TIE Corps Command Report

Weekly Report #8 – Submission date: April 14th 2013

Introduction

Greetings,

I believe it’s time to, once again, give some serious thought as to why we are here. The first thing that comes to mind is simple and obvious: “to have fun”. Although that is the case for every member without exception, Command Officers have, as I’ve said in the past, a higher task, that is: “to ensure that others have fun”. I am not approaching this subject to lecture on the importance of having competitions and promoting activity in general, but to the deeper subject of ensuring the welfare of the members, in every level of the Chain of Command. Some basic concepts, like respect, are the least we can expect to be able to continue as a group. If that is lost, there is nothing left. I don’t think anyone wants to be a commanding officer in an army of one, am I right? I just felt that it was important to remind everyone of this perspective, which outweighs every other perspective there might be. Disagreeing is a natural thing, and everyone is obviously entitled to their opinions. No one has the right to disrespect others, not even to fulfill their duties. I hope that THAT is clear.

As you may have noticed, I have decided it was necessary to open the position of DEAN of the TIE Corps’ Imperial Weapons and Tactics School for applications. Do NOT take this position lightly. I suggest everyone that has the slightest interest in this position, for whatever reason, to read the position’s description in the TIE Corps Pilot Manual, which is officially posted on the EH database. I will not appoint anyone that is not completely fit for the job and completely aware of what lies ahead. Until a suitable applicant is found, I will myself perform whatever duties that would fall upon the DEAN, as it is my job description, as stated in the same aforementioned official document. I would just like to point out that this position’s duties are of high importance to the TIE Corps, and the position will not be eliminated.

On much happier news, CM John T. Clark has been promoted to the rank of Captain this week. CPT Clark has earned this promotion without question, and it was about time this fine officer got the deserved recognition. Congratulations, Captain!

All other Monthly Squadron Evaluations have been processed this week. From Gamma Squadron, congratulations to MAJ Elwood the Brave for his Bronze Star of the Empire, and to COL Master, COL Viper Pred and MAJ Impulse on their deserved Imperial Security Medals. On Epsilon Squadron, cheers to MAJ Gyssler on his Palpatine Crescent, and to LC Quincy Nelson on his Imperial Security Medal. Also, expect the earned Medals of Communication in your inboxes sometime soon.

Results of Phase 1 of The Karana Initiative have been released. For Phase 1a – Fiction, congratulations to LC Anahorn Dempsey, CPT John T. Clark and MAJ Elwood the Brave on their Iron Stars with Gold, Silver and Bronze Ribbons, respectively. For Phase 1b – Battle Plot, congratulations to LCM Kyle Kroan, MAJ Elwood the Brave and MAJ Crsepe for their respective 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, for which they have been awarded the same aforementioned medals.

Preparations for Phase 2 of this competition have already started. Since it involves flying battles that are being now prepared from the fictions and plots of the previous stage of this competition, we would like to ask for your patience, as it takes a while to prepare and properly test those missions. But don’t worry, the competition should launch in a few weeks tops.

Conclusion

I really do expect that the following weeks will not be such as this one. I also hope that whatever decisions are made, they are always made in the light of benefiting the membership. To quote Charles Dickens, “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”. I believe that this was what motivated the decision to change the TIE Corps database, and it was the right call, because it was for the greater good. I hope this continues to be the trend.

Respectfully submitted,
