Raise the Flag 2015 is almost upon us, a competition that promises to be just as exciting and uncertain as the competition we were able to win for the Warrior and ourselves last year. I have no doubt we’re all going to hold our own and I’m encouraged by the response over the squadron group so far, optimistically over half of the squadron should be taking to the skies to hound whatever villain or foe emerges to threaten the EH. Last year’s performance surprised a lot of people, myself included, and made it clear that even the old and infirm veterans amongst the TC have something to offer. Fingers crossed we’ll be teaching the same lesson, but suffice to say I have every confidence we’ll do ourselves proud. If the title is taken from us it’ll be from our cold, dead hands, but at least made bearable by the fact it’ll be the young upstarts of Sin, Sigma or Kappa doing the taking.

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of commanding a number of squadrons over the years – Phantom, Crossbow, Shield, Lambda, Theta – indeed my record shows that I commanded Shield for nearly 4 years which is entirely untruthful! I may well have commanded Green at some stage but my ageing memory isn’t helpful at present! My most recent period as Theta 1 has been far and above the most rewarding and I’m grateful to my squad, COM, and everyone else for making it happen - hopefully this RtF will represent the next step in our glorious history.

Theta Competitions

Thetan Aces ongoing, it was a pleasure to see three other Thetans in addition to myself flying since my last report. As such Yoda was limited to winning the SP weeks commencing April 27th and May 18th for two IS-BWs currently pending award. Mark claimed the week commencing May 4th and May 11th for his own pair of IS-BWs. The MP front proved to be less active, but Mark’s LoCs for the week of May 4th and Keth’s for the week of May 18th proved to be enough to earn them both an IS-BW. Well done to all – a final round will take place to cover the period of May 25th until the commencement of hostilities on June 1st.

Operational Picture

…He means it this time, Frown’s in there shouting at him but he’s just tuning him out somehow – it’s incredible! He told me once that when the WC visits he just stares at a patch of bulkhead behind Frown’s head and hopes that his eyes might one day just burn clean through him. To be honest with that stare of his I suspect I’d combust spontaneously or wet myself out of sheer terror, hopefully the latter would at least put me out...

...Something weird must be happening up top, haven’t seen a Commander or above in at least an hour and I’ve managed to get the days work done early without harassment or pilots sticking their noses in to tell me how to do things better. Bad sign that, if the seniors have been dragged up and into something and even the junior officers have twigged on that they need to hide it means someone, somewhere, is massively in the poodoo. Glad it’s not me...
