SQUADRON COMMANDER'S FLIGHT LEADER'S FICTION

This week's fiction, 'The Haunted Dragon,' was written by Rho Flight Leader CM Drake Starfire.

“The Haunted Dragon” by CM Drake Starfire

First it started as cold sweats. He woke up every night horrified, pressure in his chest forcing him to hold his breath. Then came the nightmares, haunted and twisted memories faded with guilt and time playing over and over again into the mild of a frustrated and already angst filled Dark Jedi. The looming presence of the mad Sith Lord Muz Ashen, and the banishment given by Supreme Justice Jac Cotelin too blind to see his mad King. His actions caused the pain and suffering, but it was too late to change anything. This is no way to live! Even his thoughts felt hopeless. At first he thought it was grief, loss of a friend, even guilt... but soon he realized it was something much worse... fear.

Drake knew he messed up, but that he wasn’t in the wrong. The boy was not strong enough, not even close, just foolish with an overwhelming sense of misplaced Justice. They were after him, at least if he didn’t make himself scarce. It was on the run and don’t be seen, no more friends for the one who threw it all away. It wasn't hard to disappear for a while, live on a farm in the outer rim, have a kid with a local, and STILL managing a business on the low over on Tatooine, crazy. But there’s a reason he came running back to the TIE Corps, apart from a well-timed flyer floating gently across the farmland for the TC in front of him in a desperate time of need to help him realize he couldn't hide forever...

TWO YEARS AGO

'We have our orders gentleman, we have word Muz Ashen has been performing sick experiments to seize power and become something more, so its our duty to put the bastard down. Load up on to your ships, we do this for Scholae Palatinae, and we do this for the brotherhood!' The blur haired dark knight lied through his teeth. Not only was this not approved or known about, but once word was out that he took clan forces to attack the Temple of a dark lord of the Sith, he would surely be in trouble if this mission is successful, which means he must kill Muz, but he has to prove his guilt. Otherwise this is just a very poor attempt at a throne grab, something Drake would never consider, so it’s probably a dumb move to go through with it anyways... so why is he going through with this? Drake feels an overwhelming sense of duty and justice along with his newly gained powers, he saw something in the Sith others didn’t, his madness, and once he found out what Muz was up to, he knew he had to try and stop it. It was risky and dangerous for a knight to launch an assault on a Sith temple, especially on his superiors. But without hesitation or fear, the soldiers who blindly trusted the Dragon with their lives, board their ships and awaited their commands... Not knowing it would be their last.

The small assault fleet arrive to a welcoming but intimidating temple, but Drake and his troops could feel something. Anticipation? But not from us, but from... them? Suddenly, a flash of green filled the skies and exploded onto Drake's landing craft. The battle had begun. With the surprise not being effective, word was sure to reach CSP that Drake had taken forces to attack the council, and maybe started another war after one had just ended. Even buried under wreckage and his dead comrades, he can still hear his troops being overwhelmed, men conditioned and trained by the fearless Sith, screaming in fear and agony as they get shredded by Temple defenses. Will it even be worth it. Each passing moment Drake regrets his arrogance for following his already clouded judgement. No plan of succession, no plans to take action and responsibility for what’s transpiring. Drake was going to gladly give the title to whoever wanted almost not caring if it fell into worse hands. Then why? Why go through with a half-baked plan? Because of a Sith’s sense of justice? No, maybe he just wanted the glory, the fame of being a Knight and facing your Lord and defeating him in battle. Ironically something Muz Ashen had done similarly when he was younger and more sane.

