Competition ID #: 195

Submitted by: AD Proton
Competition dates: 2003-03-15 - 2003-08-22
Subgroup: TIE Corps
Units involved: TIE Corps
Description:

TIE Corps squadrons will compete in the SSSD Sovereign League 2003 to determine the best TIE, XvT and XWA single-player squadrons and top-gun pilots. Regular season: Eight rounds (lasting two weeks each). Regular season begins March 15 and ends July 4. Playoffs: Three rounds (two weeks each). Playoff round 1 begins July 13, semifinals July 27 and championship round August 10. Regular-season rounds will feature Battle Center free missions, to be selected by the flag officers, with final approval by the SovCOM. Playoff rounds will use full battles. Scoring will be based on squadrons' raw totals (TIE, laserless). To give smaller squadrons a better chance over the long season, only up to the top 6 scores per round will be counted for each squadron. Bigger squadrons still will have a better chance, but smaller squadrons with determination still could make the playoffs. The top eight squadrons in each division (TIE, XvT and XWA) would advance to the playoffs. Seeding will be regular season 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5. Second round, 1v8 winner would face 4x5 winner, 2x7 vs. 3v6 winner. Winners of the second-round pairing would compete in the final round for the league championship. The semifinal losers would compete for third and fourth places. Individual awards: Top-gun standings will be kept throughout the regular and playoff seasons in each division. Individual pilots will be invited to keep flying the assigned playoff battles, even if their squadron is not in the playoffs -- they will remain eligible for the invididual awards. Regular-season bonuses for playoff squadrons: In each playoff round, higher-seeded squadrons will receive a 5 percent score bonus. Reason: Squadrons that performed so well in the regular season that were able to take first places should be rewarded for their determination and will. Regularity should be rewarded. Squadron rewards: Squadron participation medals are not allowed in conjunction with competitions. However, the winning squadron will receive an "SSSD Sovereign League Champion 2003" banner and will serve an honorary one-year term as Escort Squadron of the SSSD Sovereign Flag Officers. This squadron also will gain the benefits of endless cantina bragging rights and legendary status among the fleet's pilots. Members of the winning squadron will be allowed to display these honors beneath their ID lines. Individual rewards: In each round, the Top Gun pilots in each division will receive the Iron Star-Gold Wings (plus IS-SW for second and IS-BW for third). Because this is a corps-wide competition, the season-long top pilots will receive the Iron Star-Platinum Wings (plus IS-GW for second and IS-SW for third). Chief coordinator of the competition will be LC Todbringer, assisted by MAJ Artys and perhaps other pilots to be named later. Supervisor and judge will be AD Proton.
