ISD-II Challenge
Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.006
Report date: september 6, 2020

Commodore's speech

Denys Elara knocked on the door of the Commodore's office of the mighty ISD-II Challenge. Strange as it was, she already felt at home here. That said, she didn't anticipate much joy over the next half hour. After she heard something from inside the office, assuming it to be an 'enter', she opened the door and stepped inside.
'Ah, welcome,' Commodore Dempsey said. 'I trust you bring me great news?'
'Well....' Denys began. She paused for a second to see the frown on the Commodore's face appear. 'Let me have it,' she said. 'There's been a few memos with not so good news,' Denys began. 'To start, the ship-wide battle games you announced. You had planned on issuing an Iron Star with Platnium Ribbon, but that request has been denied. There's a memo from the TCCOM wondering where the MSE medal recommendations for July are.' Dempsey grunted. 'This is why I need a Wing Commander,' she said. 'Take care of all that for me, will you?' Denys nodded. 'And there's one more, but not from the higher ups. The other day, while walking through the corridors, someone saluted me and called me Admiral.' Dempsey looked up. 'Isn't that how it's supposed to be?' I usually get saluted when I run into people too.' 'It is, but, erm, I'm not an Admiral.' 'So where did they get the idea that you were?' Dempsey wondered. 'Well, sir, it seems to have been mentioned in your previous report.' Dempsey sighed. 'I'll take care of it.' 'Thank you sir. And while you're at it, it seems the Imperial computer systems are still unaware of my existence. I'd like to take care of some stuff, but that's hard if I don't exist.' 'I'll fix it,' Dempsey said. 'Please tell me you've got some good news too.' 'Well, I did notice that we're racking up quite a few points for this Raise the Flag thing.'

Now if I can only let my Wing Commander to all my administrative chores for me, perhaps some of you would have received some July medals already. As it is, I'm still trying to figure out which ones were and which ones were not recommended. I do hope to get that sorted today. Meanwhile, August has also come and gone, and I'm eagerly anticipating the commanders of my squadrons to recommend even more of those for their pilots. Several have been done already, not all. I do hope to see all that done by the end of the week.

The big news of course is Raise the Flag has begun. I managed to score a few points myself between work and sleep, and even managed to do the extra bonus competition puzzle with a disastrous time. Well, at least I didn't need 15 minutes to do so, even if I missed that mark by only a second or two. Should be enough to give me participation points. Fortunately, some of use have done better at earning the Challenge points. I'm not in the loop as to current standings, but I've seen a lot of BSF emails come through, with a good number of high scores as well. Kudos to LT Marek Ny`lrfa and LC Phalk Sturm for those. Keep it up!

Those of you who are paying attention will have seen I neglected to start the big competition for the ISD Challenge which I announced in my last report. I was about to do so when I noticed Raise the Flag had started. I had completely missed/forgotten the bit where that was moved to September. Since there's no use in running two huge competitions side by side, I've requested mine to be moved to November.

On the good news front: after my last report it didn't take long to fill the last Flight Leader position and so all command-level positions on this ship are taken. To be honest, this is the first time since I got assigned to the Challenge 13 years ago that this has happened. I'm dumbfounded :)

The Training Officer has released an updated version of the Squadron Management IU course. That means SM/4 has been pulled, and the new course has been aptly named Squadron Management 5 I would recommend to all commanders to take the exam, and see what's changed. I will be doing so myself as well, and I recommend all pilots to do so as well. Remember, the course is mandatory if you wish to someday command a squadron yourself.

Lastly, with much thanks to GN Berkana, the Challenge has its own mailing list. All Challenge pilots should have received an email this week telling them they were added. If not, let me know!

Lastly (for real this time): there's a lot of Lieutenants on this ship. The commanders of your squadrons (and me) would like to see you earn yourself promotions to Lieutenant Commander. However, to do so, you must have completed the TC-CORE IU exam. I urge you all to take the exam and learn more about the TC! If you need any assistance, both your commander and myself will be able to help you out.

    Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots

Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessaarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins. Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR. A 25th victory will give you an IS-PR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.

    Current screenshot:

Last week's winner: LC Phalk Sturm

Current standings: CPT Drake Starfire: 3pt, LC Phalk Sturm, GN Berkana: 1pt

    Wrapping up

Raise the Flag is moving, and we're getting some points. A few of us are doing really good, but a lot of use unfortunately not. I would like to see every single pilot contribute at least 5 points to our total!
