Battle Reviews

Many very similar missions where you gotta go destroy something. That's why I pretty much exclusively pick the strike option or a gunboat if there is one in the options because it makes the missions significantly better. Nothing else too crazy about it. Lots of missions and its pretty fast to complete. I can't complain.

I flew this as part of Raise the Flag competition 2021. Overall, the battle seemed straightforward with no major hang-ups. There is not much to say about it. It was fun but the battle did not contain any elements that makes it stand out from nearly every other battle you have ever flown.

I played this on easy with unlimited waves. Even with cheats this one was long and hard, but its really well done. no bugs or issues that prevent you from finishing this. the last mission is a long dogfight while you escort an xwing out

I played on Easy. This Battle is mostly just straightforward fights. You have a lot of missions whose objectives are 'kill the Rebel fleet'. I don't see much special in this Battle, it's feel very much the same over all the missions. I'd have rather seen a shorter battle with more care given to each of the individual missions.

A reasonable start to the battle, it as challenging yet manageable which was really quite enjoyable. However as a few have mentioned it became quite repetitive with several missions being different twists on the same thing, all of which could be rapidly completed if you just went for rockets and gunboats. Final mission was also a bit strange!

This one started so well. Forcing you to protect gunboats while they do their thing is a different challenge for once, but it soon devolved into GUNs having their way as the battle progressed. The missions were also almost clones of each other. After a while when flying 12 missions in a row I feel tired and having such uninteresting missions just made it worse. It's not a bad battle, it simply isn't such a good one either. Small improvements would have made it a lot better.

An okay battle. A lot of the missions seem poorly paced. You can crank through the objectives very fast, but thankfully none seem to take forever for no reason at all, which is a huge blessing. The final mission seems a bit lost on me since I have no idea who any of the people involved are

This was a battle that took, on average, around ten minutes per mission. However not a lot of that time was spent waiting, which was nice. The plot was good, and the bonus co-op mission at the end would be fun for a group to fly but is perfectly manageable solo. An enjoyable afternoon's flying when accompanied by RL chores and life stuff.

Long but not wearisome. Like previous installment, the battle goes by a well-written plotline and missions follow accordingly. Engagements can be easy and simple for primary goals, or can develop into further efforts in order to achieve the bonus goals. I really liked the realistic feeling of the patrols and how player could solve things by bombing his way out in a GUN or dogfighting and covering the heavy attackers, while in a T/I or T/A. Difficulty is perfectly balanced and is a battle for every level of skill. Fly it, you won't see your time gone to waste. Good for points, good for fun, good to remember the old glory of fine mission craftmanship.

This was, I thought, quite a well put together battle. The objectives were well laid out, and there was tons of information put into the briefings. While most of the action is in the form of dog fighting, there is however quite a few scenarios that require other piloting skills. Encountered a couple of instances of enemy craft being invulnerable, but I think this was by design for the story in some parts.

Well, the author had a fresh souvenir of the old Maffia"Capos" of New York; he had named the Genkos ships with the names like Marazzano,Anastasia or Genovese, etc. Or other personnages of the Italian story(like Don Juan). Not Imperial ship named "Eliott Ness"(he,he...)?.But we are in New York, not Chicago...Finally, are only names. The battle is OK, only the last mission, the cooperative one, was something confused for me. But in general well done

Again, this is one of those battles that should be about half the length it is. While the missions target different things, the goals are the same. Also, the lack of "realism" in this battle really got on my nerves. Obvious things like using T/Is to attack captial ships and only deploying a handful of fighters to defend an ISD under attack are errors that really detract from the enjoyability of this battle. While the missions are glitch free, I was just about sick of flying it by the time I got to the end.

Very good Battle ender! Good story, plenty of enemies and great fun....AND none of the missions were too long. :) Was also good to see 'ye olde rust bucket(The Luggage) in some of the missions ;)

Description
-----------
This battle is part of a series of free missions about each of the squadrons in the ASF doing
missions following their squadron objective in their assigned craft. Each mission tries to give
a feel and a bit of history of each of the Squadrons. All the storylines of the missions are
interconnected and have the ASF Squadron join together against a common foe. In timeline this
battle takes place just after the free missions.

