Fun story and mission. Good mix of action and the setting was good. Well done.

The fastest way to my heart is with a T/F, lol...this mission certainly doesn't disappoint. It uses the T/F for what it's best suited: close-range interception and point defense. Tons of dogfighting and not a very...annoying...environment make this mission ideal to fly in an unshielded TIE. I liked it quite a bit since you can go around inspecting everything afterward.

I am saddened that I could not concur with my fellow officers. It almost feels like if I was flying a different mission. The idea of the unshielded T/F or T/I is certainly appealing, but then setting the primary goals as destruction of a CRS and a FRG?. Not a thing an unshielded gumball can achieve. The whole mission will circle around the GUNs and dogfighting wishbones and fighters, but nothing more. It was all about pew pew, kill kill, and maybe I was a bit tired, but it felt just like any other mission by the thousands of the Compendium. Not a bad one, certainly not, but I didn't quite appreciate any fun in it.

High marks from me seeing some classic fighters in this one. I love that there are still some missions that include the ability to fly something other than the Defender or the Advanced. They throw a lot at you in this battle, especially considering the Y wing loves to use those ion cannons on unshielded craft. Good mission that I enjoyed.

I do have mixed feelings about this. I like it though. You start into a nice setting with the backdrop of an earth-like planet and some faction going about their business (do not go to inspect them you will waste valuable time). They offer a nice background setting to the whole affair. I love this part. The mission creator went as far as adding some activity in the background giving them life. You then have the actual battle, spanning several large and medium sized cap ships from both sides coupled with a ton of fighters. You have the choice of flying either as a T/F or a T/I. Throughout the mission you have to choose your targets wisely. Warning, do not rest on your laurels. Your ISD will die if you don't take care of the enemy fighters ASAP, especially near the end when a crapload of B-Wings arrive, while those pesky Ywings keep trying to release a barrage of torpedoes. The only real threat to you is the Calamari Cruiser. Do not engage it directly unless you absolutely have to. The scenario in which you may consider engaging it, is to destroy its batteries so it wont destroy your ISD. The interdictor was never in any risk (maybe because of the choices I made during battle).

One would think this is yet another skirmish type mission of let's do everything in one hyper area. Though I can see the author put effort into some background action happening with the blue force. And a big plus for nostalgia run and putting me in a plain T/F or T/I. It was quite difficult to fly but certainly fun.

An old-school mission featuring Tie Fighters and Interceptors. But it isn't hard really. Dunno why the cruisers are called Freespace and Starlancer. Is that a way of saying that XWA is better than those space-sims? Hahahaha!

Description:

This is a mission from the EH mission archives onboard every ship. The battle plays at the time, when the Emperor was starting to build his empire and the rebels were only a small group of smugglers. And here is the plot:

Imperial intelligence have a new Source for information about the Rebels. As the Source hasn’t been approved yet I can’t tell you the name of it. We gathered several information from it. One was that the Mon Calamari joined the Rebels and are now providing them with their large Calamari Cruisers (CRS). We also got information that one of those CRS is in the Mooth System. It is leading a Task force of at least three Capital ships, so this might become a problem for the Systems Government. We are sending out a small Task force lead by the Imperial Class Stardestroyer Redemption to investigate in this case. The Task Force consists of four Starships, the ISD Redemption, the INT Menace and two M/CRVs. This force should have no problem with any forces you might face as it is fully equipped with 8 Squadrons of TIEs. The two best T/I Squadrons, the 181st and the Avengers are also onboard the Redemption.
Rumors told the Rebels that a small and undefended convoy is heading it’s way to the Mooth System and so we expect the Rebels to attack it. For real the ‘convoy’ is our task force. We want to trap this rebels, which might lower the activity in the Mooth System and lower moral by the remaining rebels. Alpha Squadron is also to inspect as many civil ships as possible, as there has been some smuggler activity in the sector. We also got information from our new source about that smuggling, so that’s another way to check if the source is right.
When the Rebel fleet should really arrive we know for sure that our new source is trustable and that we could rely on the information from it. If the Source should be right and you should find so illegal cargo don’t destroy it. Troops are standing by to capture everything that looks strange.

Remember, this is a battle of the time before the TIE Advanced was invented and the other TIE Fighters hadn’t been equipped with shields yet… When the mission was really flown by the imperial navy, they lost lots of fighters, but no capital ship was lost.

Have fun with the mission!
