Minimum - 200, Maximum 500
Limit 3 submissions per pilot(Top submission will be counted for placement)

Scoring Rubric

Idea

  • 4 points: Idea presented is unique and interesting, provides some background to the character's home life.
  • 3 points: Idea presented may be more common. Ties in with character's home life and provides some interesting details.
  • 2 points: Idea presented lacks creativity. Provides little or no details about character's background and association with Pilot.
  • 1 point: Idea lacks clarity, provides no details as to relationship to Pilot.

Grammar/Spelling

  • 4 points: Contains few if any errors, making it easy to read and understand
  • 3 points: Contains some errors, does not detract from the clarity of the writing
  • 2 points: Contains frequent errors in spelling and grammar that detract from the writing.
  • 1 point: Contains many errors, making the piece unreadable.

Tone

  • 4 points: Piece feels like someone writing a letter and is written from the point of view of someone close to the Pilot.
  • 3 points: Piece has some letter-like qualities, but falls short of making a good connection between "author" and the Pilot.
  • 2 points: Piece misses the mark on feeling like a letter, formatting is more akin to another piece of writing.
  • 1 point: Piece has no author, or isn't told from the first person. Lacks any structural elements that make this seem like a letter.
