Admiral Pete Mitchell left the
Challenge’s hangar bay turned makeshift cantina in high spirits after celebrating
his promotion to TIE Corps Commander with most of the fleet. There was a makeshift banner above the
bulkhead he just went through that said “Tex’s
Palace”. Tex
was Pete’s call sign, given to him by his wing commander many years ago after
a hot sauce from his home world. It was hard not to reflect on his career
with the Corps on his walk back to his new stateroom. When he joined up with his best friend Treb Helfest into Gimel
Squadron…the battles…
his first CMDR tour of duty…
rejoining after all those years in the mining industry… His rise since his return had been a
whirlwind partly because of the timing of opportunities, and partly from his
wisdom and experience as a leader outside the military. It was always the same recipe for success,
however, even in mining. Trust people,
point them in a direction, challenge them, and guide them a lightly along the
way. Now, Pete thought, he is here,
TCCOM. His walk slowed… just before
getting to the turbolift. Now, he has perhaps, the toughest choice of
his career. He must choose an Strategic Operations Officer. He had talked to the two previous TCCOMs
and both said the most important choice you would make is your SOO. He thought back to his mining days where
one of his first mentors said “People is policy”. “No pressure…” Pete thought
sarcastically. His gait seemed to keep
slowing down, as if he never made it back to his quarters, he’d never have to
choose, but make it back he did. As much as he wanted to sleep, he
couldn’t get this decision off his mind, and he sat down at his desk, looking
at four very well-worn files. Sure,
he’d only had the applications for a week, and only recently interviewed each
candidate, but he’d been looking at their files for a month. Ever since he found out he would be TCCOM,
he knew who would apply, and he still couldn’t decide. He would take a file, stare at it, flip
some pages, then set it aside and look at the next. Around the time Pete would normally wake
up, he held a file and thought he had a decision. He put the file back on top of the stack
and leaned back in his chair. He
grabbed his magic 8-ball that he had picked up on one of his mining planets
and asked it “Am I making the right choice?” “Time will tell.” It responded. “Thanks, big help,” exclaimed Pete.
“Well, maybe that does help.” With
that, Pete got up, laid on his bed, fully clothed, and promptly passed out. Much later in the morning, Pete got up,
showered, donned his flight suit, and bee-lined it for the hanger bay. The deck officer startled at the sight of
him and snapped a salute. “Sir, I’m
surprised to see you here. Surely you
have…” “This is the most important thing I have
to do right now, Commander. I trust my
TIE is ready.” “As always, Sir.” “Thank you.” Pete hopped in his relatively new TIE
Guardian and bolted out of the hangar.
Out in space, Pete practiced a few maneuvers, then turned his G-force
compensator all the way down, and did a few more. He then dodged and weaved between the ships
of the fleet and through the trenches of the Star Destroyers. Pete finally felt clear headed again, and
formed his resolve. Pete activated his radio, “Tex to the Challenge, please connect me to my assistant.” “Roger, Tex,
you’re connected.” “Captain, please gather as much of the
fleet as you can get into the Challenge hangar and set up for a transmission
to the remainder at 1700 hours.” “Got it Admiral, anything else?” “Yes, please make sure my dress uniform
is ready to go” “Done and Done. See you soon Admiral!” Just a few hours later, Pete, in his new
dress uniform strode into the hangar by flanked by officers at attention,
saluting as he walked by. He stopped
in front of the formation at the center of the bay. Off to his left, were the four candidates
for SOO. COL Horus Blackheart, Admiral
Plif, Admiral Miles Prower, and Admiral Silvius. Pete looked over at them, just as they were
dropping their salute, and returned the salute. “Today I am here to announce the result
of the most difficult decision of my career, so far. Rescuing FA Pellaeon was easier than
this. The choice, of course, is who my
right-hand man and SOO will be during my tenure as your TIE Corps Commander. This choice is made so difficult by the
caliber of leaders we have here in the fleet.
Any of these four that stand before you would make a great Strategic
Operations Officer. I therefore must
choose based on who would make the best SOO for ME. Besides being an exemplary leader, a
visionary, and an excellent pilot, my choice complements me. His strengths can compensate for my
weaknesses, few as they may be.” A few coughs came from the crowd, and
Pete chuckled. “My SOO is a great
communicator, and has been a friend and confidant for some time. I am confident that he and I can work as a
team to continue to improve the fleet and make it stronger than ever
before. Admiral Plif, please step
forward.” Pete walked over to Plif. “I give you your new SOO!” Pete grabbed Plif’s
hand and shook it. Cheering erupted
throughout the hangar, perhaps a bit louder from the Warrior’s side. “Now, I believe we have another party to
start! I’m sure Kappa has something up
their sleeves…Kappa Hype!” |

Welcome
pilots, to my first report as TCCOM.
