Excellent battle. Solid, well developed and better laid out. Outstanding briefings and maps, the plotline is good and there will be dozens of different combinations for the player to choose from. You can literally fly every squadron in the mighty Wing X. Also, missions would range from classic dogfighting, to kidnapping and capship bombing. A true classic.

Good battle, which can be rather hard at times. Although still a battle that any XvT combat jockey will utterly enjoy *

Should add that the bug above is for mission 4

If the primary target is disabled too quickly shuttle monsoon will crash into the ISD Challenge and die when it goes to enter its hangar, failing the mission. The Tie defenders that disable the E/S patrol for craft to attack but do not attack anything except the Assault transports that attack the Challenge.

Note that this battle is supposed to be a challenge: It may be hard for some pilots. Check the plotline.txt (in /Misc) for hints if you need them. Story Line ---------- Mission 1: Interrogation of the crew of the FRG Aurelius captured by Wing VIII has revealed that the Flight Officer of the New Republic Spine Security Force, VA Suleima, has taken control of the operation against the EH personally. VA Suleima is one of the few Calamari that has a military background on Calamari itself, first being a part of that planet's defense force. She is highly experienced in the acts of war and commanded her own, smaller, fleet not long ago. Our own Tactical Officer has decided upon a strategy that should prevent the NR operation from reaching the EH territories at all. The plan is to keep the resources the rebels need for their campaign from ever reaching them; If we destroy enough of her crucial supplies then VA Suleima will not be able to actually attack us. Mission 2: Our Tactical Officer has decided that we can easily disrupt Spine Security Force operations even more by disabling their Communications Systems. Usually such systems depend on large amounts of spread out duplicate connections so as to make it so that the destruction of a single satellite does not take out the entire net. But the totalitarian leaders of the NR-SSF however want to be able to control all communications within their fleet and have made a critical error in their designs to do so. Tornado Squadron is going to take the entire NR-SSF network out in a single hit: The main communications array near the Bav System. This should severely disrupt the Rebel operation that apparently is being set up against us. To give Tornado a better chance at taking out the array, Thunder Squadron will distract any Rebel forces in the area by trying to pass through a convoy with "Crucial" supplies. Mission 3: With the Spine Security Force's communications disabled we have the chance to raid their outposts without those being able to call in for help. They will probably be able to reroute their communications quickly but in that period we want to do as much damage to their operations as possible. A New Republic Supply Base has been on our eviction list for quite a while. These bases resupply and deploy the Spine Security force all along the Corellian Trade Spine and can usually depend on fast response back ups. Typhoon and Cyclone Squadrons are ordered to take out this particular base and any freighter craft around it. Intel has it that VA Suleima is on her way to this particular base however, so be quick about it. Mission 4: Our last few actions must have already inflicted serious damage on NR-SSF operations, but the arrival of VA Suleima at the scene of the New Republic Supply Base Typhoon and Cyclone destroyed can perhaps lead to the final blow: We will attempt to kidnap her. Taking their Flight Officer will surely disrupt their operations against the Emperor's Hammer beyond repair. For this mission we have reordered several of our flights in two temporary squadrons: One of TIE Defenders and one of Missile Boats. This will look like a standard Imperial attack strategy, where the T/Ds escort the MIS in a destructive strike on capital ships... This might prompt top staff in those capital ships to try to escape. At that point the real set up of the mission will become clear: The MIS will actually be escorting the T/Ds on a mission to disable any escaping shuttles and transports. Mission 5: Our plan did not work; VA Suleima had apparently suspected something and had a decoy double take her place. However we were able to capture several of her top ranking officers. After some persuasion they affirmed our own assessment: We have disrupted their operation against us considerably and they are having problems replacing their losses. We suffered some losses ourselves as well however, and those have been costly enough. Luckily, the Science Officer has been able to get us a whole new squadron of TIE Defenders to replace these losses. They will be delivered to the Challenge by the ESC Suppresser at a rendezvous point not far from here. Thunder and Tempest Squadron will be on patrol during the transfer. We have strayed quite far from our home bases, so trouble can probably be expected. NOTE ------------------- You need XvT (or at least all the ships involved there) AND the EH Ship Patch for XvT. To fly as a team all players need the same version, make sure you all have the update by lucasarts installed. Other Information ----------------- This is the First release of a quickly made battle. Title: Wing X: The Challenge Missions: 5 Medal: Challenge Crescent Authors: SCO-TCT-TCS-PROF/FA Ender mBind/CS-10/SSSD Sovereign (mindb_ender@hotmail.com) Mission Hints: -------------- 1. "Wing X - Hit and Fade" Select Tempest Squadron and the second flight, the TIE Advanceds. Change your craft in the craft selection to Missileboat and select Advanced Torpedoes. This way you increase the force of the attack considerably. Don't forget you can use the [J] key to jump to other craft of your flight so you can continue the attack after using all your warheads. 2. "Wing X - Censorship" This is a tough one, because the decoy arrives late and we actually want some of the booze to arrive at the Challenge. The problem is that it won't hyper out as long as there is that Modified Strike Cruiser around, with its gravwells. Select Thunder Squadron and take a Missileboat with Advanced Torpedoes. Do not help out or escort Tornado on the destroying of the Relay, the AI can take care of some space objects easily... although they will take longer then you would: which is good - because the convoy arrives 5 minutes into the mission and the later the Rebels arrive (The moment all mines are destroyed), the better. The Rebels hyper in close to the FRG Hellfire, so stay there. Use Advanced Torpedoes to take care of the M/SC as quickly as possible and then keep killing the Y-Ws (and B-Ws). Don't forget you can use the [J] key to jump to other craft of your flight so you can continue the attack after using all your warheads. 3. "Wing X - Eviction Notice" This one is easy as long as you destroy the Heavy Lifters and Cargo Ferries as quickly as possible, before they hyper out. If you want to make it even easier select one of the TIE Advanced Flights (Typhoon III, Cyclone II) and then change your craft type to Missileboats. 4. "Wing X - Kidnapping" Select a Missileboat and change it to a TIE Defender, then jump in on those shuttles as quickly as you can, helping to disable them. A single missile should blow the Escort Shuttle's shields pretty well. After you have disabled the shuttles, sit tight and take on some enemies if you wish. 5. "Wing X - Resupply" Select Tempest and a TIE Advanced Flight (II or III) then change that to TIE Defenders, change your warheads to Advanced Torpedoes. Do not fly too far away from the ISD Challenge - the resupply of T/Ds can take better care of itself then the starships can - and intercept the Y-Ws and B-Ws.