Story Line
----------
1. On a relief and rescue mission to a disaster stricken planet in the territories of the
New Republic the ISDII Vanguard has created a large breach in the New Republic Spine
Security Force's border defenses. The ISDII Grey Wolf will jump through that hole and sneak
into the NR undetected.
From behind enemy lines we will then start on a "guerrilla" type mission of economical and
logistical disruption. The Grey Wolf and its support will do continuous hit and fade strikes
on targets of either military or economical value while not staying round on the same spot
long enough to suffer too many damages.
For this mission we have finally been assigned new fighters to replace our mostly outdated
Wing. Our old fighters will be assigned new uses in the Grey Wolf Battle group Wings aboard
the support craft. A large part of the old fighters have already been transported to the
ESC Corrupter and VSD Monitor. Phoenix Squadron is to make sure our new fighters get from
the CRVs Viking to the Grey Wolf.

2. The best way to undermine an enemies military force and stability is by taking out its
supply lines and logistics, which are the blood vessels of any operation. Without fuel no
fighter flies, without parts they will, but not for long... and that's besides that there
won't be anyone to fly it without food.
Just over the border a nice present was delivered to us by the New Republic: A practically
undefended freighter convoy is trying to get to their hyper space point just where the DREAD
Demeter, carrying Valkyrie Squadron, was supposed to start its patrol of the region.

3. Of course no operation immediately stops because the supplies don't reach them in time.
They will have supplies stored away in caches and will try to get more of what they need
from the area where they are themselves either by business or by force. Hence, to make our
attacks on their supply lines more effective we will also attack their caches and disrupt
their business with the locals.
Recon has pointed out one of the New Republic Spine Security Force's caches of supplies.
Besides the containers we get a bonus of several corvettes and a frigate. Two of our
squadrons plus the FRG Vengeance will take care of the enemy forces while the M/INT Vertex
keeps them pinned down. Destroy anything that moves first and everything that doesn't
second.

4. Another important part of any warfare is taking out the enemy's manufacturing facilities,
or he'll just rebuild what you destroy further down the path. The first industries that
should be targeted are always those directly involved with the war: the weapons
manufacturers, next up would be the factories that create craft, then those that supply
these with fuel and from there you work your way down via harbors and chemical facilities
to bakeries and brewers and such.
We will use the ISDII Grey Wolf to attack a larger factory of Taim&Bak, which are renowned
for their turbolaser and ioncannons all over the Galaxy - even our own Wolf has Taim&Bak
parts. The difference is that this factory is one licensed to the Spine Security Force's
leader, the Duke of Nister, exclusively... which is something we will work on.
Keep in mind that if any NR-SSF reinforcements arrive in the form of Cruisers we'll be out
of here. The Grey Wolf can tackle them for sure, but not without sustaining unacceptable
casualties.

5. A probebot that checked out a small asteroid field in the uninhabited Tornaka System
found exactly what our strategists apparently were expecting: A Genko Frigate waiting for
supplies. The Genkoans are renowned for their habit of doing business with any party in the
Civil War, but on this side of the border that can only mean the New Republic. Their
presence at the NR-SSF supply cache earlier would certainly point in that direction.
Our Wing Commander, LC Wes Janson, has taken a shuttle from Helga Squadron and a load of
heavy warheads to deal with the frigate. Vortex Squadron will function as his escort.
Although by now we realize that that the Genkoans will never learn - we can at least punish
them once again for their treasonous habits. For the occasion the T/Is of Vortex have been
equipped with hyperdrives.

6. While our Wing Commander took the wheel the regular Helga 1-1 crew was able to track the
incoming and outgoing vectors of the craft flying in to resupply the Genkoan frigate, which
brought us to a Genkoan Base which apparently is a bit too friendly with the New Republic:
A NR-SSF convoy is passing by it at this actual moment.
Tartarus Squadron will hyper from the ISDII Grey Wolf, with a slight diversion to throw off
trackers, to the Genkoan Base and take out the convoy craft that are there now. If things
are going well and you haven't sustained too many casualties you can go on to take out
whatever else is there.

7. While regular hit and fades on the New Republic's supply lines continue, DREAD Demeter,
M/INT Vertex and Odin Squadron combine forces to take out some more of the region's military
industrial targets: Sources from within the New Republic have lead us to this hardly
defended Transparisteel Factory.
While it seems trivial, transparisteel is an important part of any fighter or starships's
construction. Any window or canopy is made of the material and without a closed hull, no
craft flies through space - which saves us the bother of destroying it.
There are no enemy forces anywhere close, but a factory like this regularly has its own
fighter forces - which can go from two squadrons to a full wing... But luckily these
regularly are cheaper antiquated fighters, which should be no problem for Odin.

