TAC Report # 4 (2016-09-18)

This report was submitted by TAC/AD Xavier Sienar/CS-6/VSDII Sinister

A Corellian Corvette was pulled from hyperspace mere kilometers from a furious battle. The captain looked on as an odd assortment of fighters pushed through the immense dogfight ensuing in front of a Victory-class Star Destroyer; six TIE Bombers, two experimental dual turbolaser TIE Fighters, a heavily modified Assault Gunboat, and an E-Wing. An interdictor loomed in the distance, preventing the corvette from quickly leaving via hyperspace. Knowing that he was entering the territory of the Emperor's Hammer, the captain attempted to hail the Star Destroyer, but got no response. Bringing his attention back to the viewport, he saw the two experimental TIEs break off from the rag tag group and start towards the Corvette. In a panicked motion, he switched the comms to broadcast on all frequencies. "This is Rotan Vixrebug, captain of the Corvette Hammerhead. I have no part to either side of this conflict. I'm just here for a course correction on a trade mission. I am not engaging anyone and request peaceful passage through this system."

The nervous, raspy voice was like that of an angel as it fell on the ears of Xavier Sienar, inside the cockpit of his E-Wing. Sienar could not believe his luck as he dialed in the response frequency on his comm unit. "Captain Vixrebug, does your ship have functional long range comms? These Rebel raiders have taken down ours with some sort of pulse wave. We need to contact our support units for reinforcements."

After a long pause, the captain responded. "Long range comms are functional... I have a feeling I'm going to regret this, but what is the frequency?"

"Four-nine-delta-seven-nine-two, with Imperial class-2 transcoding. Tell them the Sinister has been ambushed and give them our coordinates." Sienar noticed some of the B-Wings shift their course as he finished. "Gunboat and X2s, B-Wings are targeting the Hammerhead. Guard our new friend." Sienar switched to torpedoes and fired at the B-Wing leading the charge on the Sinister. "Bombers, targets are in range. Fire when locked."

A volley of missiles burst toward the oncoming B-Wings. A large portion of them exploded into wreckage as the escorting A-Wings shot past to engage the Imperial forces. Two of the slow TIE Bombers were quickly taken down as the A-Wings met the group. The blaster tips on Sienar's E-Wing glowed hot white as the lasers pulsed in their overcharged setting, knocking the shields down on one of the A-Wings in only a few shots. Sienar switched over to ion cannons in order to cripple the A-Wing. "Hands off Red 4. I'm saving him for interrogation."

This month's crowning achievement of the Tactical Office was the long delayed release of what are now the very first Corporate Division TIE battles. With the second mission in the series corrupted to the point that it crashed the majority of the mission editors in my arsenal, it took me several days to transfer over the mission data to new files. The debriefing and map animations could not be salvaged and had to be recreated from scratch. Other missions throughout the series had minor errors that needed to be tidied up, but finally, exactly seven years from its submission date the TIE version of "CDNG: Paper Round" was released to the Mission Compendium. Unfortunately, I initially forgot to include vital files in the EHM packages, but that has now been resolved.

We also had a bit of a down note with the resignation of FA Elwood the Brave from the TAC Staff due to time constraints and his obvious priority of being TCCOM. Woody was one of the fastest Surveyors and has reported on eleven missions since I began my tenure as TAC. To honor his service to the TAC Office, FA Elwood the Brave received a Medal Of Tactics - Blue Hammer.

HA Dempsey is at it again. Submitting an XvT and TIE version of "Jeequi Encounter". So now, other than the final check of RA Hawkins's "X-Wing in TIE Fighter: Tour 2", the battle queue consists entirely of her work.

Both FA Elwood's resignation and HA Dempsey's domination of the queue leaves me with a need for more Tactical Surveyors, primarily for XvT. Any pilots interested in testing battles before release or corrections, contact me at tac@emperorshammer.org.

In conjunction with my duties as acting SCO, I tested and resolved two bug reports on the TIE95 EHSP. These reports, dealing with the TIE Phantom causing crashes, appear to be because of user error in patch installation as they could not be duplicated.

Competitions

Every Single Player mission flown wins a point, whoever has most points at the end of the month wins.
Each mission only counts once for the year, but missions flown in previous years can be reflown. The Kill Board statistics on the TC website are final.
IS-GW/SW/BW for top 3 monthly, at the end of the year the top 4 pilots win IS-PW/GW/SW/BW.

January Winners
IS-GW: GN Coranel Both
IS-SW: GN Jarek La'an
IS-BW: COL Golbez Harvey

With a last second push, Coranel Both steals January's top spot from Jarek La'an.

The Seven Year Glitch
It has been 7 years since the TIE version of "CDNG: Paper Round" was submitted to the TAC Office. Now, seven days after their release, member of the TIE Corps can compete for the top seven scores in a competition lasting seven weeks.

Until March 21st, simply fly both of the newly released TIE-CD 1 and TIE-CD 2, and submit your pilot files as usual. Winners will be determined by their combined score across both battles.

The top laserless score earns an IS-GW, second earns an IS-SW, third through seventh will receive an IS-BW.
