RHO WEEKLY SQUADRON REPORT #60

REPORTING OFFICER: Commander Adom “fr0Zen” Wietu, Squadron Commander
DATE SUBMITTED: 07.19.2021

SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER

(Bzzzzzzzt. BZZZZZZT. The intercom rips through the relative peace of the small office appointed to Rho's Commander.

'You have made your selection for the flight leader and XO roles, have you not?' inquires the stern voice of the Commodore.

'I'm debating.  Both applicants have strengths along different metrics so a comparison isn't quite fair,' Adom responds measuredly.

'We're not looking for fair. We're looking for getting it done. Who will get it done? Make that call, and get it done, and announced to the squadron within the hour or your shore leave is cancelled.'

'Aye sir,' Adom replies sharply. He taps the channel closed and turns to the empty screen to his right.
)

He begins composing this week's message on the terminal.

I hope to see each and everyone of you at the cantina at 21:00 sharp tonight.  We have a victory to celebrate in the Imperial Storm III War Games - especially since the latest round and our efforts in the simulators appear to have turned the tide of the competition.

The scoreboard in the main hangar may say right now that we are in last place, there's no denying that - but there's equally no denying the level of effort shipwide across all of the Warrior's squadrons.  The eggheads in the data office are quite bullish that our fastidiousness and dedication will reverse all the current indicators to be in our favor.  They of course demonstrated a number of fancy charts and mathematical proofs, and introduced this old simple monkey-lizard of a Pantoran to something they call a spreadsheet.

At the very least, I can say that I am convinced they know what they are talking about. So here's to keeping it up, and here's to tonight's drinks for the pilots of Rho on my tab!

To keep the celebration coming, and to further encourage everyone's attendance - we have two more points to pour up a round and cheer.

After intense deliberation all week, deep reviews of flight and personnel records, a series of interviews, and the responses to a rather intense questionnaire, I have made the following decisions. Moving forward:

  • Major RedTaz will move to Flight III to be the Flight Leader of 'The Emperor's Will.'  I am confident in this choice as if there's a pilot who lives the motto 'Speed Kills,' it is without a doubt the Major.  His reputation for conquering objectives in the 'Star Conflict' simulator, his quick wit, and the pace of his attentiveness in sharing observations with me are unparalleled.

  • LT Westric Davalorn will remain as a member of Flight I, but will serve within the flight with a vastly increased duty set as our new Executive Officer.  I send my warmest apologies in advance for the loss to Davalorn of a great amount of recreational free time.  Davalorn has been instrumental in his leadership in the SWS simulator, setting a high bar to emulate in flight skill, and especially in his dedication to exploring our path forward in a way that lifts all of our pilots.

Particularly for LT Davalorn, the duties will come quickly - as with these announcements I am now able to lock in a rare chance for shore leave from the twenty-eighth of this month through the second of the next.

Bring your thirst for fine Pantoran ale and your favorite drinking vessel to the Cantina and I will see you there!

Until a new Emperor is seated and the Rebellion is forever crushed!

SQUADRON NEWS
  • With all the key positions in the squadron now filled, we are really well positioned to start looking at the open spots in our roster and thinking about where we can directly recruit some new people who specifically want to join Rho from the moment they connect with the Tie Corps.  Get those thinking caps ready as I will be leaning on the whole squad but most especially the leadership team of myself, CPT Renalds, MAJ RedTaz, and LT Davalorn to put our best efforts forward and keep building this unit.
  • Trivia Grand Tour: Season Six is still running, but time is running out to score you some participation points! Make sure to join in.
  • Riddles of the Aardvark (new name!) competition continues with details here. This is another great way to test out - or grow - your Star Wars knowledge and score easy points towards monthly medals.
  • Speaking of competitions, are we all aware that simply participating in the fleet wide opportunities scores points for those shiny shiny monthly medals? And moreover, that those shiny shiny monthly medals are integral to promotions?  Consider yourself updated, and make the most of those opportunities by being sure to communicate with your flight leaders about your participation so that Adom can be sure you get credit.
  • A special thanks to all the great folks I had the chance to fly with last week for Friday Night Flights II: Star Conflict Boogaloo, and to Davalorn and Ace for cranking out SWS wins in a separate path for Imperial Storm victory!

So What Else this Week?

In hindsight, I can recommend explicitly avoiding any attempt to map your throttle to a POV hat. Especially if one plays with as .. emphatic of a touch .. as I tend to.  I was in the middle of a fleet battle Wednesday of last week when my POV hat on the T16000 completely snapped right at the base in an irreparable way.  Good thing I had been practicing flying with boost and drifting constantly regardless of the current throttle state as we pulled out a win.

I highly recommend https://www.bhphotovideo.com/ as both an ethical vendor, and a super efficient one that helped me get replacement equipment by Friday - less than 48 hours later.

CLOSING COMMENTS

As my time away draws near, and with repairs complete to my craft's controls, I anticipate a heavy week of flying to set the tone for the squadron and ensure that I do not let the skills get too rusty while I am away.

I will definitely be reaching out to all Rho pilots individually tomorrow to guage opportunities to join me - so be forewarned to expect your personal comms buzzers to signal you.
