2017 has started and rolled onwards for a few weeks, which presents an ideal point for another Sin report. I had hoped to release this 3 days ago but unfortunately RL took charge again and made things rather difficult, so a little over 2 weeks since returning from Xmas leave I hope we can safely say that we’re all well rested and ready to go for the year ahead.

You should never start a report with an apology, however I’ll ignore that advice again for a moment – you won’t have failed to notice that the back end of December turned into a frenzy of command appointments and changes, during which I stepped in as an interim, acting COM – a major distraction from my proper duties as your CMDR. I’m back in the chair now, ready to go. 3 MSEs and dozens of e-mails later I’m back and hopefully RA Len Eode as the new COM and former Sigma CMDR will be in a great place from here on in - with the last MWE having just been returned and all necessary recc's approved I’m in the very happy place of being able to bring some very good news. (for a change!)

A number of backlogged MoCs have now been awarded, with the only remaining action a promotion I am about to make as a response to the December MWE. I’d like to be the first to congratulate MAJ Xavier Sienar on his promotion, in advance of the database, reflecting his continued commitment to both squadron and wing over many months.

Hopefully there will be other pomotions and awards for more pilots in the next few months, if anyone wants to get a closer look at where they stand or figure out what they need to do next, please let me know. Unfortunately a number of LTs are unable to progress to LCM, across the Wing, due to problems completing the CORE exam – if anyone is experiencing difficulty ANY other pilot can assist you or if that fails let CMDRs and TC CS know, otherwise all that will happen is that we scratch our heads as the same MWE entry is seen again and again – “promote on completion of…”.

Standing orders remain, participate in trivia and WARD comps where able or interested, fly where willing – our ability to run flight comps relies on more than 1 or 2 pilots being able to take part as it becomes little more than an auto-medal every round. If enough of you are willing to compete then I’m happy to support, otherwise if there’s anything else you need from me please don’t hesitate to use mail, Telegram, or more rarely IRC.

Operational Picture

'So our Commander was a Commodore, for a bit, then back to a Commander. And another Commander is now the Commodore… does that mean he’s going to be a Commander in 3 weeks then? No? Right, I get it… and so Kappa and Sin CMDR’s are ex-Commodores as well, and one of them was a Command Staff officer twice… but now he’s a General. I don’t get it.'

In Closing

New year and hopefully a fresh start, with RtF on the horizon as the goal to work towards . I firmly believe that we can perform well by the time we get there, but it may make for a bumpy and occasionally difficult journey. We’re a small squadron, but I know all of you have the potential to perform when you need to. We may be bigger in a while, we may not, but we’ll see where we stand next month and go from there. Onwards and upwards.
