Gamma Squadron Report

Weekly Report #3 – Submission date: September 18th 2011

Introduction

Greetings,

This week saw the arrival of our newest member. Welcome to LC Mark Schueler, who just returned from a short period in the Reserves! LC Schueler joined Flight 1, and has already started performing admirably with many missions flown in his first week, and even a Multiplayer victory! Note that despite his status lately displayed he was a Major, the database corrected his rank after an approved promotion recommendation from last February, so congrats on that as well!

Gamma has a new googlegroups mailing list to allow me administration privileges called EHTC Gamma Squadron (e-mail address is ehtc-gamma-squadron@googlegroups.com)! You all should have received an invitation, but not all joined already. I’ll contact those who haven’t soon. This report will still be going to both lists to make sure everyone get’s it, so my apologies for the repeated mails in your inboxes today.

There is a new revised Battlegroup and Wing Order of Battle. Gamma was assigned to have 3 flights of Missile Boats, but due to...erm...supply issues...we’ll “have” to stick with Assault Gunboats for the time being. An operation is being assembled to retrieve the CMDR’s TIE Defender, the Astra Fighter, and hopefully a few more from the museum being assembled in the SSSD Sovereign, in orbit around Aurora Prima, where the Fleet Commander has ordered it stays. I’ll let you know the details, if I ever come THAT close to the HCI :P

As you probably noticed, COL Zosite is back, but now he is already on leave again for about a month due to personal reasons. Gladly, before he left the good Colonel managed to participate in *every* running competition, so 3 pilot files from him! Come back soon!

Speaking of pilot files, I’d like to thank both COL Zosite and LC Mark for their participation in the Mission of the Week competition! Both their scores were better than mine, so congratulations on that! Check the Competition Center below for updated scores and new mission assignment! Everyone else should join us!

Which brings me to my next topic: I’ve decided to change a bit the scoring rules in Mission of the Week competition, to make it both fairer and to allow those who have not flown yet for a particular month not to lose chances of winning, and thus losing interest. Since I’ll be mostly assigning alternate platforms each week, and the scores of the platforms are quite different from each other, scoring will be made based on percentages of the high score listed after the deadline of that week. That means that if a pilot gets a high score of that mission, like Zos did this week, he will be awarded 100 points, and the other pilots will be awarded the relative percentage of that score. If no one gets a high score, the points awarded will be relative to the listed high score. So, if anyone needs further explanation on the subject feel free to contact me, as I can even provide the Excel sheet I prepared for this particular comp.

As the TCCOM mentioned in his report, we’ve had many difficulties adjusting to the new database. The good news is that its primary functions are working, and also that there are plans for improvement in the near future regarding the notification system. Excellent news!

Competition Center

* Operation: Razor’s Edge
Participants: Gamma Squadron – CMDR included, since competition was started by COL Master.
This competition has been started by COL Master. There were already 2 parts for this competition, and a third one is ongoing. The first part consisted of a trivia question regarding the origin of the name of the competition, which was answered right by me, granting me 5 points. Tempest and Impulse got 3 points for their answers. The second part was a flying assignment, which was anything you’d want from the compendium. COL Viper Pred submitted TIE-Free 35, I submitted XWA-Free 1, CM Impulse submitted TIE-Free 264, and LC Tempest submitted TIE-TC 201. The third assignment is as follows:
Current Assignment: TIE-DB 13 – Circlet of Domination
Deadline: September 24th
Scoring: Trivia points assigned by COL Master. Second segment will be one point for each mission flown, two if it’s a mission high score. Third assignment scoring is:
Top LL Score: 10 points
Second place: 5 points
Third place: 3 points
1 extra point for each individual mission highest scorer (total of 6 points available).

* What if it was us?
Participants: Gamma Squadron Flight 3 only!
Gamma Flight 3 pilots are to fly XWA-TC 62 – Outbreak. For every mission, they are to write one paragraph of fiction telling what the mission would be like if it was actually The Four Horsemen ™ that participated in the mission. If by any chance we are already in any particular mission, they can write about what we actually did, or should have done (so mission designers can portrait us properly next time). Fictions will be judged by humor, coolness, or whatever makes The Four Horsemen ™ look good...or bad. Grammar and spelling not to be an issue. Fictions will be judged by Gamma Flight 3 Leader (currently Gamma CMDR), who will also fly the battle, but won’t be eligible for the IS-BW.
Awards: IS-BW for battle top scorer and IS-BR for best fiction.
Deadline: September 15th – extended until the 20th

* Master's Mighty Mission of the Week! - Redux
Start Date: February 28, 2011
End Date: December 30, 2011
Participants: So we must begin our long journey... Towards the lands of Awesomeo... Towards greatness....
Awards: Highest scorer after 4 rounds will win a IS-BW Any pilot who scores higher than me after 4 rounds will also receive a IS-BW. Medals only available to pilots within Gamma Squadron. Any entries from other pilots are welcome.
Description: In an effort to promote good missions, lots of medals and good old competitive spirit each week I’m going to nominate a free/battle/map. After four weeks (end of each month) the scores will be totaled. Highest scorer will win a medal as well as any pilot who beats my own score.

Conclusion

I can say I am pretty happy with the way things are shaping up for Gamma, and for the rest of the fleet as well, actually. Makes me proud to be here again, and at such prestigious position.

I could be even happier if activity level rises to the point of every pilot we got participating in competitions. They may not award much, but they sure as hell are fun to participate, and to host. Make it worth your while to be here!
