Greetings Reservists of the TIE Corps!

This is Admiral Locke Setzer, captain of this retirement cruise ship we call the M/FRG Phoenix, here with another quarterly news blast to let you know some of the latest news with the TIE Corps that might be of interest to you. I'll also have the usual helpful information about re-enlistment, medal restoration, and other topics that may be useful if you ever decide to unretire and join back up for a spell. So, without further ado...

Current Events

Raise the Flag 2025 begins September 1st

raise-the-flag.png

September is almost upon us, when once again the entire TIE Corps will launch into our yearly competition for flagship/squadron/pilot supremacy, known as Raise the Flag!

For those unfamiliar with this competition, Raise the Flag determines the flagship of the TIE Corps, the TCCOM's Escort Squadron, and the TCCOM's Wingman for the next year. Like in past years, this is a competition that's primarily about activity. Pilots get points for just about any kind of regular activity, and whichever ship/squad/pilot has the most points by the end of the competition determines the flagship/escort squad/wingman.

Beyond regular flying activity, there will also be the usual art competitions, awarding points for fiction and art creations that match the prompt (with two different prompts occuring during the competition). There will also be a month long meme competition, providing another avenue for pilots to score points!

There's been some shifting around of the rules this year, with high score bonuses removed in favor of overall SP score bonuses, providing extra points for pilots that score over 25%, 50%, and 75% of the high score for a given mission. You can check out this year's rules here.

As usual, this competition will probably get a bit wild! But it should be fun, and I'm always excited to see what people manage to do each year!

Final Month of Service for Star Wars Hunters

Star-wars-hunters-2.png

Sadly, one of our supported platforms, Star Wars Hunters, will be going offline starting October 1st.

Star Wars Hunters has been a free third-person competitive arena combat for mobile (iPhone/Android) the Nintendo Switch that we've enjoyed supporting since day #1. While we're sad to see it go, the TIE Corps will continue to support it until it goes offline. With its final month of operation occuring during RtF, I expect we'll see a healthy amount of PvP and PvE matches for it!

All pay elements have been suspended, and all characters have been unlocked for all users. If you're interested in giving it a final spin before it closes out, now is the time!

X-Wing VM Special Edition Mod available for Early Access

800px-XWVM_Logo_NewB.png

XWVM is a new mod released (in alpha build) over the summer that provides a way to play classic X-Wing like never before! This facilitator app/mod requires players to have their own installation of X-Wing, but loads those classic resources in a new app that recreates the game play of the original game, only with modern graphics, effects, quality of life enhancements, and other modern tweaks that greatly enhance the experience of the original game!

It also comes equipped with a tool for creating your own custom droid, who can accompany you on missions that utilize an X-Wing or a Y-Wing. Not a bad perk for what is already a pretty stellar enhancement to a real classic!

While not technically a new gaming platform (yet), it's certainly been making its rounds in the TIE Corps! If it's something you're interested in checking out for yourself, head over to the XWVM ModDB page and give it a try!

Frequently Asked Questions

I often see the same questions from folks who are interested in returning to active service, or just happen to be curious about how the TIE Corps is working these days in general. Here's a collection of frequently asked questions and answers, tailored for folks presently chilling in the Reserves!

Question: Hey! I want to rejoin but I don't know how! What do I do?

Answer: Good question! It's pretty easy - you just have to contact the TCCOM, HA Plif! You can send him an email (tccom@emperorshammer.org) or you can message him on Discord (plif346) - whatever's easier for you! And if you're having any problems, you can always email me too - I'll help get things worked out for you.

Question: My profile on the TIE Corps website isn't right. I used to have medals! I used to have history! Now it's all gone and I'm sad.

Answer: Don't be sad! A lot of us old-timers have gone through this. Fortunately, there is a way to restore things! We don't have it at a place where we can do it automatically for everyone, but if you reach out to the TCCOM (via email at tccom@emperorshammer.org or Discord at plif346) and request a restoration, he can get that process started for you. We do ask for patience - it can take a bit of time. But have heart - your accomplishments are not lost to time! Please reach out to me too if you have any additional questions on this process.

Question: Are you going to make me rejoin to restore my records and stuff?

Answer: We want to be able to do this for everyone who asks for it. Admittedly, we are going to prioritize active members who need it over reservists. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't ask! We'd love to have you back, but making sure your past accomplishments are recorded and available is part of our duty to you, regardless of current activity status. You've earned it.

Question: Can I join the Discord server even if I'm in the Reserves?

Answer: Of course! You won't have access to all the channels, but you will be able to see and participate in most of the general chat channels, including the common hang-out spot, #plifs-asteroid-bar-and-grill. If you haven't joined the Discord server yet, the link to join is here.

Question: I don't really want to be active, but I do like doing the trivia and/or puzzle competitions, taking an Imperial University course, flying a mission, or doing some multiplayer once in a blue moon. Do I have to be in a squadron to do that stuff?

Answer: No! You're welcome to log in and submit your own BSFs for missions flown, take Imperial University/IWATS courses, do the trivia/puzzle competitions, report multiplayer matches... whatever you'd like to do. But... being in a squadron means that you can get awarded for that activity with merit medals. And there's a lot of squadron commanders out there who would be happy to have a pilot who just wants to contribute the odd bit of activity here and there. So don't feel like you have to be super active to be considered active - it's really okay to be an active member even when you can only do a little, just as long as you're having fun and keeping in touch.

Question: What are the supported platforms again?

Answer: See the list below!

  • TIE Fighter
  • X-Wing
  • X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
  • X-Wing Alliance
  • X-Wing Alliance Upgrade (MP only)
  • TIE Fighter Total Conversion
  • Star Conflict
  • Star Wars Battlefront (Classic) (2004)
  • Star Wars Battlefront (Classic) (2005)
  • EA Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
  • EA Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)
  • Star Wars: Hunters
  • Star Wars: Squadrons
  • Star Wars: Empire at War
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Destiny 2
  • Helldivers 2
There are still regular conversations about adding new platforms as well... I'll let you know anytime we start supporting something new!

Question: I never want to hear from you again! Can you stop emailing me?!?

Answer: Never's a long time, and I promise that we'll only send these out once every few months or so. But if you'd really prefer not to be in the Reserves, please reach out to me and I'll help get you reassigned to Inactive, which will deactivate your account and prevent any further communications.

That concludes our little quarterly Reservist update email! If you have any questions about re-joining the TIE Corps, events going on, or just want to talk and shoot the breeze about old times, please feel free to reach out! My email is locke.f.setzer@gmail.com and my Discord name is LockeSetzer. Please use whichever is most convenient for you. My door is always open!
