ISD-II Hammer
Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.007
Report date: March 22, 2015

Introduction...

High Admirl Dempsey stood on the bridge of the Imperial-II class Star Destroyer and stared out the transparisteel viewport. In the distance, a nearby star was bathing her ship in its light.Against the light it was hard to see the TIE fighters that were out there. Inside she smiled. She wondered how the Hammer pilots enjoyed being back in those old rustbuckets. No shields, no warheads, just two laser cannons and a paper thin hull to protect them from vacuum and certain death. Perhaps after a few weeks in these things, they'd step it up a bit. Well, perhaps if they showed their remorse by participating in the last round of her wargames, she'd give them back their TIE Defenders and Missile Boats. Only time will tell though...

Commodore's speech

It's been another one of those weird weeks. Participation in the March Mayhem competition is - as you might have guessed - disappointingly low at its best. Unfortunately, I can offer no reasons for this, but I do intend to find out. Especially given the many medals that were earned this week! Last week we had 11 pilots earning at least 1 medal, this week the counter stands at SIXTEEN. It confuses the heck out of me,that's for sure.

The last of the February MSE medals have arrived, and I'm glad to see that several pilots showed enough activity to earn a shiny in the evaluation, even more so because two pilots managed to earn themselves a Bronze Star of the Empire! The Imperial Security Medals and Palpatine Crescents may be a bit less prestigious, but they, too, show excellent activity! Keep it coming, folks, and we'll do this again in two weeks' time!

Best news perhaps this week was the promotions of LCM Hellionexus to Commander, and SL Varis Palharris to Lieutenant. I hope to see your names on a promotion request again very soon!

As usual, below you will find an overview of all medals awarded this week. There's three notes to go with it.

  • First, I may have missed some. I noticed that I only got half the e-mails for the Medals of Communication that were awarded. I dug through the records but I may have missed a few.
  • Second, you'll notice that some pilots got two medals, or two moCs. That's because the January MShipE (still an annoying abbreviation, but there's no better :) was processed without an MSE from Epsilon. Since then, GN Polo has submitted that too, and so these medals were awarded as well.
  • Thirdly, no, I did not fly 115+ SC matches this week. I flew a lot, and a lot of them are still queued, but this is backlash from the gigantic queue LCM Hellionexus caused at the start of the month. Because the COO Office only approves a certain amount at a time to avoid overloading the system, everyone else has had to wait for their LoCs for a bit :)

Which brings me to scheduled maintenance on the TC website. For the past month or so, we've been planning to change the mailing system a bit. The idea is to no longer send out an e-mail with every single LoC earned, but instead to queue them up, and then at some point send out a single e-mail with the amount of LoCs earned per pilot. I still need ti figure a few things out and get it coded up. That, though, might take a little while, but it is coming.

On a personal high note, I'm getting ever closer to that elusive Tan rank in the Combat ratings. Once achieved, I shall be the only pilot in this fleet to have achieved the highest rank in both the Combat Ratings and the Fleet Commander's Honor Guard. Yay me :) On a side note, I still haven't the faintest idea why someone chose Tan for that rank. Tan is what you get when you lie in the sun, I don't get it. If someone can explain this to me I'd appreciate it!

Which reminds me, because the system doesn't mail this stuff, I completely missed the fact that we actually already have a new Tan pilot within our ranks. For a long time, the elusive COL Brucmack was the only one to have achieved that feat, but then came a Hammer pilot, MAJ Landon Cruise. All of those of course are no longer on active duty, leaving only a Warrior pilot with the highest rank, LC Plif as well as the SOO, VA Elwood the Brave. As of this month though, we also have a Hammer pilot there, our very own CM Hellionexus. Congrats on this astounding achievement!

Lastly, I'd like to point your attention to a new competition, Pazaak Round 2. It's not often a competition is run that involves a non-TC platform, but since this is a SW card game, why not :) It's fun, doesn't take forever, and it's free to play online. If you need some hints on how to play, let me know!

    Dempsey's Weekly Riddles

Every week, the report will have a riddle. First pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins. Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR. A 25th victory will give you an IS-PR!

This week's riddle: Four men sat down to play together. They don't play for the fun of it, but for money. At the end of the evening, they tallied their scores, and everyone had earned money, not one of them had lost any. Explain how that can be.

Last week's winner: LC John T. Clark

Current standings: VA Woody: 4; LC Clark: 2; HA Bonini, COL La'an, CPT Fenn, CM Jast, LCM Doc: 1

    Hammer on Recon

Submit your StarConflict screenshots to me. For Domination and Beacon Hunt, the highest number of captures wins. For Team Battle and Combat recon, the highest number of "kills" wins, with assists counting for half a kill (rounded up). Submissions not earning a medal will earn an activity point. First place wins an IS-SW, 2nd a IS-BW (with 2 submissions or more, otherwise IS-BW for first). Submissions earn 4 pts for 1st, 3 pts for 2nd, 2 pts for 3rd and 1 pt for others. At the end of the month, the top 3 MP flyers will earn an IS-GW, IS-SW and IS-BW. 10 activity points wins an IS-BW and every 50th activity point will earn an IS-SW. Tie breakers: kills for Domination and Beacon Hunt, Captain Kill or pure kills for Team battle and Combat Recon.

    Last week's results:

  • Domination: HA Dempsey (6/12), COL Pellaeon (6/8), MAJ Iceman (2)
  • Team Battle: HA Dempsey (24), COL Pellaeon (22), MAJ Iceman (16), LCM Doc (13)
  • Beacon Hunt: COL Pellaeon (5), MAJ Iceman (4), HA Dempsey (3), LCM Doc (2)
  • Combat Recon: COL Pellaeon (18), MAJ Iceman (6)

    Current March totals:

  • COL Pellaeon: 43 pts

  • IS-BR will be awarded for participation in all 5 events

    Week 4: Captions
Below is a semi-funny Star wars picture. Well, it becomes funny when you add your own caption. One entry per person, funniest one wins. Please make sure the one you come up with isn't readily available on Google...

    Monthly: fiction
The ISD-II Hammer is preparing to engage a convoy of freighters protected by two well armed Nebulon-B2 class frigates. The objective is to seize the freighter's valuable cargo. All the Hammer's pilots are in their cockpits, and the squadrons are ready to launch when the command is given. Stormtroopers and pilots have boarded their transports, and on the bridge of the Star Destroyer, the Commodore sits in the Command Chair. One more minute and the attack begins.

Write a fiction that details your role in the battle. You can write it from your character's perspective, but you don't have to, you can pick another character as well (but not someone else in the TC). Fiction should be at least 750 words and submitted in Word or pdf format no later than March 31st! Fictions will be graded based on grammar and spelling (10% - have someone proofread your submission if possible), entertainment and creativity (50%), realism (25% - Star Wars realism...) and continuity (15%).

    Wrapping up

Mixed feelings again this week. Activity is at a decent level, but I'm not getting the participation I'd like in a ship-wide competition. You can expect an in quiry into this when the month is over, and I cannot guarantee random spacings as the outcome of that.
