This battle wasn't fun in the slightest. Playing it on easy is still annoying enough because of just plain annoying design decisions for how the missions play out. If you like taking hours of banging your head into a wall to figure out how to precisely get through some of these missions go for it. If you're like me and you want to have fun, avoid at all costs
Another excellent contribution from Dempsey. The Karana saga is one of the best in my opinion, and this initial chapter is true to that quality. The storyline is concise yet perfectly written. Briefings and preliminaries are also very effective. The missions and the action unfold according to the plot, but without losing the challenge and entertainment of a demanding game. The only thing is the usual missile fetish in her missions, and dodging advanced missiles or dumb-firing at capital ships may be considered an invigorating workout of aiming and pilot skills, though it wears on the player eventually, turning things slightly nerve-racking. Do not miss this one.
The Battle's story is consistent and fits nicely into the general Void Raptor Storyline.
The missions are all quite different, which makes this 6 mission battle not as tiresome as others.
That being said the whole battle suffers several issues. [May contain spoilers]
- There is no "mission failed" message for mission one. You missed scanning a transport? Tough luck; we don't need to tell you.
- Mission 4 is extremely based on luck [for me as an average player]. Are you lucky enough that your AI "companions" and you manage to take out enough of the Heavy Missile launchers? If yes: No Problem in the mission. [And from the experience of 6 tries: The same approach does consistently NOT deliver the same result. Thus: Luck]
- Mission 5 is tedious and demotivational. A flight of 5 GUNs with 6 proton torpedoes each consistently fires 10 of the overall 30 at the main target, leading to repetitive and longlasting attack runs against the target. [of course under the pressure of the Target hypering out]
- mission 6 is a question of pure luck again. ATRs destroy boarding/disable targets or are destroyed by them without clear indications of why, regardless of player interaction. [8 tries produced 6 different mission lost events (different destroyed transports/targets); All tries that resulted in destroyed boarding targets happened without player interaction with these boarding targets]
All in all, this results in me giving only three points for the battle.
Excellent battle, sometimes mission 6 acts a bit funny and the ATRs destroy a Freighter, but otherwise bug free! I enjoyed it very much!
