TCCOM REPORT #42

REPORTING OFFICER: High Admiral Plif, TIE Corps Commander
DATE SUBMITTED: 23 Jan 22
ACTIVE DUTY ROSTER COUNT: 155 (-9) Including 3 NPCs

RECAP

The roster is down 9 since last time following a wave of AWOLs and Reserves transfers. Some of those are from RL concerns that came up unexpectedly, others are just the result of losing touch though we're keen to do everything we can from our side before saying that someone's probably gone for good. As always, these pilots remain free to rejoin if they decide that they miss us.

If you’ve got an idea for something new or how to do things differently in the TIE Corps, bringing it up in Discord is good for getting some initial feedback and fleshing out some details. But it’s not so great for putting it on the chain of command’s To Do list because conversations move on and it’s not always easy to distinguish a passing thought from an earnest suggestion. For Flight Members and Flight Leaders, you’d normally want to start by pitching your idea to your CMDR. They might have some pointers or know that something’s already being worked on. From there you’d move on to your COM, who like the CMDR would be able to provide some insight before sending it to the TCCS. Going through the chain of command is about making sure that your commanding officers have an opportunity to contribute, it’s part of why they volunteered to be leaders in the club and it doesn’t feel great to be left out. What doesn’t need to happen is for a CMDR or COM to “take over” a suggestion and forward it on behalf of the pilot that originally made it, your idea remains yours to present. Email is generally considered the best way to communicate a proposal to the TCCS, but if you put it together in something like Google Drive and send me the link in a DM I’ll distribute that to the rest of the TCCS and we’ll discuss it. While I can’t promise that we’ll be able to act on every idea, we are actively looking for ways to improve the club and don’t always notice the same kinds of things that a FM, FL, CMDR, or COM would.

Every so often someone will say something to the effect of us leaders doing a 'thankless job'. For my part, I don't really see these roles as being thankless. We spend a decent amount of time on our in-house recognition through things like rank promotions and awards, which serve as vehicles for telling someone that their efforts are noticed and appreciated. We might go a while between instances of pushing someone into the limelight and congratulating them, but the process catches up with everyone eventually. I can't speak for everybody on this, but I know I feel thanked.
