Everything was smooth sailing in another one of Frodo's famous 'normal' Empire missions....until the last two missions. Oh my goodness it was epic. The second to last mission kicked my ass so many times, but I got through it.
This battle serves as a reminder that XvT as a game doesnt mess around. The AI will cut you if you underestimate them. I agree with Solohan that you just have to take care when flying it, even on easy. Always check the number of waves, wingmen and armament you carry before starting a mission (in general).
I played on Easy. This battle jumped between really easy and kinda difficult. I think it was Mission 5 where you have to fight a bunch of T/As and they definitely don't mess around. Other than that, this battle is pretty quick and a good way to get some quick points.
A well designed and original battle, this one. The Tolkien inspired names were a beautiful sight and it the plotline is fun and has strokes of good humour along as the missions unfold. Simple, easy and fun to fly, with LoTR names in it. A perfect pastime.
Is it bad that I’m happy to see the INT Shire go? The first battle—the one that followed the LotR storyline—was fun, but I haven’t enjoyed the subsequent pseudo-LotR battles. More of Frodo March’s typical techniques: Imperial IFFs for enemy craft and missions that require friendly craft to be attacked and nearly destroyed. Not my favorite stuff, but I can admit that the missions are well designed.
Too simple, but brings back some memories and has good humor.
Mission 3: R-41 Starchaser 'Rap killing' craft are not targetable with 'R' in the CMD, because they have not been designated as enemy craft. Some of the rappers' craft are designated as enemies.
Mission 4: Gunboat group Jazz's orders to destroy the shuttle Gekko are at odds with ATR Techno's orders to disable and capture it.
Mission 5: None of the EH starships fire on the intruding TIE Advanced group Jabber when in range.
