Sin Squadron
SIN WEEKLY SQUADRON REPORT #1
SIN CMDR: CM Hav Antiel
REPORT DATE: 21 May 2017
SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER
EH Space, in transit between the ISDII Hammer and the ISDII Warrior

Warrior, this is shuttle Aegyptius 1-3 requesting permission to board.”

“Aegyptius 1-3, transmit the clearance code for shield passage.”

I glanced up from my datapad to watch the shuttle pilot flip several switches as the ISDII Warrior loomed in the viewscreen. It had been a long time – ten years, maybe – since I’d flown a Lambda-class shuttle back on Dosuun. But at the present, I was trying to calm my nerves and enjoy the downtime during the brief flight from the Hammer, my home for nearly three years, to the Warrior.

The pilot who’d been on the comms with the Warrior turned and took note of my rank badge.

“What brings you to the Warrior, commander?”

“New assignment,” I said.

“Gunner, eh?” he asked, swiveling back to the viewscreen. Sheesh, I thought to myself. Can’t relax for a minute. I exhaled sharply.

“TIE Corps, actually,” I said. “I’m the new Sin commander.”

“Ah, my mistake. You don’t look like the usual type, no offense.”

Everyone’s a critic, I thought. The shuttle pilot chuckled and flipped another switch.

“Sin squadron,” he said. “Great squad. Got any experience with the Gunboat?”

“Actually, Sin’s flying the Missile Boat. Three whole flights of ‘em. But yeah, I’ve flown ‘em. Two years in Epsilon’s third flight. Over 400 missions. Nearly 100 kills, too.”

Sithspit. Shouldn’t have said that last part.

The shuttle pilot whistled and elbowed his unperturbed co-pilot.

“Hear that? A hundred kills! We’re chauffeuring a bona-fide ace”

I leaned back, sighing. This was a familiar battle. Feeling underqualified and then overcompensating; rising to the smallest retort and regretting it immediately. It was going to take more than pride and a strong combat record to be a successful squadron commander. Everyone is fighting a battle. I took a deep breath and focused on the Warrior growing larger ahead.

“You have any TIE experience, captain?” I asked. He scoffed.

“Hours and hours on the simulator, sure,” he said. “Scores higher than you’ve ever seen, I bet.”

Just as I suspected, I thought.

“Ever consider a transfer to one of the fighter squadrons?”

The Warrior interrupted over the comms.

“Inbound, one klick, Aegyptius 1-3, deactivation of the shield will commence immediately. Follow your present course.”

The pilot flipped several switches as the shuttle prepared to loop into the Warrior’s landing bay.

“Yeah, I thought about it,” he said. “Wouldn’t mind flying my own T/D, but I don’t know. Too much politics these days.”

“You know, sim scores are often a good indicator,” I said.

“You’re telling me,” he said. “Highest scores ever denied by the Academy. Or so I’m told.”

The shuttle glided into the Warrior’s landing bay, and I squinted at the gleaming walls of the hangar as we touched down. This is it, I thought. My new home. Looks exactly like the Hammer. I could see the pilots of Sin squadron waiting in a tidy line where the landing ramp would shortly lower. I gulped, smoothing out my uniform as I stood. Here we go.

The shuttle pilot stood and extended his hand. “Hey, good luck, commander,” he said.

“Thanks, captain,” I said. “If you change your mind about getting some combat experience, come see me. We’re always looking for eager pilots.”

  • The Price of Sin - This is a weekly competition with a separate IS-BW awarded to the pilot earning the greatest number of LoC/LoS/or highest number of SP missions flown. Minimum criteria for award is 2+ pilots participating across any of the 3 categories. (Note: No Price of Sin medals were awarded this week due to lack of participation. CLOSING COMMENTS
I’d like to thank the pilots of Sin Squadron for a very warm welcome. I tip my hat to GN Jarek La’an for helping me get up to speed on all things Sin. My thanks also go out to MAJ Earnim Branet for the kind words and thorough flight report that helped me create this WSR and to LT stevenpowell for the words of encouragement.

Also, with the news that Mark Schueler’s son is in the hospital, please keep the colonel’s family in your thoughts.

For Sin,
