COO REPORT #12

FROM: COO/RA Hawkins
DATE SUBMITTED: 20th December 2015

TALES FROM THE AGGRESSOR

From Small Seeds
"Rear Admiral!" a vocie called from the sensor control section of the bridge. "We have detected an unidentified convoy crossing our borders."

"Details?" Hawkins replied.

"At this range, hard to say. Ships are all small to medium sized, loose formation. They don't look like millitary vessels."

"Divert one of the tertiary patrols to identify. Eta should be sufficient. Change course to close on the convoy." Hawkins commanded. He listened as the bridge crew busied themselves complying with his orders. He would have preferred to use a front line squadron - Delta's reconnaisance skills would have been useful, or Kappa could have escorted the convoy either out of EH space or into the nearest impound dock. Tempting as it was, it was far beneath either of those squadrons. The old Kappa pilot that he had once been traitorously suggested "Well, maybe not beneath Delta..." but he hushed that voice. this was official business, not barrak room banter. He instead filed the comment away to bait Silvius with later.

Situations like this were a common annoyance. Space was vast, and passing through even a highly millitarized zone such as the terriotiry controlled by the Empror's Hammer could often be done with limited chance of detection. This convoy was likely just cutting corners, taking a short trip through the fringes of EH space in order to save a few credits on fuel. Nine hundred and ninety nine times out of a thousand it was some corporation trying to avoid shipping tax whilst at the same time saving fuel. They were usually handed a very hefty fine, and left with the odd scortch mark as a reminder of who they were trying to get by. Still, they kept coming. Perhaps it was time to send a stronger message.

"Sir, report coming in from Eta," the Communication Officer called, "Ships are all transport class, minimal to no armament. Scans indicate the cargo are all personnel - wookies, in fact. They..." The officer paused, listening. His face soured at what he was hearing.

"Report," ordered Hawkins.

"Sir, we are being contacted by the convoy, but they are refusing to use Basic. Their howlling is unintelligable. Running it through the translator." The officer worked at his console. A moment later he turn to Hawkins. "Sir, they claim to be a convoy of pilgrims, returning to Kashyyyk for the Life Day celebrations. They request permission to pass on."

"A little late to ask for permission to enter Emperor's Hammer space after they have already entered it, is it not?" Hawkins replied, irritably.

"Sir, Eta's scan data has been recieved. They corroborate the communication from the convoy," an officer from the sensor section added.

"A sizeable convoy of wookies illegally entering Hammer's space, claiming to be nothing more than pilgrims. A force of wookies that size could no doubt pose a threat to outlying Imperial settlements, would you not say?" Hawkins asked, almost little more than thinking out loud.

"Well... yes, Sir." the scanner officer replied. "However, Eta's scan show no evidence of weaponry aboard the transports. They do appear to be nothing more than Life Day pilgrims, Sir." Hawkins though for a moment. This officer was showing a suprising desire to give his opinions unrequested. This would need to be addressed. HE had a point, however. Hawkins agreed with the officer's assessment. Strong as they were physically, this convoy posed no threat to the Emperor's Hammer.

Was that enough to allow them to pass through Imperial space? It was almost Life Day, after all. Or was it time to take a stronger stance against such reckless incursions into our territory? Send a clear message to the whole sector that any such disreguard for Imperial regulations would be strongly confronted.

"I think our course is clear, don't you?" Hawkins asked the forthright officer.

"It is, Sir?" The officer asked.

"It is." Hawkins replied.
