COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER REPORT
Fleet Admiral Jarek La'an
REPORT DATE: 9th May 2021
Opening Comments

Greetings once again from the Communications Officer, writing to provide a brief update on all thing communication based since my last report some 3 months ago. As always, rather than pad reports out I'm writing and reporting as and when significant milestones or developments occur. One of these is the issues of a revised EH Code of Conduct, a link to which will be provided below. My thanks go to my superiors various for kindly reviewing initial drafts, allowing the final version to be signed off by the FC and be hosted on the main EH site.

I would encourage all members to familiarise themselves with the CoC in some detail, noting that anyone using an official EH communications platform or representing the organisation in a formal capacity is bound to abide by them. A range of penalties exist that, I hope, will deter breaches and set a clear standard of what we should all expect to ensure the club remains the same family-friendly environment in which we can respect each other's views and sensitivities while still allowing free flowing discussion.

While the general format has been maintained, the previous CoC were IRC focused and as such have been significantly broadened - this has also included additional definitions, revised penalties and a clarification of what actions are expected of admins or people in any position of authority within the club. In general, a PG-13 rating remains the objective - at times this might be strayed beyond, but I hope this CoC encourages common sense and a shared understanding of where the red lines exist that will land individuals in difficult positions should they be crossed. Any queries will be happily answered by myself when received!

Let me know if other platforms are increasing use or offer opportunity, there are always platforms out there to exploit, particularly as the positive impact of Star Wars Squadrons continues to aid our regrowth.

The hull of the Herald fell into the vast shadow of the Avenger as the SSD passed between her and the system's distant red supergiant. The fleet coasted gently in the void while a series of planned repairs and preventative maintenace were conducted to the propulsion systems. Few of the major vessels had operated this far from their home sector for this long in decades - while they were hardly nursing them along there was no need to take flagrantly idiotic risks by driving their vessels hard without pause.  This isolated and uninhabited system at the upper edge of the galactic disc had been identified as a 'nowhere' unlikely to have any sentient traffic. Their intel had proven correct and for now the fleet moved in tight formation as dozens of smaller vessels shuttled between them.

The ship's bridge remained quiet, the officer of the watch moving from station to station to oberve readouts or take reports. The half dozen officers were focused on their duty and exuded a calm and professional air that La'an had always appreciated. The bustle and pressure of a true combat vessel always created a nervy or tense environment that seemed to breed problems. La'an departed the bridge content that all was as it should be and returned to his own quarters two decks below, grateful of the opportunity to stretch his legs before resuming another lengthy review of fleet reports and data.

As the door hissed close behind him, La'an noticed the quiet chirp of an incoming message and moved straight to his desk to consult the screen. A summons from the Fleet Commander... alerting his pilot to ready the Clarion, his personal Mu-2 class shuttle, he straightened his tunic and quickly headed for the compact hangar in the bow. He wasn't immediately sure whether an unplanned audience with the Grand Admiral was preferable to his planned data review, but at this point it seemed distinctly unlikely.

In Closing
Stay engaged, stay active and communicate. Treat your peers with respect and heed the (new!) CoC - if you have any queries or issues, drop me a line!

Until next time,

Onwards.
