THE NEW EMPIRE (Continuation)
VI
- Attention Sirs! Von Predator Forge answered- This is our plan.
When we are at attack distance, Eldanor and Stack will move ahead
and loose their torpedoes against the objectives, then they will
come back immediately to the Intrepid… Then O’Ryan and Branet will
do the same, but they won’t return to the Intrepid… they must follow
me as escorts until I achieve enough distance to loose my space
bombs… Then we will also come back…Do you copy Gamma 3?…
Numerous consent answers were in unison heard against the growing
noise of our ships engines. At the same time, the alert systems of
my fighter-bomber started sending warning signals. The tracking
sensors faraway identified numerous enemy bombers coming to
intercept us. From them, thousands of fragments got loose which were
immediately identified as steered torpedoes by my ship sensors.
All of my spaceship defensive systems were automatically activated
setting shields to their maximum power…
- This is Gamma 3-2; enemy bombers are coming to us! We’ll have to
adopt evasive operations!
- Gamma 3-2, do not break the formation! – Von Predator ordered –
Help is soon coming!…
A huge vibration shook my ship along with an immense noise produced
by engines to maximum acceleration. Numerous Interceptors Ties
passed around me almost grazing the shields, which threw into the
enemy interceptors. An uncountable lasers rain got loose from them
starting to sweep our frontal space, destroying missiles and enemy
spaceships. In the middle of that hazy scene full of explosions and
pieces lied through our way, the sensors in my helmet detected a
free way to the enemies, which I immediately reported to my wing
leader.
- I’ve got it, Branet! – Von Predator answered – Gamma 3, follow my
trace!…
We accelerated to maximum speed. Von Predator, followed by O’Ryan,
moved forward shooting lasers and following an invisible route,
which could only be interpreted by the graphics that our sensors
reflected on our helmet screens… This route looked like a tunnel,
through which we moved as if we were inside a spiral and whose walls
were made of Interceptors Ties and enemy bombers fighting among them,
shooting lasers and torpedoes that interrupted our route from time
to time. Among the interceptors, I could identify Captain D.T.
Hammer's fighter-bomber. Casualties being borne by the squadron
turned on critic, so I even more accelerate my Tie bomber, taking
care not to smash into another spaceship. We could see the way out
in front of us. We rose out like a whirlwind, followed by laser
shootings and proton torpedoes. Two of them had altered their course
against me, forcing my Tie bomber to make acute tactics that
threatened the integrity of its structure. I managed to escape from
them. When I could balance my spaceship, I adjusted my vision into
my objective.
An enemy frigate was in front of us…
- OK gentlemen; load your torpedoes… - Von Predator ordered- Eldanor,
what’s your state?
- Regular state, Sir – the Sublieutenant answered – My shields are
at a 75% and my guide system is lightly damaged… So I will have to
get a little bit closer to my objective...
- Try not to take a risk too much Sublieutenant; we need you for a
second backlash…
- Stack?…
- Just a few scratches, Sir. I have my objective perfectly focused…
- Fine, we are almost at shooting distance … go forward the
formation!
Both Tie-bombers came loose from our alignment moving forward. Each
one started taking a lightly different direction focusing his
objective. I could notice that Sublieutenant Eldanor’s fighter
bomber had certain damages at both sides and its speed was slower,
for which I was worried about.
- O’Ryan and Branet, report your state!
- Nothing to report, Sir. I have my torpedoes loaded – O’Ryan
answered – I’m ready to fight…
- I for my part, everything’s in order, Sir – I hurriedly answered
while I looked at my sensors and Eldanor and Stack’s fighter bombers
evolution.
- I’m analyzing the Frigate structure. His dimensions are bigger
than normal. I don’t get any record of its origin or identification
from our database.
- I copy, Branet – Von Predator answered – Attention, Gamma 3. Start
the attack!
I immediately accelerated my spaceship breaking the formation. I
adjusted the vision of my helmet again to observe my companions’
attack, while I calibrated my fighter-bomber sight. Faraway, Eldanor
and Stack got loose their torpedoes almost at the same time.
Meanwhile a growing laser rain fell around them, which was coming
from the enemy frigate turrets. They both started evasive strategies
trying to escape from the shooting range by means of diverse spins
through the laser rain. I could frightened see how a rays row turned
aside looking for Sublieutenant Eldanor’s fighter bomber and
striking one of its wings, which finally exploded into thousand of
pieces. Wrapped in flames and smoke, the spaceship started spinning
without any control describing a parabola that finally crashed on
the same frigate and causing a huge explosion on its hull… At the
same time, followed by enemy batteries, Stack could move away his
spaceship with difficulty being shocked on the back part of the
fighter-bomber and which shook it. Finally, he found the true course
of the Intrepid. Immediately afterwards, several explosions revealed
that torpedoes had hit on their objectives, demolishing part of the
turrets that had attacked them and which put Sublieutenant Eldanor
to death…

The next highest score will earn 3, the next highest 2, and all other submissions will earn 1. If the winning pilot in a platform also beat the high score (without the handicap added), that pilot will earn 5 points for that platform.