8. Duke Sankhya Perlemian, Fleet Admiral of the New Republic Spine Security Force has
started to take an interest in our little operation here and has decreed that security
defenses around bases and convoys should be heightened. In an holonet interview he stated:
"If need to be, I'll stick a Cruiser on every single one of our Freighters."
This might seem like bad news to the Grey Wolf, but it is exactly what we wanted. Every
Cruiser or Frigate spent on escorting duty can't go around "liberating" systems or raiding
ours anymore - or patrol the border.
To make it all a bit more fun for the Duke and create a bit more panic amongst his
populations we are going to show that even a Cruiser won't matter much if the ISDII
Grey Wolf is on the job: We are going to attack a Cruiser and the convoy its escorting and
destroy the lot.

9. Now we got the New Republic spending more and more forces at escorting their essential
convoys (after our last little stunt they're putting 2 Cruisers on each convoy now) we can
have a go at their regular border defenses... which ironically have very little defenses at
the moment.
Base Ducal Forte is one of these border defenses: a modified and reinforced large base
considered by the New Republic as strong enough to withstand a heavy assault without
cruiser assistance.... in which we are going to prove them wrong.
Strike Squadron Crusader is jumping in from the ISDII Grey Wolf and tackle this problem
with Heavy Rockets - which our tacticians have calculated to be more then enough as long as
the fighters are taken care of.

10. With the New Republic occupied with their supply lines and borders, its time for us to
wreck some more havoc. One of the most efficient, if gruesome, methods of taking out the
foundations under a military force is the strategy of "Burned World": by destroying
everything, even the tiniest or most trivial things, that can be of use to the enemy in any
way you automatically extend its supply lines - as things will have to be taken in from
outside the "burned" area. The longer supply lines become - the more vulnerable they become
to our hit and fades.
Pacification Squadron Tartarus is perfectly suited for this job and has already been laying
waste to complete cities during this campaign. Their next target is less soil bound: A
platform that functions as a trade center for all kinds of parties and systems in the area.
Your primary goal will be a Genkoan Escort Carrier, the destruction of which will most
likely scare off the other traders and bankrupt the trade center... though you are allowed
to speed that up

11. The jackpot in industrial targets must be those that aren't just manufacturing weaponry,
but also are developing new forms of weapons. A small technical advantage has been the
deciding factor in many a war before and has also proved to be in this one. Taking out a
weapons development complex as such has the great advantage that it can cause a technical
fall back in the enemy, which sometimes can be permanent.
The problem with these types of facilities is that they are by default top-secret and as
such very hard to get to. But luck is smiling upon us: Less then 10 minutes ago a bright
flash of electrons was detected on a platform which officially is bookmarked as a "Medical
Lab" - A blast that can only have been caused by an advanced Electro Magnetical Pulse
weapon.
Our advantage is that everything in the vicinity will be disabled - our disadvantage is
that more people are bound to have noticed the flash, which makes timing essential.

12. Duke Perlemian apparently has completely had it with the ISDII Grey Wolf and agreed upon
an armed alliance with the Genkoan Dons - who dislike anything that's bad for business.
Together they have launched a full scale attack on our main base of operations for this
mission: the Pyrath Naval Base.
Using their own hyperdrives and the FRG Vengeance most of Wing XIII has made it in time
back to the Base to offer some defense. The ISDII Grey Wolf itself is underway from the
border with more forces but that might still take quite some time - a luxury the Naval Base
doesn't have.
Defend the Base till the Grey Wolf arrives with more help!

13. (Bonus Mission)
"The day has finally come. A good friend, and an excellent CMDR is leaving us...
The crew of the ISD Grey Wolf has assembled one last time to bid farewell to our comrade in
arms.
LC Tomaas Banys has been one of the best men this officer has ever served with - and one of
the best this ship has ever had the honor of housing. Though saddened to see him leave the
ship, we'll assemble one last time to escort him out, and send him off.
Our five CMDR's will be flying close escort for him, accompanied by the WC and COM. We'll
be watched over by the Grey Wolf's battlegroup. It's imperative that Tomaas makes it to
hyperspace, and that we don't lose ANY EH Personnel.
To Tomaas - Good luck and god speed, my friend. You're always welcome back on the Grey Wolf."
-LC Wes Janson

NOTE
-------------------
You need XvT (or at least all the ships involved there), as far as i know
no other patches are needed. This battle was created in part to accomodate
some experiments in waypoint settings.
