Report

As I reflect back upon the year I discovered a disconnect between being awarded the Imperial Cross as the most active Imperial Sovereign Protector (ISP) and the fact that most of the Fleet probably has no idea what I do.

Partially, this is by design. For those less familiar with the ISP role it’s summarized as: reserved for a dedicated Emperor's Hammer officer who has been chosen to guard and protect the Fleet Commander from any external forces, serving the FC as main counselor. Currently it's working as a position for an officer whose vast experience and time in service qualifies him to act as main advisor, along with the Princeps, for the whole club.

Historically, it’s been a pseudo retirement home for an officer of considerable prestige to still be active while not having any formal commitments. I’ll confess, I had similar aspirations when I sought out Rapier in the fall of 2020. After seven months confined to my home office and no end in sight I was seeking a distraction and felt like taking some Imperial University courses and maybe finally getting a mission developed for XWA (sadly, this is still awaiting another pass of mine through the feedback I received).

And thus, from these selfish goals, I returned to the Fleet and slowly found myself seeking to add value where I could. I’ll highlight these in general categories below.

Command Staff

Fleet Commander - The majority of my time is spent consulting with Rapier on a variety of topics. I’d classify these into two key categories.

  • Tactical
  • Day-to-Day activities within the fleet
  • Member concerns
  • Awarding of Commendations of Loyalty (ask Rapier, these have evolved into custom meme’s remind him to take action)
  • Strategic
  • Projects for the various EHCS officers
  • Structure of EHCS and various units
  • Review/updates on strategic projects
  • e.g., Proposal for reforming the Hammer’s Fist

Internet Officer - Collaboration on site functionality development, beta and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for projects (TTT3 and the new TIE Corps site), as well as being a guinea pig for whatever Turtle needs a live body for.

Communication Officer - Proofreading and feedback on updated Code of Conduct (CoC) which were released earlier in the year.

Group Commanders

During the first 6 months of 2021 I coordinated a monthly Group Commander session between Rapier, Plif, and Montte to discuss strengths, opportunities, and needs that each GCO needed to continue to improve and support their group.

This provided an opportunity for direct feedback from Rapier with real-time decision making occurring to accelerate or redirect certain projects.

Emperor’s Hammer Dark Brotherhood

As you’re aware, Rapier has requested and received the resignation of Grand Master Montte and Deputy Grand Master Tygra.

As Rapier and I continued to discuss the state of the Emperor’s Hammer Dark Brotherhood and the distinguished competition it became clear that we did not have a “competing” product and, given the current scale of the EHDB, a structure that wasn’t designed to operate on its scale.

Rapier has requested I project manage the activities of a group of invested members and Rapier in designing a new structure for our Force Sensitive inclined role players. At this point we have a C-RAID and WBS in flight (I’ll let you google those project management terms) which will yield in early 2022 a project plan to begin designing and implementing the new order.

Next Steps

For me, this is the busiest time of year (I work for a company that manages insurance which goes live on 1/1/2022) so expect to see less of me as I focus on my real-life job and the holidays.

In terms of 2022 goals I’d summarize them as follows:

  • Successful deployment of the new EHDB experience
  • Coordinating a feedback session with Rapier and Plif based upon Pilf’s review and recommendations on managing large scale competitions (e.g., Imperial Storm and Raise the Flag)
  • Consultation with Turtle on new competition management portal and potential demo
  • Initial proposal review with Rapier and Marenta on the Hammer’s Fist

Please note, when dealing with strategic projects like the above things are fluid and priorities will shift as needed. The first two items I’d put as locked items for 2022 while the later two are in the storming phase.
