REPORTING OFFICER: Captain Adom 'fr0Zen' Wietu, Squadron Commander

(A priority communication delivers to each member of Rho Squadron from the Commander, Major Adom 'fr0Zen' Wietu.  The instructions are to appear in dress uniform at the Rho hangar bay, at attention and present by 17:00 hours local ship time on the third day of the current week. The communication is brief - containing no further details.)

At the appointed time, the Commander strides forward and centers himself before the assembled roster.  With no surprise to anyone gathered, his message begins the same as if he had delivered this update via the comms system. 

'Greetings, as ever, my Comrades in Black.

I owe each of you an explanation as to the shuffling of assignments within our roster.  As to what led to this moment, I must admit that I did a disservice to our Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Westric Davalorn in that I had not ensured he was placed as a flight leader in combination with his XO duties.' The Major looks at LCM Davalorn, and then turns his gaze towards CPT Renalds.

'And to Captain Jarion Renalds, I wholeheartedly thank you for your time in the Flight II Leader position, but moreover I am grateful for your commitment to pass the torch to Davalorn,' Wietu adds then, stepping forward to CPT Renalds and offering a crisp salute.  He allows the moment to linger for many seconds that stretch on, before returning to his position centered before the group.

He takes a breath, and continues, 'With consultation from Major RedTaz, Lieutenant Commander Davalorn, and Lieutenant vapinvanman as our most active flight member, together we decided that we saw an opportunity to reorder assignments now that we have reached a full roster and we can consider the rebuilding phase for Rho Squadron as complete.

As our members were assigned essentially arbitrarily depending on what spots happened to be open as each new member was assigned to Rho over the last six months, we were missing opportunities for better matching of skills, commitment, and experience from our Flight Leaders to our Flight Members.

And with that conclusion, we determined that the Squadron Commander should be best paired with our youngest and least experienced pilots who have the most opportunity from growth by placement in Flight I with the Commander.  We noted then that Flight II should be designated for the Squadron XO - LCM Davalorn - and that the members of that flight should be the seasoned pilots that LCM Davalorn recruited to be Imperial pilots from sources outside our structure. Or at least that should be the goal.  We were able to place two of three of his direct recruits in Flight II, while respecting CPT Jarion Renalds time and retaining him as a member of Flight II to share his experience with his new flight mates.'

The commander pauses again to allow a tangible space for the words to settle. He looks each Pilot in the eyes left to right, and smiles to see a general acceptance framed in disciplined formality. He continues then, 'Which then left us seeing that the remaining slots and pilots to assign had become a coherent group in itself.  Flight III represents a collective leadership by example - featuring Major RedTaz, LT vapinvanman, and LCM FamePlane as the three most active contributors not currently serving as your XO or your Commander.  LT Kevinbackroom completes this squad as a skilled pilot who can count on his flight members as regularly available for patrol duty and successful engagements.'

The Commander ceases speaking and crisply marches to the pilot furthest to his left - LCM Davalorn.  He shares a solid handshake with each pilot as he moves down the line.  With a swift turn to his left as he reaches the end of the row, now at a right angle to their line, Major Wietu salutes the group as a whole and bellows:

'Until a new Emperor is seated and the Rebellion is forever crushed! Rho Squadron DISMISSED!'

• Oops! Still need to work up a new banner for the Squad since that TCCOM's escort bit is now out of date. We have a plan at least!
• My next squadron work after tonight will be ensuring the November evaluations for medals are complete promptly
• The reason I will be tackling the November evaluations right on the first day possible this month is that I will be out of town from Saturday 12/4 - Saturday 12/11.  Vegas Trip Part II!

Most of these competitions take very little effort, and even just participating is enough to count as points towards monthly merit medals.  Always be sure to inform your Flight Leader of the competitions in which you participate so that your Flight Leader can be sure that you get credit each month.

I have not seen motion with Project Sovereign since my last update, so that topic merits putting on hold from this report for the time being.  This is something I will follow up on promptly - seeing nothing new as I write this.

Closely related to the shuffling of our roster, Flight Members should expect to begin noting weekly contact from their Flight Leaders.  This contact has multiple purposes:

• Better and consistent awareness of each other's real life needs week to week
• Thorough reporting on each squadron member's participation in internal and fleet wide competitions
• Detailed awareness of activities that earn monthly medal points but are not systematically reported, such as fiction entries and graphics submissions
• Improved participation in fleet wide competitions particularly
  
  

Additionally, for full transparency for all members, I have worked with our Flight Leaders to craft a set of expectations for their position.  For anyone interested in future stints as a Flight Leader in Rho, please note these duties:

• Basic duties:
  • Flight leaders should communicate with flight members directly weekly
  • Flight leaders should report to CMDR weekly on flight member activity
  • Flight leaders should report to CMDR weekly on flight member competition participation
• Activity duties:
  • Some combination of flight activity that results in 20 points minimum earned per month towards an ISM
• Lead By Example duties:
  • Flight leaders should regularly - and each week - contribute to squadron wide morale in discord
  • Flight leaders should participate in at least 1 competition per week, fleet wide or squadron specific

And with this report complete, it's time for this guy to head back to the hangar and warm up the engines for flight duties!
