Epsilon Squadron
EPSILON SQUADRON WEEKLY REPORT #3
EPSILON CMDR: CM Hav Antiel
REPORT DATE: 23 January 2016
SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER
    Greetings pilots.

There's sad news to deliver this week. Long-time Epsilon pilot COL "Six" Joe announced his retirement to the reserves. He returned to his Fleet Admiral rank when he transferred to the FRG Phoenix. It's always a sad day when a pilot retires, and I was personally just getting to know Joe. Nevertheless, I wish him well in retirement, and I hope he can rejoin our ranks some day.

I do have some good news to report: I'm finally cleared for flight after getting my TIE Advanced sorted out (in other words, I have finally figured out how to get TIE Fighter running on my new laptop). Expect a special SP challenge from your CMDR in February.

There's one week left in January's Epsilon Weekly Trivia, and this past week saw increased participation. COL Gyssler was the class of the field; he correctly identified all of the TIE variant craft, even the TIE ap-1 "Mauler" (or as CM Witcher calls it, "Sorry, but I don't think that's a TIE..."). Superlative work, COL Gyssler. Next week's theme is Imperial defectors.

Finally, my secret search for a droid assistant has come to an end. Alas, there was only one submission, HA Dempsey's colorful submission R2-L1, AKA "Rainbow." Details to come in my next report.
NEWS
  • COL Joe retired to the FRG Phoenix after a nearly two-year stint as Epsilon 2-3. His Fleet Admiral rank has been restored during the transfer process. We hope to see you back in the cockpit one day, "Six."

  • The second week of Epsilon Weekly Trivia is in the books, and COL Gyssler is the winner with five correct guesses. Last week's answers were:

    • Monday: TIE/ph Phantom
      Tuesday: TIE/sr Scout
      Wednesday: Lancet Aerial Artillery
      Thursday: TIE ap-1 "Mauler"
      Friday: TIE/sh Shuttle

COMPETITIONS

I will summarize competitions that apply to Epsilon in this section, but you should always check the Competitions Center and Combat Center for full details on all competitions.

  1. Epsilon MP Ace of the Month - Until 31 January - Fly PvP missions on approved platforms and send me your screenshots and totals each week. The Epsilon pilot with the most multiplayer victories in the month will receive an IS-BW.

  2. Epsilon SP Ace of the Month - Until 31 January - At the end of each month, the Epsilon pilot who flies the most single player missions will receive an IS-BW. Each mission flown is worth one point for the purposes of this competition. Missions with high scores are worth two points.

  3. Epsilon Weekly Trivia - Weekly - Every day, I'll send a Star Wars-related trivia question via email. Respond individually, and the pilot with the most points each week will receive an IS-BR. Additionally, the pilot with the highest score at the end of the month will earn an IS-SR.

  4. Epsilon Scholar of the Month - Until 31 January - Flex those Epsilon brains! Complete IWATS Courses (double points for a perfect score). The Epsilon pilot with highest score at the end of the month is awarded an IS-BR.

CLOSING COMMENTS
Three weeks in as Squadron Commander, I'd like to review progress on my goals:
  1. Increase participation
  2. Encourage and have fun
  3. Rediscover Epsilon's personality
Participation is up this week! I've heard from every pilot except LT Masterseb this week, and three pilots sent answers regularly for Weekly Trivia. Good theme, perhaps? GN Dax Corrin continues to fly SP missions and battles for XvT, and LCM Lady Labyrinth returned to the skies of Star Conflict with GN Dunta Polo to earn some Legions of Combat and Skirmish. Although we lost COL Joe to the Phoenix, our smaller roster has helped Epsilon regain some Squadron Citations. That's not how I'd like to earn Citations, but it's nice to see Epsilon back on the Squadron Battleboards board for the first time in a long while. With all of this in mind, I'd say we're making progress toward that first goal.

The second and third goals are harder to measure. I've had some meaningful contact with Epsilon's pilots over the last two weeks, and I'm learning more about you all, both IC and in real life. You're starting to share some jokes with me, too; I'll never look at a TIE ap-1 without CM Witcher's succinct comments coming to mind. I was hoping someone from the squadron would have submitted a droid design for the contest, but the story's not over yet. Next up is a fiction contest to find out how R2-L1 came into my possession. I might even offer up a case of Epsilager to the members of the winning flight...

I've ended my first two WSRs with some open-ended questions regarding Epsilon's pride and personality. In the end, I don't want to push it. You can't force an identity, just like you can't really choose your own nickname. So this is the last time you'll see my "personality" goal in this report, at least for a while. I'll give it time and let it develop naturally.

Happy hunting,