I’d very much like to thank Pellaeon and Rapier for putting their
trust in me. I will do my best to make sure it was not misplaced. That being said... Congratulations
to now COL Pellaeon for earning the Medal of Freakin’
Honor for his time as SOO and TCCOM. Well-deserved my friend! As
seen above, congratulations to our new SOO, AD Plif! As a result, the Warrior Commodore position
is open. I will refer to AD Plif to detail what he requires and would like in
an application. Congratulations
are also in order for our new TAC, AD Pickled Yoda! SL
De Anggul was also promoted to LT, so
congratulations! Also,
all June MSE’s have already been processed and medals awarded. Congratulations to GN Pickled Yoda, GN
Elwood the Brave, and COL Pellaeon for their Gold Stars of the Empire! LC Hav Antiel, LC Earnim Branet, GN
Gilad Pelleaon, CPT Aldaric, and COL Hawkins were all awarded Silver Stars of
the Empire, and GN Mark Schueler was awarded two! Also, LC Michael Emrys,
GN Anahorn Dempsey, and CPT Rando were awarded Bronze Stars! On
a sadder note, GN Mark Schueler has stepped down as Theta CMDR. The position is open for applications. Please send them to AD Plif and CC me. Also,
we lost four Alpha pilots to the reserves: MAJ Jedgar, CM Sergeyli,

TIE Corps on Patrol 2018: Round 14 Assignments: TIE-Free 267: The Mortal Immortal
#1 XvT-Free 198: Chaos Squadron
Strikes Back! XWA-Free 126: A Spanner in the
Works BSF emails/pilot files will be due by 5 pm
Pacific/8 pm Eastern/1 am London on Monday July 16. Rules: It’s a new year, so this will change a
little. Every TWO weeks, there will be
a free mission from each of the major SP platforms (TIE, XvT, XWA)
assigned. Pilots will fly each mission
that they choose and BSF the battles to the TC database and forward the BSF
email to Pete Mitchell. If the pilot has
earned a high score, BSF it and also send the pilot file to Pete Mitchell in
case the BSF is not approved in time. Each week the pilot with the highest
score in each platform will earn 4 points.
The next highest score will earn 3, the next highest 2, and all other
submissions will earn 1. If the
winning pilot in a platform also earned a high score, that pilot will earn 5
points for that platform. Points will
accumulate for the week, month, and year for more awards. Awards: Annual: IS-PW/GW/SW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the year.
(at least 5 participants) IS-GW/SW/BW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the year in each platform (at least 4
participants) Monthly: IS-GW/SW/BW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the month (at least 3 participants). Weekly: IS-SW/BW for 1st and 2nd
total points for the week (at least 3 participants). IS-SW/BW for 1st and 2nd
in each platform (at least 2 participants). TIE Corps Pilot League 2018: Round 13 Results: TIE-Free 53: BGKurt
#1 – Current HS = 68,911
XvT-Free 21: The Ambush
–
Current HS = 103,797
XWA-Free 22: Battlecry
One – Current HS = 31,160
Overall:
Round 14 Assignments: TIE-Free 56: Drizzt
#1 – Current HS – 66,496 XvT-Free 23: Raith’s
Promotion – Current HS – 58,963 XWA-Free 23: Battle of Baraton – Current HS – 15,148 Rules: This competition is similar to TIE Corps
on patrol, but it is handicapped to make it accessible to more pilots. Every TWO weeks, there will be a free
mission from each of the major SP platforms (TIE, XvT, XWA) assigned. Pilots will fly each mission that they
choose and BSF the battles to the TC database and forward the BSF email to
Pete Mitchell. If the pilot has earned
a high score, BSF it and also send the pilot file to Pete Mitchell in case
the BSF is not approved in time. BSF emails/pilot files will be due by 5 pm
Pacific/8 pm Eastern/1 am London on July 23. Each week the pilot with the highest
handicap score (expressed as a % of the high score) in each platform will
earn 4 points. The next highest score
will earn 3, the next highest 2, and all other submissions will earn 1. If the winning pilot in a platform also
beat the high score (without the handicap added), that pilot will earn 5
points for that platform. It is
possible for a pilot to be the only pilot to beat the high score, and not win
that platform. If for example, pilot A
got 90% of the high score and has a 25% handicap for a total of 115%, and
pilot B got 105% of the existing HS (and earned a new HS) with a handicap of
5% for a total of 110%, Pilot A would win the platform for the week for 4
points and pilot 3 would only earn 3 points. Points will accumulate for the
week, month, and year for more awards. Handicaps will be calculated as follows: The average score in the platform as a
percent of the high scores will be calculated as an average of all scores on
that platform since the beginning of the League (avg). The handicap will be calculated as the difference
between the average and 100%. For
example, if a pilot’s average score in TIE is 75% of the HS, his handicap
will be 100%-75%=25%. If a pilot then
scored 85,000 pts on a mission with an existing HS of 100,000 points, his
handicap score would be 85% + 25% = 110%. *The first round any pilot flies in any
platform will not have a handicap added as the pilot will not have an
average. Therefore, the first round,
there are no handicaps, only scratch scores.
**I reserve the right to create a maximum
handicap. At this point, it is
75%. Awards: Annual: IS-PW/GW/SW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the year.
(at least 5 participants) IS-GW/SW/BW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the year in each platform (at least 4
participants) IS-GW/SW/BW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd most improved averages over the year in each platform (at
least 4 participants, must have flown at least 10 missions) Monthly: IS-GW/SW/BW for 1st 2nd
and 3rd total points for the month (at least 3 participants). Weekly: IS-SW/BW for 1st and 2nd
total points for the week (at least 3 participants). IS-SW/BW for 1st and 2nd
in each platform (at least 2 participants). |