With one big shout, Drake pushed the wreckage off of him, with his anger for not doing the right thing, and for not knowing what that even is or what to do next. Surveying the battlefield, he finds himself his way in, and hopefully to Muz to end the conflict before CSP or members of the council arrive. Blaster bolts zoom towards the Dragon from up ahead, three bodyguards have noticed his awakening from the wreckage and began opening fire. Drake ignited his lightsaber, his blood-orange rage beamed out of his hilt. A representation of him, it is made from completely different parts, all seeming to not go together. However, assembled, it looks as though its been refined to look elegant as any lightsaber should be, just made from things it doesn’t want, to make something unreplaceable, and needed. The unique part of the lightsaber however is the pommel, made from the fang of a Krayt dragon. A powerful beast from his home world and also the birthplace of his hilt, Tatooine. When ignited, it becomes the weapon of peacekeepers and Sith alike, into the weapon of a beast, of a creature barely human, ancestry not of normality. Fitting for someone pretending to be human, losing more and more control of his emotions, actions, and the very thing that drives and fuels him... His rage. In the time it took him to shout, he flourished his blade and deflected the volley of bolts back at the guards, killing a couple and severely injuring one. Drake dashes for the entrance, not failing to throw the injured guard into the way of a temple turbo laser blast.

Drake searched the halls, he ran to search the places he expected him to be, ultimately finding his foe in his own personal chambers, showing that he does not seem phased by the young Knight's attack on his Temple. 'You've made a grave mistake coming here with? out the backing of even your superiors let alone the rest of the Brotherhood.' The Dark Lord calmly stated. 'Your punishment is unknown to me, as the Justice is on his way here along with the rest of your angry, very frustrated clan members.' He almost smiled.

'Looks like we got a timer on how long you got to live. My lord.' Drake raised his saber at his liege. 'For your foolishness and greed to become something more than yourself, I challenge you to abdicate the throne to the Sith! Justice is for you, not me Muz, I will become a hero for destroying you.' Drake almost seemed pleased with himself. All of a sudden, Muz smirked. Laughter exploded from the mad one as he said, 'You will fall. My boy, no one will remember you. I want you to know though, I almost remembered your name before I killed you.' It’s almost like he vanished into the shadows, drake scanned his surroundings. Like a sitting duck, he waits for his Mad King to make the first move.

NOT EVEN TWO SECONDS LATER

One swift motion and Drake was on the ground tumbling to stop himself from completely looking like an idiot, the second he gains his balance he is met with a rather large blast of electricity to the chest, knocking him down to the ground and winded, unable to get up. It was over, he was beaten so easily it made it hurt even more that Drake thought he had a chance, that he was doing any of this for good reason. Hess a Sith. Muz Ashen seemingly unimpressed takes a step back and looks to the doorway just as Jac Cotelin and company arrive to arrest the traitor. The Justice looked at Drake as the young Knight regained his composure, 'Not only do I strip you of your rank as Knight, but you are banished from the brotherhood. You are a fool for doing this alone, and not to mention to go against your very brothers, who you swore allegiance to. If you wish to live through you banishment, you must do your act of retribution to make up for your treachery and if you are to have any hopes of coming back after your sentence. You must kill your dear pal Calix Iberian. He was pardoned as a criminal to our society for the wrongs he has done because YOU vouched for him. Now YOU must kill him to correct all of your mistakes.' He stated disappointedly. Soldiers carry the prisoner of war into the room where they stand. 'Take up your saber and strike him down.' Muz declared, pleased with how events are transpiring, like pieces falling into place.

In what can only be described as the stupidest thing he could have done when being told to kill your friend or pretty much die yourself, he swung on buff ol' Jac Cotelin. And what did that brolic, really pale son of a b**** do? He dodged it. So the two pals in the biggest pile of s*** in their lives looked at each other and knew, they needed to get the heck out of here! They ran and fought their way through, in the most reckless, luckiest, most mind numbing manner, Drake and Calix commandeered the Justices ship and took off from the Temple, on the run and ready to start the craziest adventures.

When the Justice looked up to see his ship taking off, he didn’t hesitate to give the order to shoot it down. Drake knew the ship was going down before it happened, but when you’re not a supreme being and something is out of control, the last thing you want is to know something bad is going to happen. Then it hit him, no, I mean literally hit him, sending the ship crashing down for Drake's second crash of the day.

When the wreckage was searched, only the body of Calix Iberian was discovered, and the young banished Dark Jedi, was out in the galaxy. Trying to settle down and rethink his life and getting over his guilt until he was sitting down in his own bed terrified, knowing they were right behind him. And only the TIE Corps could protect him...
