ISDII WARRIOR REPORT #10

REPORTING OFFICER: Rear Admiral Hav Antiel, Commodore
DATE SUBMITTED: 21 October 2018

COMMODORE'S SHORT FICTION

Abandoned barracks aboard the ISD-II Warrior, directly under Kappa Squadron’s quarters

A squad of stormtroopers, led by a black-uniformed officer, approached the closed durasteel door in two columns. With a nod, the officer called the soldiers into a defensive formation. The ten stormtroopers raised their blaster rifles and formed a compact phalanx.

“This is Lieutenant Namsey,” the officer barked through the door. “On orders of Wing Commander General Frown, I order you to open this door immediately.”

There was a flurry of sound on the other side of the door, light clunking that sounded like cheap patio furniture being assembled.

Namsey, who was already frowning, grimaced at the lack of response.

“I have a squad of stormtroopers prepared to bombard the door,” he yelled.

Suddenly, there was a response.

“Give us a minute,” came a man’s voice from inside. “We’re not decent.”

Namsey looked back as his troops. A stormtrooper shrugged.

“I repeat, this is Lieutenant Namsey—”

The door *wooshed* open, revealing an active barracks. A dozen stormtroopers stood and sat in various stages of undress, fitting their leg armor, stepping into white boots, and helping each other fasten their chestpieces. All had their helmets in place.

“I said give us a minute,” said one stormtrooper standing near the door in an undershirt and armored codpiece.

Namsey gulped in surprise. “What’s going on here?” he asked. “Where’s the ship? Where are the, uh—”

“The well-armed subversives, sir?” one of Namsey’s troopers chimed in.

“Yes, thank you LK-71665,” said Namsey. “Where are the subversives?”

The half-naked stormtrooper laughed, elbowing another trooper who was pulling on his black undersuit nearby.

“I don’t know what to tell you, lieutenant. This is just a run-of-the-mill stormtrooper barracks.”

The fully-clothed stormtroopers behind Namsey chuckled and lowered their rifles. Namsey leaned forward, craning his neck to observe the room. He squinted at the stormtrooper’s wrinkled A-frame undershirt.

“I’m going to have to examine the area,” Namsey said, stepping forward. Two other half-dressed troopers came forward, blocking the lieutenant.

“With all due respect, sir,” said the half-dressed trooper, “we passed our last inspection. We’re not due for another one until the end of the month.” The three stormtroopers standing in front of Namsey, despite being half-naked, provided an intimidating presence. Noticing the tattoo of a fierce dragon on one of the trooper’s biceps, Namsey took a careful step backwards. He turned to one of his soldiers.

“LK-71665, you’re certain this was the location?”

“Yeah, pretty sure,” the stormtrooper stammered.

“’Pretty sure’?” Namsey repeated, pressing his fist to his palm.

“Well, it’s a big ship, sir. I think this was where it happened. I was pretty traumatized.”

“Are we done here?” asked the stormtrooper in the doorway. “We have to finished getting dressed.”

“Yes, that’s fine,' Namsey sighed. 'As you were.” He fished a C1 comlink from his breast pocket and let out a sharp breath. He motioned for his stormtrooper squad to follow as he briskly walked down the corridor toward the lifts.

“General Frown, this is Lieutenant Namsey,” he said into the comlink. “We have investigated the area, and it appears to be functioning stormtrooper barracks…”

*****

Inside the barracks, the heavy doors closed with a hiss. Rear Admiral Hav Antiel pulled off the stormtrooper helmet, revealing his sweaty face.

“I told you that would work,” he said, smiling.

Around him, the pilots of Kappa Squadron cheered as they started removing bits of stormtrooper armor.

“I still don’t get it,” said Major Aldaric. “Why not have us in full stormtrooper armor?”

Antiel laughed. “It was hard enough finding enough helmets. Even the commodore can’t ‘requisition’ that much gear without getting noticed. Anyway, I figured anyone working for Frown would be too buttoned-up to hang around asking questions while twelve troopers are in their underwear.”

“Can we pull this down now?” asked General Dunta Polo at the back of the barracks. Antiel nodded, and Polo and Colonel Hawkins lowered a holoscreen that had been blocking half of the barracks from view. Behind it, the darkened shape of Antiel’s project sat sideways against the wall.

“Thank you again for your help, pilots,” said Antiel. “Drinks are on me for a month.”

“Forget drinks,” said Aldaric. “Just let me fly that thing once it’s finished!”

NEWS

Welcome to this week's Warrior report. On Thursday, I finished the recommendations for the merit awards from September's eval. MSEs take some time to compile, so I'd like to thank our CMDRs once again for their efforts.

It's been a little quiet on the ship this week, but I did find time to join the SOO, AD Plif, for some co-op XvT missions. For the first time, I'm listed on all three Kill Boards: SP, MP, and co-op. How about that! Thanks to AD Prower's advice, I've solved the input lag issues that kept me from enjoying XvT and XWA (although there are still a few issues that will always keep me from loving those games as much as TIE Fighter).

There's a little over a week left in October's Escort Flight competitions. It looks like we might have another new face in the rankings again this month, which is good to see. However, it looks like there are only two Warriors on the MP Kill Boards at the moment (not counting me), so I urge you to get out there and earn a spot on my escort flight. The Trivia Grand Tour continues this week with more screenshots from Star Wars films.
