Epsilon Squadron
EPSILON SQUADRON WEEKLY REPORT #1
EPSILON CMDR: CM Hav Antiel
REPORT DATE: 18 January 2016
SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER
    Greetings pilots.

With two full weeks under my belt as Epsilon commander, I'm starting to get the hang of things. I'm getting to know the fine members of this squadron, and I've had direct communication with all but two pilots so far.

The first week of Epsilon Weekly Trivia is over, and I'm sad to say that there were only two participants. I'm changing the conditions this week to include 1 point for an incorrect answer and 2 points for a correct answer. I hope this will increase participation. This week's theme is TIE Variants.

Also, please be reminded of my *ahem* secret request for a droid. With so many of Epsilon's pilots grounded at the moment, I'm sure you can find some spare time to scavenge resources on the Hammer. After all, it's only a matter of time before we're assigned a new Wing Commander and that kind of "resourceful" behavior will not be tolerated.
NEWS
  • For his exceptional efforts as Epsilon Squadron Commander, GN Dunta Polo has been awarded the Grand Order of the Emperor. This prestigious honor has only been bestowed to 43 pilots in the TC's history. GN Polo may now display his ceremonial dagger on his dress uniform. Congratulations, General!

  • I have only received one submission for the CMDR Antiel Needs a Droid competition. And that submission was from HA Dempsey, the only person (IC) who isn't supposed to know about the competition. The template is very easy to use:
    R2-unit Template
Just save the template and use the "fill" tool in any graphics editing software (even MS Paint!) to change the colors, then send me the image. You can also participate by suggesting a name for the droid. The winning design and name each earn an IS-BR.

  • The first week of Epsilon Weekly Trivia is in the books, and CM Witcher is the winner with three correct guesses. Here are the answers to last week's trivia theme, Planets (and technically one moon) of Star Wars.

COMPETITIONS

I will summarize competitions that apply to Epsilon in this section, but you should always check the Competitions Center and Combat Center for full details on all competitions.

  1. CMDR Antiel Needs a Droid! (Part 1) - Submissions due 23 January - This is a simple graphics and naming contest. Use the R2 unit template to design CMDR Antiel's new astromech assistant, and/or suggest a name for the droid (ex. R2-A0 / "Fonzie"). Once all submissions are in, Hammer pilots will vote for the winning design and name. The winning design and name will earn an IS-BR for the pilots responsible.

  2. Epsilon MP Ace of the Month - Until 31 December - Fly PvP missions on approved platforms and send me your screenshots and totals each week. The Epsilon pilot with the most multiplayer victories in the month will receive an IS-BW.

  3. Epsilon SP Ace of the Month - Until 31 December - At the end of each month, the Epsilon pilot who flies the most single player missions will receive an IS-BW. Each mission flown is worth one point for the purposes of this competition. Missions with high scores are worth two points.

  4. Epsilon Weekly Trivia - Weekly - Every day, I'll send a Star Wars-related trivia question via email. Respond individually, and the pilot with the most points each week will receive an IS-BR. Additionally, the pilot with the highest score at the end of the month will earn an IS-SR.

  5. Epsilon Scholar of the Month - Until 31 December - Flex those Epsilon brains! Complete IWATS Courses (double points for a perfect score). The Epsilon pilot with highest score at the end of the month is awarded an IS-BR.

CLOSING COMMENTS
I'd like to reiterate my goals as Squadron Commander:
  1. Increase participation
  2. Encourage and have fun
  3. Rediscover Epsilon's personality
I've heard from a few Epsilon pilots that issues with our flying platforms are limiting their flight time. There are two solutions: (1) create opportunities for non-flying participation, and (2) help them sort out those pesky platform issues. I've created three non-flying competitions for Epsilon pilots, and there are many other fun comps available to Hammer and TC pilots as well. When it comes to platform issues, I know the feeling. I was helping Epsilon chalk up Squadron Citations before my laptop was stolen last year. Since then, I have been unable to get TIE 95 to run properly on my new machine. I would love it if we could work together to help get Epsilon's pilots back in the sky. If you're willing and able to help me and my pilots get their favorite games running again, we could certainly use your help.

Regarding Epsilon's personality and pride: I spent some time talking to MAJ Ulrich Drachen on Telegram this week, and I've seen firsthand the mindset behind "Kappa HYPE!" It seems like MAJ Drachen must post the Kappa Hype! logo at least once each day on Telegram, and his pride is contagious. When VA Plif uncovered a reference to Kappa Brew Gold in an old TC report, MAJ Drachen got right to work creating a comp to increase his pilots' morale and sense of identity.

The last thing I want to do is copy another squadron, but I do think Kappa and MAJ Drachen are doing something worth emulating. (Don't get me wrong; I'm willing brew a keg of Epsilager for my pilots.) I want to find what we have in common. We have a nice mix of true veterans and relative newbies flying for Epsilon, but I'll bet we share something beyond our squadron assignments. Thoughts, pilots?

Happy hunting,
