RHO WEEKLY SQUADRON REPORT #70

REPORTING OFFICER: Captain Adom 'fr0Zen' Wietu, Squadron Commander
DATE SUBMITTED: 11.04.2021

SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER

('Relieved? Overjoyed really,' Captain Wietu comments to Mix, the Flight Deck Mechanic. The Captain leans forward in his seat behind the Squadron Commander's desk, and continues, 'In truth, both are true.  Certainly it has been an honor to be Commander of the TCCOM's Escort Squadron for the previous year, but nobody tells you about all the extra work that comes with that.'

'Such as?' quips Mix wryly, already quite sure of much of the response. The mechanic pulls a flask from his overcoat and drinks deeply.  The sting of Chalquilla permeates the small room. He offers it to the Captain, who accepts and finishes the remaining contents.

'Every flight plan requires two additional days of planning for security review up and down the chain of command.  Surprise inspections of our craft by the Admiralty at ungodly hours those top brass like to keep bright and early. Not to mention of course all the extra precautions we had to take from sabotage earlier this year,' the Captain replies.

'And that's just for starters, right?' Mix questions rhetorically and with heavy sarcasm.

'I would need a lot more than that one swig of swill, that's for sure. In fact, go fetch a bottle and this report will go a lot faster. Or .. slower that feels faster.'

Wietu cracks his knuckles and turns towards the keypad.)

The Commander begins composing this week's message on the terminal.

Greetings, as per ever, my Comrades in Black.

Another major chapter of the Emperor Hammer's Calendar Year is now closed with Raise the Flag completed.  While every squad deserves to celebrate a successful event, what the celebration means is something unique for each.   The top three squads can certainly celebrate their wealth of activity and skill in making the most of points available. The lowest scoring squadrons can celebrate their opportunity ahead to build and compare to next year for progress.

And there's our final spot - 9th overall among all squadrons, but 6th and firmly in the middle of the tier of Squadrons with solid performances that show room for growth but also a place of pride in our accomplishments this year.

Rho Squadron has had immense turnover in membership over the previous year - as noted in previous reports. What we know now is all the efforts squadron wide for building a new team are not just paying off but building strong momentum.

So consider these words a wrap on the rebuilding phase, confirmation that we are on our way to greater things, and a celebration of a great performance with our collective haul of 3466 points in October - including most impressively a rich handful of placements in the top 10 in several bonus competitions.

You have all been sent a bottle of Chalquilla and a pack of Wookiee Cookies as a token of my appreciation.

Until a new Emperor is seated and the Rebellion is forever crushed!

SQUADRON NEWS
  • Huge congrats are due to our friendly rivals over in Tempest squad for claiming the title of this year's TCCOM's Escort Squadron during Raise the Flag with an incomprehensibly high scoring result.  I will have to figure out how to update the banner for these reports since our tour of duty with that title is now complete.
  • Medals for October activity are in the works.  The range of participation is definitely up so we will have our highest rate of pilots receiving a medal during my time in this role as Squad Commander. Very, very proud.
  • A special congratulations to LCM FamePlane for being voted as the top Support Pilot for the Squadrons Championship League's All Star Team.
  • The Squadron Activity Report below includes all activity since my last report on 10/21, so the data is from 10/21 - 11/04, including the most recent submissions that have been approved.
COMPETITIONS

The full list of current competitions can be found here in the Competitions Center.

Most of these competitions take very little effort, and even just participating is enough to count as points towards monthly merit medals.  Always be sure to inform your Flight Leader of the competitions in which you participate so that your Flight Leader can be sure that you get credit each month.

So What Else this Week?

Two reminders!

First your current Project Sovereign account balance:

  • fr0Zen: 2137 credits
  • FamePlane: 4244 credits
  • Westric Davalorn: 724 credits
  • Jarion Renalds: 7700 credits
  • Brent Hebris: 5073 credits
  • Ossusplayz: 4120 credits
  • RedTaz: 7865 credits
  • Cray 'Teash' Xerious: 4200 credits
  • Kevinbackroom: 4120 credits

For those paying attention report to report, these balances have not changed since last update. The latest news is that the Project leadership decided to pause the activity during Raise the Flag and they aim to get all details caught up now that the biggest competition of the year has concluded.

Second, I want to highlight the availability and flight preferences survey that Davalorn has put together for the Squadron. Please complete that quick survey available here.  While this survey is not required, we do hope to receive responses from CPT Jarion Renalds, LT Fern Domgra, LT kevinbackroom, LCM Cray Xerious, and LT Brent Hebris.

CLOSING COMMENTS

Standards for communication to receive Medals of Communication are increasing.  Whereas the past several months, any participation in communication was something I deemed valuable, now that we have matured as a group I will be looking for meaningful participation with the group and with team-building to represent what behaviors are awarded Medals of Communication.

To better qualify the above change in standards, I will be expecting members to initiate conversations in our Discord subspace comms network as a minimum, and will no longer be rewarding simply responding to my outreach in private direct messages.

The valuable team that we have built together is now seasoned enough to begin being rewarded for valuing each other without my influence.
