ISD-II Challenge
Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.021
Report date: January 3rd, 2021

Prologue

Dempsey had been sitting in her office for a few hours now. She wasn't doing much, really. Just catching up on some holos she'd been following. Even in times like this, the entertainment industry never stopped making bad shows. But occasionally, there was something she liked. She didn't have a lot of time to watch them though, so at a time like this, when there wasn't much going on, she liked to catch up on the few that she did.

The last report she'd seen had informed here that all repairs after the last battle had been completed. The ship was at peak efficiency again, and all the starfighters had received whatever maintenance they needed. You'd almost think it was too quiet.

At some point in the past, it would have unsettled her. Everytime it was too quiet, all hell would break loose not soon after. Or so she had thought. But she had learned that sometimes, too quiet was just regular quiet, and all would be well. There wouldn't be a fleet of Rebel MonCal cruiser coming out of hyperspace, there wouldn't be some disastrous form of sabotage. No, it would be normal quiet.

And that would give her some highly needed time to relax.

Commodore's speech

Well, a new year has begun, and I hope everyone has their plans laid out before them. I know I have :)

one of these is to go through the X-wing vs TIE Fighter compendium this year. I haven't flown XvT for a while now, it'll be nice to get back to it. I'm even pondering the creation of some new material for the Battle Center. It's been a few years at least since I gave that a serious try.

Last month was quiet, I hope things change soon. Then again, I've seen the first draft of the Squadron Evaluations, and it's looking good!

As you might have noticed, I threw in a little one day picture competition on the 31st, and we had a few participants. Not a lot unfortuantely, but I guess people were busy. Kudos to GN Pickled Yoda for somehow managing to get every single one correct.

For those who missed it: the TC CS has appointed not one, but two people to the position of Warden of the Archives. Our very own COL Stryker joins forced with CPT Genie. Their first task will be to create a new TC logo, which can be used without copyright issues possibly arising. Unfortunately, our current logo is still too reminiscent of the official LA stuff. Let's see what they can come up with.

I've also heard through the grapevine that I may or may not have won a fiction competition. I don't recall ever doing that before, so let's not dwell too much on the part where I was the only contender.

The TC CS is discussing the future of competitions within the TC. It's been mentioned in a few of the Discord meetings now. Reason being that last year the number of competitions was excessive at some points, and in my personal opinion, they have a point, especially with the ones that run all year long. I was already pondering what to do with ship-wide flying competitions, so this has given me some extra food for thought. Unfortunately, I have yet to come up with a solid answer. I hope to improve on that situation within this month.

Meanwhile, all Challenge commanders are encouraged to come up with a squadron competition for their squadron for February. Try to stay away from the 'whoever flies most missions' stuff. I'll be interested to see what you can come up with. Note that it doesn't have to be something that lasts all month, you could have a little something for one or two weeks as well. Not all competitions have to be grand or long. Simple, fun and short are the keywords here.

This week has also seen a number of rank promotions come through. Congrats on the promotion to Lieutenant Commander, LCM Skyhigh. And also kudos to the Sub-lieutenants who have earned their first real promotion: the newly minted LT Cupcake, LT Gaethje Maia and LT Mosey. Our other Sls are working hard on their own promotions, which shouldn't be long now!

Lastly, there's been some reshuffling of pilots within squadrons. It will be interesting to see what effect that has!

And really lastly this week: a special mention for COL Silwar Naiilo. I can't recall the last time I saw anyone under my command awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. Well done!

    Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots

Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins. Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.

    Current screenshot:

Last week's winner: GN Elwood the Brave

Current standings: GN Elwood the Brave, COL Mell Kerrigan, LC Phalk Sturm, LC Kadon Beir: 2pt, LT Dougal Caelleigh, LCM Richlet, CPT EvilGrin, CPT Kalve Ryder, MAJ Talon Jade, COL Silwar Naiilo, COL Stryker: 1pt

    Wrapping up

The new year has begun, and it promises to be a good one. We've seen many squadrons recommissioned this year, and even a new Star Destroyer being pulled out of the mothballs. Let's see if we can take this one step further, and actually find ourselves a Mon Calamari to house the Alphabet squadrons. We'll need a lot more pilots before that happens though, so get recruiting!
