ISD-II Challenge
Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.013
Report date: october 25th, 2020

Commodore's speech

Dempsey stared through the transparisteel viewport aboard the might ISD-II Challenge. In the distance she saw transports, shuttles and starfighters buzzing around. At least, that's what she thought. In reality, they were no more than flickering lights, where the sun reflected off the hulls of those vessels. Or maybe she was imagining it.

What she did see was the hulk of the once thrinving but now deserted Golan III battle station, high in orbit above the desert planet below.

'All survivors ahve been transported off the station, ma'am,' came the voice of her Wing Commander. 'Commander Tressel has signalled the station is now deserted. His troops have salvaged all the parts they can use. The last transport has just returned.'

Dempsey smiled. Tressel and his engineers had been working for two days straight, stripping the Golan of every usable bit of tech or resource the Challenge might need. With a bit of luck, more than they would need to restore the ship to its former glory, more than enough to get the ship back to 100% operational status.

'Weapons control, target the Golan. Fire at will.'

For a moment, nothing happened. Then the familiar green streaks of superheated plasma erupted from the portside turbolaser batteries of her ship, and lanced through space towards their target. A probe had been positioned nearby, and was transmitting images of the Golan to the Star Destroyer. Within moments, Dempsey watched as one of the large superstructures on the Golan was pierced with hundreds of energy bolts, and sheered off, slowly distancing itself from the station. Soon, she knew, it would be trapped in the planet's gravity well and begin its final descent. At that moment explosions rocked to Golan as the first volley of proton torpedoes from the Challenge struck the defenseless battle station.

After a mere two minutes, she raised her hand, and the violence came to an end as the Challenge's's weapons systems fell silent. The burning hulk of the Golan was visible even with the naked eye now. The fires wouldn't last, as they quickly consumed the last of the oxygen that remained. They would die, and the Golan itself, too, would fall victim to the planet's gravitatinal field.

'The last shuttle has left the planet surface, Admiral,' LC Denys said. 'The expect to dock in 5 minutes.'

Dempsey nodded. 'Prepare the ship for the jump to light speed,' she said. 'Set course for Pyrath.'

On the planet surface, thousands of civilians watched the sky, the burning Golan fading like a candle going out in the night. Many of them wondered what the future would bring. A small flash in the night sky told them the Star Destroyer had left orbit. Now they were truly alone...

Another good week, if I do say so myself. We've had new recruits, and there are wonderful things in the works at this point. Big news this week is something you don't see every month: MAJ Hermann was awarded a Gold Star of the Empire for his impressive performance last month. Gold Stars don't come around often, and usually follow several Silver Star months in a row, so this is just my way of showing my appreciation :)

Also, it seems my predecessor failed to award COL Silwar Naiilo his medal for the month of August, a situation which has now been rectified as his Bronze Star of the Empire has also been approved. Also, the Silver Stars of the Empire for CM EvilGrin and COL Naiilo for September were processed and added to their records. Grats to you as well!

That means there is one more MSE medal somewhere awaiting its recipient, as we start the final week of October. Of course that means the next round of MSEs is upon us shortly, and COL Stryker will do his first MSE since ancient times as Firebird's first full month on this ship comes to a close. Good luck, Colonel!

More and more people are coming back from the Reserves, and new recruits arrive in the TIE Corps on a near-daily basis. I've not checked the other ships, but over here, we only have 4 spots left. One in Firebird, 2 in Inferno, 1 in Tempest, with Thuinder being at maximum capacity. One of these spots is a Flight Leader position, so if you're interested, have a word with CM EvilGrin.

This week, we welcome COL Ricaud and former IWCOM FA NiksaVel (now Colonel) back from the Reserves, as well as SL SkyHigh who joins us fresh off the SSD Avenger. Now let's get rid off that SL rank, shall we! With 4 LoCs already on your record, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

    Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots

Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessaarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins. Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR. A 25th victory will give you an IS-PR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.

    Wrapping up

Every pilot on the Challenge should prepare him/herself for the coming month. The long anticipated ship-wide competition will start next Sunday with the issuing of my report. You will be tested on all kinds of different levels, flying, non flying, single player and MP, trivia and what more. There's a lot of medals up for grabs. The final word on the competition will be in my next report, which will have a handful of changes compared to what's in the Competitions Center. It felt a shame to not have anything Squadrons related in there :)
