I'm not usually a big fan of 'inside joke' plots, especially a couple decades later, but this one was pulled off pretty well. Or at least some of the humor was actually on point! Overall, I thought the missions were well made, and a good use of XWA's capabilities. Extra points for creativity.

It's chaos, unfettered chaos. The briefings and debriefs are basically gibberish. There's no clear story, and you have zero clue where you are or what you're doing. It's just incoherent chaos. But? I loved it. Lots of big set piece engagements, super straight forward. Flying an INT was a nice touch. Much prefer something that is straight forward, rather than the over-the-top and not fun convolution of something like, cough, 29. :P

So this wasn't really a battle. It's just a collection of random missions that are fraught with inside references and jokes. A note to everyone - 15 years later? None of that ages well. I did like the throwback WoW and MSN Zone references, so I'm tacking on a point for that. But other than for something like RtF or FCHG points? I'd skip.

Pretty good battle - the story, repelling an NR attack against Corellia, is fairly good. Nothing too complex in any of the missions, but I like having multiple big fleet set pieces, they're generally reasonable in length and fun to fly. The last mission was a little wonky, but overall had a pretty good time with this one!

I really enjoyed this battle. Sure, there's really no story, and the missions are on the very basic, very fast side. But I liked the creativity of deep-diving into the experimental fighters. I also though the debriefs were done well, and looked like credible evaluations. Nothing special overall, but I give extra points for well executed creativity. ;)

I really enjoyed the setup for this battle. The briefings were well written and generally well written. The story was pretty good overall, and the missions tracked to the story very well. Mission design wasn't the best, some weird objectives and super tedious waiting, but the story more than made up for it.

Not much of a story, again, I think it was more of an inside knowledge kind of thing. The missions are fragmented and chronologically scattered, such that it just feels like a collection of free missions. There's some decent mission design, but also some fairly tedious stuff.

I think at the time these in-joke kind of stories are probably good, but they do not age well. The story was pretty nonsensical, and the briefings are kind of low effort. On the flip side, the missions themselves are pretty quick and simple, so at least that's good.

A few other reviews have stated this, but I found the whole scenario pretty implausible. We have TDs laying around but we send out TIs with no missiles to escort the leader of the EH? Feels flimsy. That kind of implausibility stayed in the whole story, and made it a little hard to enjoy. Mission design was ok, nothing tedious, but not particularly novel.

Pretty unremarkable. The story is loose, but I do like that they at least attempted a narrative format in the debriefs. It's meandering and not at all consistent, but points for taking the attempt. Missions themselves were ok. Nothing too complex, and it was awesome to get to use a turbolaser. But overall? Just kind of meh. Not awful, not good.

This wasn't nearly as fun as the earlier Histroy of. I missed the narrative style from the last one, this read a lot more like a history book. The story also felt a lot more arbitrary and scattered, not surprising given the amount of time that passes in the story. Mission design was ok, but way too much waiting around. Also another battle that tries to hide the ball on objectives. :(

Started with an interesting premise, the hunt for and tracking down of a traitorous squadron. If they had stuck here it probably would've been a great narrative, but they easily got lost and went into other things and split focus. Mission design was only solidly ok too. I don't think it was bad, but it's not one I'd recommend beyond RtF or points either.

I really enjoyed the story for this battle. It was a nice attempt, and I really enjoyed the little novelizations in each of the debriefs. There are some things in the story that are stretchy and implausible, but overall I found it a good story well executed. Mission design was pretty basic, but it didn't take away at all from the experience.

Not a big fan. The missions were simple and clear enough, and I appreciated that things were reasonably fast with little waiting. I just had major issues with the story. The first two missions started off very promising, and then the story basically stops and you do random free missions. It's too bad, because there was potential. But as is? Pretty disappointing.

I'm not sure about all the hate for this battle. The storyline was pretty clear if unambitious, you're just striking against a war lord and accepting the surrender of some of his forces. It's definitely clear enough and progresses. The missions are pretty simple, but fun, especially the fleet engagement. I overall had a pretty good time with it.

It was ok. The premise and concept are interesting enough, going 'privateer' and joining the Rebels. It's not really privaterring though, it was more of just being a spy. It's also implausible you could just 'join' a Rebel patrol and hang out for months. But I still like the idea. Mission design is average. Nothing bad, but nothing exceptional. Some waiting, but nothing prohibitive.

It was solidly ok. The story is actually pretty tightly constructed and well told, it's basically an anti-pirate action. The missions themselves vary. There's lots and lots of capture objectives, so expect to spend a lot of time waiting, especially if you didn't trigger arrival conditions properly. Also, not a fan of vague mission objectives. It's not clever guys.

The missions were all pretty basic, basically just blast a squadron or less of fighters. The objectives were usually narrowly tailored to that too, minus the third mission. I also didn't care for some of the loadout choices between missions. But overall, it told a coherent if short story and the missions were decent.

The storyline is decent enough, nothing particularly creative but the missions at least stay consistent with it. The first three missions, not complex, but fun enough to play. The final mission? 6 squadrons worth of 100% kills as a primary goal and they all have 'retreat if damaged' orders? Sorry, but that's just sloppy design. Absent that mission? Probably a 4. But it really was that bad.

Not an original story, more kind of a loose re-tread from TIE. The missions themselves were fairly straightforward, and you knew why you were doing what you were doing. But design was pretty basic, there wasn't much complexity or anything unique to the design choices. Just kind of meh overall, but not prohibitively bad or anything.

A very light story that isn't really well told, but there's at least a (thin) premise that kind of explains why you're there and what you are doing. The missions are for the most part reasonable and clear enough. The last mission doesn't make any sense, either from a narrative point or how it's setup. It almost seems like the goal was to be tedious. Rest of the battle is a solid average battle, but that last mission brings the score down.

I really enjoyed the tie-in of Dark Troopers for this. That said, they didn't really do much with it, there wasn't much of a narrative and the briefings were pretty basic. The mission design itself was pretty basic and repetitive too. Overall could've been something a lot cooler with a little more effort.

Lots of problems with this one. An attack on the Daedalus (especially given the bonus prompt this RtF) is an interesting premise, but the briefings really just ignore any story for the most part. The mission design is really bad. It's basically just the same mission over and over with little to no variation. If not for RtF, I would never fly this, and recommend the same to others.

Points for the idea of showing training and placement in a unit. But the reality is that it winds up being unnecessarily tedious. The mission design is a bit slow, and no warheads at all and a bunch of easy, tedious dogfighting isn't very entertaining. The briefings also don't follow through on the premise nearly as much as they could. Still fun, but I can see some easy ways this would've been even better.

Generally a well-constructed battle. The story is not the most ambitious, guarding the Emperor's archives in a transfer, but it's executed really well. The mission arc is believable, and each mission is in that sweet spot of driving the story forward without being incremental. The missions themselves, while not too long or complex, are generally well designed too.
