What a coincidence, this battle got a 0 which is the same number of custom missions created by the guy who rated the mission so badly. Ok, so this battle is the worst piece of crap because...mission #1 is a nightmare if it is flown on hard. First off, if the battle is too hard you can try Medium or Easy difficulty levels. Second off, if you define the mission as a nightmare maybe it is indeed a test for a pilot's skill. Maybe your problem is that this is not the usual "T/D with a crapload of adv.missiles Vs a bunch of stupid AI controlled craft" mission that can be beaten by simply unloading your unlimited ammos on anything with a enemy IFF code. It requires good timing and situational awarness. Anyhow, I completed all missions on hard during beta-test, without cheats and it wasn't that hard. Why? Because I followed the given orders. Of course if you send home all your wingmen (or other stupid things like that) to get a perfect HS, the mission will become very very very hard and it is not my fault if odds will be monstrously stacked against you.
I agree with Dolsar. I don't know why this battle got so many 5s (actually I know but I won't say it here :p): plotline is only above-average, missions are all the same kill kill kill stuff and I didn't like the fact that imperial AI groups got slaughtered after 10 seconds in every mission.
This is a good mission, basically it's the usual killl-kill-kill stuff but it requires skills and you have to know what craft kill first so I'd say it requires also situation awarness to be completed on Hard. I've never encountered the bug mentioned in other reviews so I give this mission a 4.
Just to clear things out: I had to use "many" invulnerable craft because there was a plotline to follow, I think that using a invulnerable craft is better than see a destroyed cap ship/platform re-appear in the next mission As for the rebels thingy, read the debriefing of last mission. Also, things will become clearer in my upcoming XWA-DB battle :p
I like this mission because it requires flying skills but you also have to use your brain in order to beat it. I'd give this mission a 5 but there is that annoying bug with capital ships.
Ewww...this mission is too easy! Playing on Hard, I killed the SCT, ran away and watched at the other Imperial craft destroy everything, even the so called "reinforcements". No need to protect the M/FRG coz she actually can destroy everything on her own. BTW..why all rebel fighters attack player's fighter and ignore the others?
Ok, maybe I'm a little biased but I liked this battle :P Only problems I encountered have been the long wait in Mission #3 and the asteroid platforms in Mission #1. Asteroids in XvT have very strong shields plus in that mission they have 200% so you need hours to destroy all of them.
Nice and relaxing mission, it's fun to kill all those cap ships but there are no backdrops or light sources and AI of enemy ships coul have been better.
I give a 5 for the plotline but only a 3 for the missions because they aren't very original: you just fly a T/D killing endless Wings of Toscan Fighters. The battle is fun though
