Newly minted Commander Matt Brass meandered down the hallway of the Warrior. He had only three months ago rejoined the Imperial Navy, thinking he was content in his position back at the bottom of his new squadron. A fine group of young pilots, emphasis on “young” for most of them, eager to serve the Empire in its relentless quest for order. Ever ready to follow their fearless leader into the fray.
Lieutenant Commander Vapen Van’an was that leader for over two years. He had seen these pilots through countless missions and they regularly and enthusiastically followed his guidance. Now that LC Van’an has decided to step back from Commander to become Flight Leader of Theta 3, an opportunity for new leadership presented itself.
Matt had spent every ounce of his free time in study, pouring over texts, craving every bit of information available to him. No one would ever take anything from him again. Or anyone.
“What am I doing, Lorna?” he thought to himself, “I only just returned, finally regaining some sense purpose again after Batuu. After…”
As he turned the corner sharply, lost in thought, Matt nearly bowled over a clearly annoyed member of the sanitation staff who offered him a nod of feigned courtesy.
He mumbled an apology, slowed for a moment, and once clear of the worker, Matt stopped. His eyes burned and his hands balled into tight fists causing the leather of his gloves to creak.
Anger.
Brass looked up and found himself at his destination. He entered the briefing room, this time with purpose and blazing hot determination.
“Pilots!”
The air seemingly sucked out of the room.
“Welcome. I am your new Commander, Matt Brass and we have a lot to cover. Let us begin…”

Obviously, our former CMDR, LC Vapen Van’an has decided to step back from things a bit to refocus his time on offline commitments. He will take the Theta 3 Flight Leader position. LCM Jai Thorne, who has been Vapen’s right hand, will remain XO for Theta Squadron.
Vapen will continue to be a voice of leadership and experience for our squad and his service of over two years as Commander of Theta Squadron is deeply appreciated. It is due to the great foundation laid in place by him that I feel comfortable to step into this role.
I’m honored to step in as the new Commander and aim to support all of our pilots to the best of my ability.

Commander's Office
At the close of this, my first Squadron Report, I’d like to remind you all that regular participation is a critical function of the EH. Allow me an excerpt, this from the Introduction of the TIE Corps Pilot Manual:
“…you are required to be acquainted with this document and the supplementary documents referred to within it in order to be accepted in the fleet as an active member…The most important thing to emphasize here is that the Emperor’s Hammer TIE Corps is a Star Wars gaming club. As such, one of its greatest aspects is the potential to meet and interact with fellow pilots who share a common interest while having fun with our favorite games.”
In order to continue to be considered an active member of Theta Squadron, there are a few things that need to happen.
• All Theta Squadron pilots should take and pass the TCCORE exam. This short exam ensures you are familiar with the TIE Corps Pilot Handbook and allows you to enjoy the full benefits of the Emperor's Hammer. Especially moving up through the ranks!
• Everyone needs to meet the minimum requirements for participation and contact. For Flight Members, that's one contact and at least one point on the board each month.
Again, from the TIE Corps Pilot Manual: “A (Flight Member) or (Flight Leader) should be doing more than just communicating with the CMDR once in a while, it’s expected that the pilot should be flying missions, participating in competitions, working on Wiki articles, taking IU courses, writing fiction, creating graphics, or showing an effort in some other way that shows a contribution to the Corps.”
If you feel like for any reason you are unable to meet these requirements, please contact me to be placed in a Voluntary Reserve status. Reserve pilots have no duties besides maintaining an active email address for occasional contact from the CAPT or the TCCS. Additionally, Reservists are removed from the TIE Corps mailing list but retain access to most of the Discord server.
To be clear, it is my belief that Theta Squadron should be a relaxed squadron with a great community first and foremost. I will be happy to facilitate flying, art, fiction, IU courses, or any other means of participation that you enjoy most, but we thrive when everyone is chatting on Discord and making connections with one another.
In closing, know that I am honored to pick up where Vapen left off and maintain Theta Squadron as a vibrant and active squadron. Together, we will take Theta Squadron onward to the new heights!
